There is a need for integrating futuristic technologies in the cement production process to ensure sustainability and green production, according to Ajay Kapur, Managing Director, Ambuja Cements.
Speaking at the inaugural session of the `CII Green Cementech 2025: Driving Sustainability in the Cement Sector’ here on Thursday in his capacity as Chairman of the conference, he said going green/sustainable would actually mean competition which would lead to growth.
“To truly embed change, we must continue integrating futuristic technologies that transform how we produce, move, and think about cement. The path ahead is challenging, but filled with opportunity—and today, I feel more optimistic than ever about what we can build together,’‘ Kapur said.
S Sreekanth Reddy, Joint Managing Director, Sagar Cements said there was `immense’ potential for deep decarbonisation in the cement industry which could be driven by renewable energy, artificial intelligence, and digital innovations.
Most efficient
According to Raju Goyal, Co-Chairman of Green Cementech 2025 & Chief Technical & Chief Sustainability Officer, UltraTech Cement, the cement sector in India now stood as one of the `most efficient’ in the world delivering both economic and environmental value.
Shekhar Reddy, National Vice-Chairman, Indian Green Building Council (IGBC), said the momentum for green buildings was further driven by the increasing availability of certified green products and incentives that support sustainable choices across the building sector.
The two-day conference, the 21st edition of CII Green Cementech, is being organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), in partnership with the Cement Manufacturers Association (CMA).
India is the second-largest cement producer in the world. Recognising the sector’s energy-intensive nature and its environmental implications, CII Green Cementech 2025 aims to explore innovative strategies and initiatives to reduce the industry’s carbon footprint
