The Nifty 50 closed at 24,175.70, up 0.71 per cent, while the Sensex gained 0.75 per cent to settle at 77,502. The Nifty IT index surged 4.64 per cent — its biggest single-session recovery in recent weeks — driven by short covering and value buying ahead of first-quarter earnings. The India VIX dropped over 7 per cent to 12.29, signalling easing near-term anxiety.

Stock Markets Today LIVE: Asian markets choppy as US jobs data douse Fed rate hike bets
Stocks made a mixed start to the Asian trading session on Friday after a lukewarm U.S. jobs report poured cold water on the prospect of an imminent rate hike from the Federal Reserve.
MSCI’s broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan fluctuated between gains and losses, edging up 0.1% after two consecutive days of declines.
South Korea’s Kospi weighed on the regional benchmark in sympathy with sharp falls in chipmakers in U.S. trading. S&P 500 e-mini futures and Nasdaq e-mini futures were both up 0.1%, while Japan’s Nikkei 225 was down 1%.
U.S. job growth slowed sharply in June and payroll gains for the prior two months were revised lower, according to data released on Thursday, pointing to a cooling labour market. The unemployment rate dropped to 4.2% last month from 4.3% in May as workers left the labour force, pushing the participation rate to the lowest level in more than five years. (Reuters)

- Gold rose on Friday and was headed for its first weekly gain in five, as investors dialled back expectations of Federal Reserve interest rate hikes following softer-than-expected U.S. jobs data.
- Spot gold was up 0.5% to $4,144.83 per ounce, as of 0052 GMT, rising to its highest level since June 23. U.S. gold futures for August delivery gained 0.8% to $4,157.50.

Bank of Baroda (BoB) reported a 15.46 per cent year-on-year (y-o-y) increase in global business (deposits plus advances from domestic and overseas operations) in the first quarter of FY27 to ₹30,51,218 crore as at June-end 2026.
The public sector bank’s domestic deposits increased by 14.74 per cent yoy to ₹13,81,822 crore as at June-end 2026. Domestic advances rose 16.14 per cent yoy to ₹11,51,383 crore, per the bank’s provisional business numbers. Read more here
