Amazon may move Prime Day to late June amid competition

The timing shift would place Prime Day in Amazon’s second-quarter financial results, which typically end on June 30. Last year, the event was extended from two to four days, generating $24.1 billion in online spending across U.S. retailers, up 30% from the previous year, according to Adobe Analytics.

Amazon.com is planning to
move its Prime Day sale event ‌up to late June, Bloomberg News
reported on Thursday, marking a rare shift in calendar for the
critical, decade-old shopping event.

Prime Day is marked by heavy ‌discounts on categories ranging
from apparel and electronics, and its summer ‌iteration coincides
with the back-to-school shopping season ‌with parents and
students waiting to cash in on the deals.
The timing shift would also move Prime Day sales to Amazon’s
second quarter, which typically ends ‌on June 30. The company
declined to comment to Reuters on the report.

Amazon’s Prime Day event has taken ‌place in July since its
launch in 2015, barring a change for two years during the
pandemic.
Last year, the event was extended to four days from the usual
two, and drove $24.1 ‌billion in online spending across U.S.
retailers, up 30% from a year ago, according to data from Adobe
Analytics.
However, Amazon has also had to contend with competing deals
events from retailers such ‌as Walmart and Target
as these companies invest in their digital order fulfillment and
same-day delivery capabilities.

Contribution to U.S. sales from e-commerce almost doubled
for Walmart in its most recently reported quarter, and the
company said customers using its ‌option for delivery under three
hours grew more than 60% for fiscal year 2026.

President Donald Trump said he did not think it would be “appropriate” for the Iranian soccer team to attend this year’s World Cup, co-hosted by the United States, and cited safety concerns as a reason on Thursday, while the countries are embroiled in a war.

“The Iran National Soccer Team is welcome to The World Cup,” Trump wrote on his social media site, “but I really don’t believe it is appropriate that they be there, for their own life and safety.” Iranian leaders said earlier this week that it’s “not possible” for the country to participate in the World Cup.

Trump’s message appears to depart somewhat from what the Republican president relayed Tuesday at the White House to FIFA President Gianni Infantino, who later publicly said that Trump assured him the Iranian players and coaches would be welcome.

Private talks confirmed participation assurances

A White House official, who insisted on anonymity to discuss private conversations, had confirmed Trump’s message to Infantino about Iran’s participation.

On Thursday, the White House did not immediately clarify what Trump meant by “their own life and safety,” such as whether he anticipated threats against them while in the United States after U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran that began Feb. 28.

Iran scheduled matches in US cities

Iran, one of 48 teams in the tournament, is scheduled to play in Inglewood, California, against New Zealand on June 15 and Belgium on June 21 before finishing group play in Seattle against Egypt on June 26. The U.S. is hosting the tournament with Canada and Mexico from June 11 to July 19.

Travel ban exemptions for athletes applied

Since June, Iran has been subject to a travel ban into the U.S. as part of the Trump administration’s immigration crackdown. But athletes and coaches from the target nations are exempt, which means the Iranian team would be allowed to enter the U.S.

मुंबई में आयोजित “Swabhimaan: The Rise of S.H.E.”

Dubai traders offer gold at an ounce discount to London benchmark prices

Dubai traders offer gold at $30 an ounce discount to London benchmark prices

Gold prices in Dubai are currently trading at $30 an ounce discount to the London benchmark prices due to weak demand after the raging Iran war in the West Asian countries crippled flight services.

Tourists and bullion dealers from India and China are the major buyers of gold from Dubai. Tourist arrivals have come to a standstill with the cancellation of flights from both the countries.

Supply chain pressure

Rajesh Rokde, Chairman, All India Gem and Jewellery Domestic Council, said traders in Dubai are selling gold at about $30 per ounce below the London benchmark price, largely due to disruptions in shipments caused by the ongoing West Asia conflict.

It is important for Indian jewellers and consumers to understand that gold prices globally remain high, and no country can afford to slash prices without destabilising the market, he said.

The current discount reflects supply chain pressures rather than a fundamental change in value, he said.

Prithviraj Kothari, President, India Bullion and Jewellers Association, said gold trading at a discount in Dubai reflects temporary logistical disruptions rather than a structural change in demand.

Buyers turn cautious

Flight cancellations across West Asia have slowed the movement of bullion, leaving excess supply in the local market and pushing prices to a $25–30 per ounce discount to London, he said.

At the same time, elevated price volatility and uncertainty around the duration of the conflict have kept buyers cautious, leading to weaker physical demand in key markets such as India and the Gulf, he added.

If transport routes normalise, these discounts are likely to narrow quickly as Dubai resumes its role as a key distribution hub for bullion flows to Asia and Europe, said Kothari.

Meanwhile, gold prices in India was up marginally at ₹160,303 per 10 grams against ₹160,230 on Thursday as rupee depreciated against dollar, according to the Indian Bullion and Jewellers Association of India data. In the global market, gold declined by about $60 an ounce to $5,118 on Thursday. April futures on COMEX slid to $5,123.14. On MCX, April gold futures quoted at ₹1,60,892 per 10 gm.
