Oracle bets big on multi-cloud offerings for Indian govt, public sector

As the Indian government doubles down on modernising its infrastructure in the digital era, on Thursday said its multi-Cloud offerings, which are fresh out of the oven, can help the public sector and state governments move to the cloud faster and in an efficient manner.

has two multi-Cloud offerings, one is the database service for Microsoft Azure and the other one is ‘One MySQL’ database service for Amazon Web Services (AWS), which have generated great traction among the private sector.

According to Prasad Rai, Vice President of Global Strategic Clients Group at India, there is a great demand on the multi-Cloud offerings among the government stakeholders as well.

“Multi-cloud makes a lot of sense for them as the governments and the public sector have invested in various different technologies. When they move those to the cloud, they will not have to go through the trouble of entirely rewriting it for the cloud. Their first move to the cloud will be in a multi-cloud environment,” Rai told IANS.

Oracle, which has had several public sector and state governments in as its customer for years, is now in a position to help them move their workloads in a much more efficient way with its multi-cloud solutions.

Users can now migrate or build new applications on Azure and then connect to high-performance and high-availability managed Oracle Database services such as Autonomous Database running on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI).

On the other hand, ‘MySQL HeatWave’ database service can help AWS users run transaction processing, analytics, and machine learning workloads in one service, without requiring time-consuming processes and duplication between separate databases.

According to Rai, he sees great opportunities for multi-cloud adoption among the government sector. However, the initial uptake will be in the private sector, especially in the verticals like banking and telecom which is gearing up for 5G.

“We have dedicated teams that address the demand in the Indian public sector. They are working closely with the central and state governments as there is a surge in demand for cloud offerings,” he told IANS.

The state governments want to make sure that they tick off all the right boxes in terms of data security as well as on meeting the necessary requirements and laws of the land.

“Both our data centres In are certified by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY). The government and the public sector companies have been our customers for many years. Our multi-Cloud offerings are a great opportunity for them to jumpstart their journey to the cloud,” Rai emphasised.

The MeitY-empanelled Oracle cloud regions, in Mumbai and Hyderabad, are currently running at full capacity. As a result, the company has doubled its cloud customer base in the country the past few years.

Oracle’s business saw a tremendous growth in the first quarter of FY23, with the Oracle Cloud Unit (OCI) clocking over 100 per cent growth (year-on-year) for the third year in a row.

In India, the OCI is growing at 25 per cent quarter on quarter (QoQ) and the company has clocked double-digit growth across all lines of businesses, in some even triple digit.

The company aims to be the preferred cloud provider for the Indian organisations, both in the private and public sectors.

New Oracle customers are HDFC Life, Federal Bank, NSE, Cognizant, Manappuram Comptech and Consultants Limited, SBI, Polycab, Forbes Marshall Pvt Ltd and Tensor, etc.

Microsoft brings file explorer tabs, taskbar tweaks in Windows 11 update

Microsoft brings file explorer tabs, taskbar tweaks in Windows 11 update

American multinational technology corporation has released yet another update for its Windows 11 OS, bringing in a plethora of new features.

According to GSM Arena, some of these features were promised by and others were requested by users, such as quick access to the Task Manager by right-clicking on the Taskbar.

The addition of tabs in Windows’ default File Explorer is possibly the biggest change. Just like in a modern web browser, users can open different file directories all at once, shown in tabs. There’s even an option to pin those that are used the most.

The deeper OneDrive integration lets users track changes and comments across shared files with colleagues, for example, and Windows 11 can now suggest commonly used actions and contacts to share files with, reported GSM Arena.

Additionally, the system can recognize future dates so users can click and add an event to their Calendar or various types of texts such as phone numbers, emails, etc. Windows will highlight that text and allow users to call using Phone Link, Teams, or Skype.

As per GSM Arena, the Taskbar Overflow function is not new for Windows in general, but it’s a welcome addition to Windows 11 in particular. Users can now add more apps to the Taskbar and an “overflow” button will let you see all remaining pinned apps.

File sharing to other devices and apps is now easier even if the files are on local storage or even the desktop.

Meanwhile, the Photos app awaits a big update as plans to introduce a better gallery with simplified browsing, location sorting, and management. Deeper integration for easier OneDrive backup is also on the menu.

This update is seemingly available for those who chose the optional non-security preview release, while a wider rollout is expected next month along with the security update, as per GSM Arena.

Apple’s iPhone 14 Plus likely suffering from production cuts: Report

Apple’s iPhone 14 Plus likely suffering from production cuts: Report

After only two weeks in the market, has reportedly cut production of the 14 Plus.

Two supply chain sources suggest that is cutting production of the 14 Plus, citing The Information, AppleInsider reported.

One source stated that at least one of the manufacturers in China was told to halt production of 14 Plus components while its procurement team re-evaluates demand for the product, the report said.

Also, two downstream suppliers in China that assemble parts into larger modules are cutting their production by 70 per cent and 90 per cent, respectively, it added.

The other source said asked at least one manufacturer to increase production of iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max parts, but not equal to the reduction in iPhone 14 Plus parts.

The second source also stated that despite changes in production orders, Apple is still expected to include a Plus model in its “iPhone 15” lineup in 2023.

However, Apple’s iPhone supply chain is large and complex, so viewpoints from a single source or manufacturer may not reflect the bigger picture — and Apple CEO Tim Cook is on record saying the same thing, as per the report.

The same concept applies to sub-assembly manufacturers like camera assemblers. Apple’s supply chain inventory may fill up as supply catches up with demand.

Meanwhile, a recent report said that iPhone 14 Plus is garnering low traction.

The report from DigiTimes claimed that sales of the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus are considerably overshadowed by an “enthusiastic” response to the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max.
