Samsung is reportedly halting the shipment of its newly launched Galaxy Buds 3 Pro wireless earphones. According to a report by Android Authority, Samsung has confirmed that it is temporarily suspending deliveries of the Buds 3 Pro to distribution channels. This comes after a few early users of the new Galaxy Buds 3 Pro alleged that the included silicone eartips are being easily torn when trying to remove them from the buds.

Samsung in its statement to Android Authority said, “To ensure all products meet our quality standards, we have temporarily suspended deliveries of Galaxy Buds 3 Pro devices to distribution channels to conduct a full quality control evaluation before shipments to consumers take place. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.” The company further stated that if any customer is already in possession of the Galaxy Buds 3 Pro and is experiencing any issues, “they should contact or visit their nearest Samsung Service Centre.”

Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro 3 along with the standard Galaxy Buds 3 and other ecosystem devices such as the Galaxy Watch 7 and Galaxy Watch Ultra are set to go on sale in India from August 24. The company has not officially offered details about the revised availability of the Buds Pro 3 in India.

Samsung Galaxy Buds 3 Pro: Quality issue

Samsung has completely overhauled the design of Galaxy Buds with the third-generation model, featuring an Apple AirPods-like stem design and a new case. According to reports, some early users of the Galaxy Buds 3 Pro model have encountered quality issues with the device.

According to a report by The Verge, Samsung has used a hard plastic ring on the soft silicone eartips to attach it to the buds. However, when trying to remove the eartips for finding the right size or for cleaning, some users have found that the silicone can get ripped away from the attachment ring, leaving the plastic section attached to the buds.

Samsung on its website in its home country South Korea has also posted a guideline for removing and replacing the eartips on the Galaxy Buds 3 Pro. Samsung on its website in South Korea recommends against using fingernails for removing the eartips as it “may tear.” The company also stated that the user should not press hard or twist the eartips but rather, flip the eartips and pull it away from the buds slowly to separate it.

Airlines operations return to normal after systems restored from IT outage

Airlines operations across airports, which were impacted due to a global IT outage on Friday, returned to normalcy on Saturday with all services from ticket bookings to reservations and issuing of boarding passes going back completely to the online mode, sources said.

Earlier in the day, Union Minister for Civil Aviation K Ram Mohan Naidu said that the airline systems have started working normally, and all issues were likely to be resolved by noon on Saturday.

All operations are back to normal. All our services including bookings and reservations are online since Friday late evening, said an airline executive.

System is restored and there is no disruption in our services. It is getting back to normalcy, said a senior executive from a budget airline.

Nevertheless, as many as six to eight flights in the domestic sector were cancelled at Chennai Airport on Saturday, airport authorities said.

“About six flights in the domestic sector, including those airlines operating in Coimbatore, Kolkata, Kochi, Pune were cancelled by some airlines on Saturday. On the international route, there were no cancellations and some airlines reported a delay in the departure and arrival,” an official said.

On Friday, in one of the biggest-ever IT outages, an update of a product offered by global cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike triggered problems with Microsoft’s Windows across the planet, hitting operations at financial sector companies and airlines while hospital operations got postponed and some television channels went off air.

Airports across the country witnessed chaotic scenes after the online passenger booking, reservation and boarding systems turned to manual mode due to the outage, resulting in higher passenger handling processing time and consequently hundreds of flights were delayed and many cancelled.

“Since 3 AM (Saturday), airline systems across airports have started working normally. Flight operations are going smoothly now,” Naidu said in a statement.

There is a backlog because of disruptions on Friday, and it is getting cleared gradually, the minister said and added that the ministry was constantly monitoring the operations at airports and airlines to ensure travel readjustments and refunds are taken care of.

Air India said its own, resilient IT infrastructure remained unaffected on Friday and continues to function as normal.

We confirm that none of Air India flights on 19 July was cancelled on account of the worldwide outage of travel systems, though there were some delays due to the impact of the outage on airport services.

The reservation and check-in systems of most of the airlines, including IndiGo, SpiceJet, Akasa and Air India Express, are now operational, sources had said earlier in the day. “I am going to Ahmedabad. Online printing (Digi Yatra) is convenient, which wasn’t happening yesterday. Everything’s fine today. Flights are on time. What happened yesterday was a network issue. No one can do anything about that,” said a passenger at Delhi Airport.

“The global outage that led to operational difficulties is nearly resolved, and our teams have made significant progress in restoring normal operations. However, customers may still experience delays and schedule disruptions over the weekend,” budget carrier IndiGo said.

IndiGo, the largest airline by domestic market share, operating over 2,000 daily flights, had to cancel around 200 flights due to the Microsoft outage issue.

Two other carriers SpiceJet and Akasa Air said late Friday evening that all their systems at airports, including ticket bookings, were up and running.

SpiceJet said that “all its systems at airports, ticket bookings and call centres are up and running smoothly after a successful resolution of a Microsoft outage that impacted the aviation industry all through the day”.

“While the global systems downtime of reservations, check-in and boarding systems posed an unprecedented operational challenge to our ground services team, Akasa Air confirms that all its scheduled flights on Friday operated with minimum disruptions and nil cancellations,” the airline said.

The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has flagged the Indian cyber security agencies about instances of some “inappropriate content” popping up on social media platform X on Wednesday when its abbreviated name was searched on the platform.

Official sources said the search results on the popular platform pertain to sexually explicit images and links.

“CRPF has noticed that social media users may come across some inappropriate content while searching for CRPF keyword on social media platform X. CRPF has raised the issue with relevant authorities and is working to resolve the same,” the force said on its official X handle.

A source told PTI that the “inappropriate content” was being noticed when the abbreviated version of the force is searched on X (formerly Twitter).

Bombay HC tells social media cos to take action against deepfakes of NSE MD

Bombay HC tells social media cos to take action against deepfakes of NSE MD

The NSE in its plea said that in April this year, it had also filed a complaint with the cyber police.| Representative Image

The Bombay High Court has directed social media intermediaries to take prompt action against alleged deepfake videos of NSE’s managing director and chief executive officer giving stock recommendations.

A single bench of Justice R I Chagla in the order of July 16 also directed social media platforms like Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram and Telegram to remove or delete all accounts infringing upon the trademark of NSE (National Stock Exchange of India Limited).

The balance of convenience also lies in favour of the Plaintiff (NSE) and irreparable loss and/or harm will be caused to the Plaintiff, unless the ad-interim (temporary) relief sought for is granted, the HC said.

The bench directed the social media platforms to remove or delete the content within ten hours upon receiving a complaint against such morphed videos and profiles where the plaintiff’s trademark is infringed.

The court said social media firms are mandated by the Information Technology Rules to take prompt action on the complaints of entities like NSE about unauthorised use of their trademark on dubious web pages and/or profiles, accounts and/or advertisement and/or videos and/or contents and/or social media groups.

The NSE had moved HC claiming that the platforms featured a fabricated video of its managing director (MD) and chief executive officer (CEO) Ashishkumar Chauhan doling out investment and stock tips. The video was allegedly generated using sophisticated AI (artificial intelligence) technology to imitate his voice and facial expressions.

The NSE sought an order directing the paltforms to take down and remove the unauthorised videos.

The NSE further claimed that some perpetrators have allegedly used its trademark and circulated false and misleading advertisements on social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp.

The NSE in its plea said that in April this year, it had also filed a complaint with the cyber police.

Senior counsel Birendra Saraf, appearing for the NSE, told the court that despite complaining to the grievance cell of the social media intermediaries no action has been taken against such deepfake videos and those infringing upon the trademark.

This deceptive behaviour of the violators is capable of manipulating the markets and thereby resulting in unfair trade practices as well as breach of various regulations of market regulator SEBI (Security Exchange Board of India) enacted from time to time, Saraf argued.

Justice Chagla said NSE had made out a strong prima facie case for grant of ad-interim relief sought not only against the intermediaries but also against the unknown perpetrators for infringing its rights.

The HC has restrained any persons from infringing the plaintiff’s registered trademark NSE.

The court directed the intermediaries to file their affidavits giving details of all those accounts and the persons handling those accounts involved in publishing the fake videos and content similar to fake videos or using the stock exchange’s registered trademark NSE.

The affidavits shall be filed within three weeks, the court said and posted the matter for further hearing on August 19.

The court in its order noted that in the alleged deepfake videos, the NSE’s MD and CEO can be seen recommending viewers to join a WhatsApp community where the company would allegedly recommend stock picks.

The videos further assure full reimbursement by the plaintiff of the losses caused to investors executing the suggested trades with diligence, the bench noted.
