China’s Lenovo-owned Motorola is set to launch its affordable flip-style foldable smartphone, the Razr 50, in India soon. Unveiled in June as part of the Razr 50 series, the baseline model did not initially launch in India alongside the Ultra model, which was released on July 4. However, the more affordable Razr 50 is now expected to arrive in India shortly.


Motorola Razr 50: Details


The Razr 50 features a large 3.6-inch FullHD pOLED cover display with a 90Hz refresh rate. The main display is a 6.9-inch FHD+ pOLED foldable panel with a 120Hz refresh rate and 3000 nits of peak brightness. The smartphone is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 7300X chip and offers up to 12GB RAM and 512GB of on-board storage.


For imaging, the device includes a 50-megapixel primary camera and a 13-megapixel ultra-wide angle lens. The front-facing camera is the same 32MP shooter found in the Ultra model. The Razr 50 is equipped with a 4,200mAh battery and supports both wired and wireless charging at 30W and 15W, respectively.

Samsung is reportedly developing a “slim” version of its Galaxy Z Fold 6 foldable smartphone, which is expected to feature a titanium body, similar to the flagship Galaxy S24 Ultra. According to a report by Android Authority, citing Korea’s The Elec, Samsung is considering using a titanium backplate instead of stainless steel for this new variant of its latest book-style foldable.


The report indicates that Samsung’s parts suppliers have informed the South Korean media outlet that the company is currently deliberating whether to use stainless steel or titanium for the backplate of the anticipated Galaxy Z Fold 6 Slim variant. If Samsung opts for a titanium casing, it will be the first foldable smartphone from the company to feature this material. Previously, Samsung has used either stainless steel or carbon fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP) in its Galaxy Z Fold series.


In addition to the material details, the report suggests that Samsung could launch the slim variant in the fourth quarter of 2024.


Earlier reports have indicated that the Galaxy Z Fold 6 Slim might be available only in select regions. It is anticipated that the variant will be launched in South Korea and could be rebranded as the Samsung Galaxy W25 in China.


Samsung is likely developing a slimmer and lighter version of the Galaxy Z Fold 6 to compete with Chinese brands such as Vivo, HONOR, and OPPO, which have significantly reduced the thickness of their foldable smartphones. For comparison, the HONOR Magic V3, set to make its global debut next month, measures 9.2mm in the folded state, whereas the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 measures 12.1mm. Vivo’s X Fold 3 Pro is also slimmer, at 11.2mm in the folded state.

For imaging, the iQOO Z9s will sport a dual-camera setup with a 50-megapixel Sony IMX882 with optical image stabilization (OIS) primary camera and a 2MP depth sensor. It will support 4K video recording with stabilisation enabled by OIS.


The iQOO Z9s Pro, on the other hand, will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chipset, a 5500mAh battery, and support 80W fast charging. It will also feature a 120Hz 3D curved display of a peak brightness of 450 nits and is IP64-rated for dust and water resistance. The camera setup will include a 50MP Sony IMX882 OIS sensor and an 8MP ultra-wide camera. It will also support 4K video recording with OIS.


Both smartphones will run on Funtouch OS 14, based on Android 14, and will include AI-driven features such as AI Erase and AI Photo Enhance.

China’s OPPO has launched the F27 5G smartphone in India. The OPPO F27 5G features a circular camera module at the rear, flanked by dynamic Halo LED lights that pulsate to the beat of music. Additionally, the smartphone includes OPPO’s suite of artificial intelligence features, such as image editing tools and generative AI capabilities for text generation and summarisation.

The OPPO F27 5G features a circular camera module at the back, similar to the OPPO F27 Pro Plus, but with a dynamic Halo Light LED setup that syncs and pulsates with music. The Halo Light can also be customised to notify users of messages and updates.


The smartphone has a sleek and lightweight design, measuring 7.69mm thick and weighing 187g. It features OPPO’s Armour Body protection, which uses a high-strength alloy framework to protect internal components. The device also has an IP64 rating for dust and water resistance.

The OPPO F27 includes the Google Gemini-powered AI Toolbox, initially launched with the Reno 12 series. Apple has released iOS 18 developer beta 7 along with public beta 5 for eligible iPhone models as it approaches the launch of the iPhone 16 series. The new operating system for iPhones is reportedly nearing completion. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman in his post on X wrote that the new betas might be the final version, apart from minor changes that Apple may introduce for the upcoming iPhone series.


In a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Gurman stated: “The latest iOS 18 seed, I’m told, is final other than features tied to the new hardware.”


While Apple has not specified what’s new with iOS 18 developer beta 7, the public beta 5 mainly focuses on bug fixes and performance improvements. This is typical as an operating system nears the end of its beta cycle and approaches its stable public release. Apple is expected to host the launch event for the new iPhone 16 series around the second week of September, and the company will likely announce the public rollout schedule for iOS 18 there.


The last iOS 18 beta to bring notable changes was developer beta 5, while the sixth version also focused on performance improvements. The iOS 18 developer beta 5, released earlier this month, introduced new features such as:


Distraction Control in Safari: This feature allows users to selectively block content on web pages, such as sign-in pop-ups and overlays.


Photos App Changes: Apple removed the carousel view introduced with the new operating system. The carousel view allowed users to swipe and view picture highlights updated daily. The “All Photos” section was also improved to accommodate more pictures on the grid at once.


Redesigned Icons: New dark mode icons were introduced for the Maps and Find My apps. Several Control Center icons, including those for cellular data and screen mirroring, were also tweaked.


Stolen Device Protection: Developer beta 5 made Stolen Device Protection accessible from both “Privacy and Security” and “Face ID and Passcode” menus in the Settings app.

The budget smartphone is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 6s Gen 3 chipset and boasts a 5,000mAh battery. The Moto g45 5G is priced at Rs 9,999, including all offers. It will be available for purchase on company’s official website, Flipkart, and select retail stores from August 28.
