Bug in AirPods Pro 2, Apple warns users to ‘replace battery soon’

Bug in AirPods Pro 2, Apple warns users to ‘replace battery soon’

Some second-generation AirPods Pro users are receiving a bug alert telling them to “replace” their battery soon, media reports say.

When the AirPods Pro earbuds or MagSafe Charging Case battery is low, the bug appears to cause battery replacement notifications to be sent from the Find My app to adjacent devices, reports MacRumors.

As per the report, it appears likely that the notice relates to these new capabilities because the second-generation AirPods Pro has improved Find My ability because of a U1 chip for Precision Finding and continuously transmits their battery levels.

The notifications urge the user to “replace the battery on… soon,” even though it is not possible to replace AirPods batteries and the device simply needs to be recharged.

Users experiencing the bug may not be immediately aware that it relates to their aCEAirPods ProaCE, since the item is referred to in notifications as simply “left”, “right”, or “Case”, leading to somewhat incoherent alerts, the report said.

It also mentioned that the notifications seem similar to that used for the AirTag when its CR2032 battery is almost depleted and needs to be replaced. Hence, it seems that the system is conflating the two products.

One theory suggests that Apple used much of the AirTag’s firmware for the MagSafe Charging Case, causing identical alerts even where they do not make sense.

Manipur inducts 12 GPS-enabled patrol vehicles for highway security

Manipur inducts 12 GPS-enabled patrol vehicles for highway security

The government on Tuesday inducted 12 GPS-enabled highway patrol vehicles for the state’s five hill districts to ensure smooth and incident-free movements of all vehicles, and to respond speedily to any eventuality.

Officials said that earlier in Phase-1 and Phase-2, 15 GPS-enabled highway patrol vehicles were introduced in different hill districts, and as their location could be tracked from the police headquarters in capital Imphal, prompt action could be taken as and when necessary.

After flagging off the vehicles, Chief Minister N. Biren Singh tweeted: “To further enhance security and safety on our highways, 12 more GPS-enabled vehicles for Highway Patrol, Phase-III were flagged off from my secretariat today. The state govt has been taking up these security measures to ensure advancement in trade and tourism in .”

After flagging off the vehicles, he said that the GPS-enabled highway patrol vehicles are launched to enable quick response from police to any incident that takes place along the national highways in the state.

He said that the vehicles could accommodate a minimum of 10 police personnel and the patrol teams would help to stop threatening and extortion of truck and bus drivers along the national highways.

The Chief Minister said that the law and order of the state had significantly improved with the tireless service by the police and other security forces and the support and cooperation of the public. As such, there is now no need for security convoys for the transportation of oil tankers and other goods-laden vehicles in the state, he said.

Clear brings solutions to pre-validate data before tax returns are filed

Clear brings solutions to pre-validate data before tax returns are filed

With enterprises struggling to file their direct returns, particularly deducted at source, Clear (formerly ClearTax) has come out with online cloud based SaaS solutions that can pre-validate data, file returns and generate certificates online.

Clear is the only SaaS platform that can handle enterprise level scale reliably. It can generate three million FVU files in 30 minutes. It has also automated bulk PAN verification, aadhaar linking verification, Lower Deduction Certificate (LDC) consumption sync, challan consumption sync, and challan verifications.

Enterprises are increasingly finding it cumbersome to comply with direct procedures introduced in recent years. For instance in a survey, done by Clear, a large manufacturer of luxury vehicles received demands worth Rs five crore over three years due to incorrect deductions.

Similarly a large B2B commerce company had Rs two crore unutilised in challans for a financial year which means loss of working capital, the survey found.

The problems particularly related to tax deducted at source (TDS).

Archit Gupta, founder and CEO, Clear, said the government is using increasingly as a mechanism to ensure the people file their on time. It is monitoring those receiving payments, but not paying taxes and has come out with a bunch of mechanisms to address this issue. The burden of TDS compliance has become more complex and it is no longer possible for enterprises to work with solutions that are not tech-oriented, he said.

Some provisions on TDS were added in the past. For instance, section 206 AA says that if anybody fails to furnish his PAN to the person making payment to him, he will suffer a higher TDS.

Section 206 AB says the payer has to deduct TDS at higher rates than usual when making payments to those who have not filed their income tax return in the last year.

“And it is not that you can take declaration from them but you have to have the capability to self check whether they have complied. Now you may have a number of vendors and transporters. You have to make sure that they have filed their income . It was made effective from 2021-22,” Gupta said.

Similarly, there is the section 194 Q which asks purchasers to deduct TDS from sellers whose turnover was more than Rs 10 crore in the previous year on the purchase of goods above Rs 50 lakh in the current financial year.

Then there is section 194R which asks the resident Indian to deduct 10 per cent tax at source on the value of any benefit or perquisite received.

Even enterprises have the form 26AS. So enterprises reconcile their TDS with their form 26AS.

This is a humongous exercise, Gupta said, adding that Clear’s new product will help enterprises address these difficulties.

WhatsApp tests screenshot blocking for disappearing media: Details here

Meta-owned is testing a new feature to block screenshots for disappearing media. Released in August 2021, the disappearing media feature allowed the instant messaging platform’s users to view a video or an image only once. However, users found a way to bypass this safety feature by taking a screenshot. In August 2022, Meta chief executive announced that the company will soon introduce a screenshot blocking feature for self-destructing media.

After the new update, according to WABetaInfo, when a user tries to take a screenshot of a self-destructing image, a toast appears reading, “Can’t take screenshot due to security policy”.

Using a third-party application will also reportedly not work to take a screenshot. If a user uses any such app to take a screenshot, a black screenshot will be saved in their ‘Gallery’.

However, unlike Snapchat, will not notify the sender of the media that the viewer tried to take a screenshot.

has rolled out the new feature to selected Android testers running v2.22.22.3 or newer. A wider beta test is expected to be conducted in the coming weeks before the feature is rolled out to the public.

“WhatsApp beta for Android 2.22.22.3 is marked as a compatible update but some users may also be able to get the same feature after installing the previous beta build,” WABetaInfo’s website said.

However, even with the new changes, the recipient may still take a photo by using a secondary mobile device

Also, the viewer can take screenshots of conversations even if they contain some disappearing messages since the new feature is only limited to view once images and videos.
