India has ordered companies across its oil and gas industry to submit detailed data on production, imports, stocks and consumption to a central government agency, according to a government notification issued late on Wednesday.
The order designates the Petroleum Planning and Analysis Cell (PPAC) as the body to collect and analyse the information, and requires firms including producers, refiners, importers and distributors to report data at regular intervals.
The order from the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas said the move aims to establish a centralised system to monitor the petroleum and natural gas supply chain more effectively in the “public interest”.
