Realme 13 5G series smartphones launched in India: Check price, specs, more

China’s Realme has launched the Realme 13 series in India, which includes the Realme 13 5G and Realme 13 Plus 5G smartphones. The Realme 13 Plus is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 7300 Energy, while the base model is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 6300. Both the models are offered in 128GB and 256GB on-board storage option, paired with up to 12GB RAM on the Plus model and 8GB RAM on baseline model.

Realme 13 series: Availability


Both Realme 13 and Realme 13 Plus smartphones are now available for pre-booking on Realme’s official website and mainline channels. The smartphones will go on sale starting September 6 at Realme online store, e-commerce platform Flipkart, and at select retail stores.


Introductory offers


Customers purchasing the Realme 13 Plus smartphone can get cashback up to Rs 1,500 on select bank cards. Similarly, a Rs 1,000 cashback is applicable on purchasing the Realme 13. Customers pre-booking the smartphone will receive six-month screen damage protection at no additional cost.

The Realme 13 Plus is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 7300 Energy chip and features up to 12GB of RAM. Realme stated that users can extend this with an additional 26GB through Dynamic RAM technology, which uses a portion of the smartphone’s storage as temporary RAM. Additionally, the smartphone includes a GT Mode for gaming, enabling games to run at 90 frames per second. The Plus model is equipped with a Sony LYT-600 camera sensor along with artificial intelligence-powered image processing capabilities.

Google is reportedly rolling out new Gemini AI assistant features on Android smartphones that allow users to ask Gemini questions related to what’s on their display. Additionally, Gemini is gaining the ability to offer YouTube video summaries and respond to queries related to specific YouTube videos. These features have been available on the latest Pixel 9 series smartphones; however, it seems they are now rolling out to other Android smartphones as well.


Gemini AI’s “Ask about this screen”: How it works


Once the feature is available on your smartphone, open the floating window for the Gemini AI assistant by long pressing the power button. You will see a new “Ask about this screen” floating button on top of the Gemini window. Tapping on the button takes a screenshot of what is on the screen and shares it with Gemini AI.


Once the screenshot is taken, you can ask Gemini questions about objects on your screen. However, it should be noted that since Gemini uses the screenshot to gather display information, it cannot answer questions about the entire page. For example, if you open a news article in a browser and ask Gemini about what is on the display, it will only have access to the information captured in the screenshot, not the entire web page. The feature also does not allow you to capture an extended screenshot.


Gemini AI’s “Ask about this video”: How it works


Similar to the “Ask about this screen” option, Gemini offers an “Ask about this video” option when playing select YouTube videos. The option appears on YouTube videos that have captions, although it works even if captions are not enabled for the video.


Once you select the “Ask about this video” option, Gemini AI can summarise the video for you or answer specific questions about its content. Since the feature works with captioned videos, the visuals in the video are not analysed.

Imagine this: Frequent clashes with colleagues, a work environment hotter than a pressure cooker, up to 10 meetings a day, seven-day workweek, and office hours that stretch into the wee hours, sometimes as late as 2 am. Welcome to Nvidia’s office in Santa Clara, California – the stuff of nightmares for any working professional.


One would think that employees would be making a beeline for the exit, fleeing to other organisations to escape such an intense atmosphere. But here’s the twist: Nvidia’s attrition rate is surprisingly low.


Nvidia’s golden handcuffs

 


So, what’s keeping them glued to their desks? An ex-employee hits the nail on the head with a simple yet telling phrase: “golden handcuffs”. According to a Bloomberg report, Nvidia’s employees are paid rather handsomely. And as if that weren’t enough, they’re also showered with company stocks.

 


The stress may be intense, but the lure of a hefty payday keeps employees chained to their workstations, in those “golden handcuffs”.

 


In fact, those who’ve stuck around long enough to amass Nvidia stocks have found themselves in quite the enviable position. Thanks to the company’s meteoric rise, with its stock price soaring by over 3,700 per cent since 2019, long-term employees have become millionaires.


Nvidia’s wealth and work


The company’s generosity with pay packages is evident even in the car park, where the spaces are filled with Porsches, Lamborghinis, and other high-end vehicles. Flush with cash, Nvidia employees are splurging on luxury cars, vacation homes, and tickets to premium events, says the report. Despite the gruelling work environment, the promise of substantial financial rewards keeps them tethered to their roles.


Under the helm of co-founder and CEO Jensen Huang, Nvidia’s philosophy is crystal clear: “If you want to do extraordinary things, it shouldn’t be easy”. And with the company’s recent dominance in the semiconductor market, particularly as the demand for AI technology skyrockets, it seems Huang’s approach is paying off.

Google introduced a new capability for its gesture-driven “Circle to Search” feature, allowing users to highlight a section of an image, at the Made by Google event in August. This feature has now started rolling out. With this update, users can quickly send what they have circled, similar to a screenshot, to others.


Upon activating Circle to Search, a “Share” button will appear above the selection, bringing up Android’s system share sheet. This enables users to quickly share what they have circled without saving it locally to their device. The share sheet offers options to upload to Google Photos or save to Google Keep. While this feature works well for larger images, downloading is recommended for smaller images due to resolution limitations.


What is Circle to Search


The Circle to Search feature allows users to perform searches directly from their screen. Initially launched on the Samsung Galaxy S24, it is now available on select Google Pixel devices. Google is also working on enhancing this feature by incorporating an on-screen barcode and QR code scanner. Currently in testing, this enhancement is expected to be rolled out more widely soon.


The new feature was announced by Google in a blog post earlier this month, alongside Gemini Live. Reports of Google testing the functionality for quickly sharing screenshot-like images first surfaced in April this year. The latest feature is now rolling out on compatible Samsung and Pixel devices as a server-side update.


Samsung recently announced that Google’s Circle to Search function is now being extended to more Samsung Galaxy devices. The latest recipients of this gesture-driven search feature include the Galaxy Tab S9 FE, Galaxy Tab S9 FE Plus, and select Galaxy A-series devices.

Apple has reportedly made several changes to the Mac App Store for the latest macOS Sequoia beta version, allowing users to install large apps directly on external storage.


According to a report by 9To5Mac, the latest macOS 15.1 developer beta 3 lets users install apps larger than 1GB on an external disk of their choice.


The report indicates that the latest developer beta of macOS Sequoia includes a new option within App Store settings that, when enabled, automatically downloads apps greater than 1GB to a connected external storage device such as a hard disk drive (HDD) or solid-state drive (SSD). However, smaller apps will still be installed on the Mac’s internal storage.


This is not the only change Apple is making to the Mac App Store with macOS Sequoia. With the previous beta version of the latest operating system for Macs, Apple lowered the storage space requirement for installing an app.


In the release notes for macOS Sequoia 15 Beta 8, Apple stated, “the App Store no longer needs twice the space free for an initial app download and install. The free space requirement will now be the final install size of the app, plus a small buffer.”


Previously, to install an app with a file size of 1GB, users needed at least 2GB of free space on their Macs. However, with macOS Sequoia, the storage requirement for the same will be significantly lower.


macOS Sequoia is expected to roll out with iOS 18 in September. Like the iPhone platform update, Apple has separated the macOS Sequoia beta cycle for version 15 and 15.1. macOS Sequoia version 15 is set to debut in September and the version 15.1 on later dates.

Lenovo-owned smartphone brand Motorola has scheduled the launch of its affordable flip-style foldable smartphone, the Razr 50, in India for September 9. In a post on social media platform X, Motorola India said that the Razr 50 will be available on its official website and on e-commerce platform Amazon India. Announced in June alongside the Razr 50 Ultra, which was launched in India in July, the Razr 50 is a 2024 flip-style foldable with a large cover display and IPX8 rating for water resistance.


Motorola Razr 50: Details


According to the product listing page on Amazon India, the Motorola Razr 50 will sport a 3.6-inch pOLED cover display, which the company claims is the largest in its segment. The cover display will offer up to 1700 nits of peak brightness and will be protected by Corning Gorilla Glass. The smartphone will also feature a vegan leather finish at the back, similar to the Ultra model.


Motorola has focused on optimising the cover display to enhance its functionality. The company stated that users will be able to access Google’s Gemini AI on the cover display. Additionally, Google Photos support has been added for the cover screen, allowing users to open and view images from their gallery without flipping open the phone.
