Indian shares opened steady on Monday after posting their longest weekly winning streak of 2026, as investors weigh support from renewed US-Iran diplomacy against lingering geopolitical risks.
Nine of the 16 major sectors logged gains at the open. The broader small-caps and mid-caps were flat. Other Asian markets fell 0.4%, while Brent crude prices rose 0.6% on cautious sentiment following recent tensions in the Middle East.
After three weeks of successive gain, analysts expect consolidation phase to continue. However, with settlement of F&O contracts round the corner (on June 30), analysts expect the market to remain volatile.
Market participants will closely monitor Industrial Production (IIP) data, government fiscal deficit numbers, the final HSBC Manufacturing, Services and Composite PMI readings, and the latest foreign exchange reserves data for fresh insights into the health of the domestic economy.

July crude oil futures were trading at ₹6628 on Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) during the initial hour of trading on Monday against the previous close of ₹6577, up by 0.78 per cent, and August futures were trading at ₹6629 against the previous close of ₹6579, up by 0.76 per cent.

FPI debt flows hit 15-month high in June
Foreign portfolio Investor (FPI) inflows into government securities (G-Secs) under the fully accessible route (FAR) saw a sharp resurgence in June 2026, making it the best month of the calendar year so far.
FPIs invested around $2.2 billion in June (up to June 25), a substantial rise compared to $0.46 billion in May and weak or negative flows seen earlier in the year, including -$1.25 billion in March and -$0.01 billion in April. This surge has taken total FPI inflows via FAR to $3.81 billion in 2026 so far.
Notably, June accounted for nearly 58 per cent of the total FPI inflows via FAR in 2026, underlining the scale of the turnaround in investor sentiment. The June inflow is also the highest in the past 15 months, with the last comparable peak seen in March 2025, when FPIs invested $3.34 billion in a single month. Read more here

Domestic equity, currency and debt markets remain closed on Friday, June 26, for Muharram after benchmark indices ended Thursday with modest gains, completing their third consecutive week in the green. The BSE Sensex rose 109.25 points, or 0.14 per cent, to close at 77,100.47, while the Nifty 50 added 34.35 points, or 0.14 per cent, to settle at 24,056, supported by softer crude oil prices, a stronger rupee and improving sentiment around foreign portfolio inflows.
