Meta has updated the way it labels artificial intelligence manipulated content on its platform such as Instagram and Facebook. The US-based social media giant said that it is updating the “Made with AI” label to “AI info” across its apps. Unlike the static label, the AI info badge will be clickable and offer information about the content for more context.

Apple is planning to introduce a subscription model for its artificial intelligence (AI) tools and features in the future. A report by Bloomberg reveals that the company, which collectively refers to its AI features as Apple Intelligence, will initially offer these tools for free on supported Apple devices later this year. However, Apple has a long-term plan to monetise these features.

Meta is reportedly developing new artificial intelligence features for WhatsApp that will enable users to generate images of themselves in various backgrounds and themes. According to a report by WABetaInfo, these AI-powered image generation capabilities have been identified in the latest beta version of WhatsApp for Android. Although the feature is still under development, it may be included in a future app update.

Computer Age Management Services Ltd (CAMS) has collaborated with Google Cloud to develop next-generation platform for various business services, in the asset management industry.

The initiative aims to modernise the largest platform serving the Indian asset management industry with next generation capabilities.

“The next generation platform, envisaged with Google Cloud, is a strategic step of the company to leverage the multiple benefits of cloud-based platforms and emerging technologies for the rapidly growing asset management industry,” CAMS said in a statement here on Tuesday.

The platform would be designed and developed over a five-year period with implementation of specific modules in a phased manner.

Commenting on the development, CAMS Managing Director Anuj Kumar said, “Our technology platform has been the financial infrastructure for the Indian Mutual Fund industry, serving investors and the complex ecosystem diligently, while scaling up to build a market share of about 68 per cent in this arena. While the current platform continues to stand the test of time, the company is gearing up for the industry’s growth momentum with a modernised platform that will adopt a distributed, service-oriented cloud native architecture.”

Meta to show AI info, instead of 'Made by AI' label, on Instagram, Facebook

Meta to show AI info, instead of 'Made by AI' label, on Instagram, Facebook

AI info tag on Instagram and Facebook posts

Meta has updated the way it labels artificial intelligence manipulated content on its platform such as Instagram and Facebook. The US-based social media giant has updated its blogpost, which was initially posted in April, detailing how the company plans to label AI generated content. Meta said that it is updating the “Made with AI” label to “AI info” label across its apps. Unlike the static label, the AI info badge will be clickable and offer more information about the content.

The move follows reports stating that Meta has been marking real photos taken by photographers as “Made by AI”. According to media reports, a photo of a basketball game by Pete Souza, former White House photographer, was labelled as AI-generated.

Meta said that it uses “industry standard indicators” that AI companies include when marking the content created using their tools to detect if something is generated using AI. However, the company added that even minor editing to pictures is getting caught up by its identification mechanism, marking them as AI generated.

“Like others across the industry, we’ve found that our labels based on these indicators weren’t always aligned with people’s expectations and didn’t always provide enough context. For example, some content that included minor modifications using AI, such as retouching tools, included industry standard indicators that were then labelled “Made with AI”,” said Meta.

Meta said that it is working with companies across the industry to improve its labelling approach and the new “Ai info” label is a result of the improvement. The company said that it will be adding the new label to a wider range of video, audio and image content when it detects industry standard AI image indicators or when users disclose that they’re uploading AI-generated content.

Samsung is reportedly set to discontinue its compact flagship tablet with the next Galaxy Tab S series. According to a report by 9To5Google, the upcoming Galaxy Tab S series will include only a Plus model and an Ultra model, thereby phasing out the 11-inch standard model.

The report indicates that the Samsung Galaxy Tab S10 series, anticipated to launch around the Galaxy Unpacked event on July 10, will consist of a 12.4-inch model and a 14.6-inch model. These models are similar in size to the Galaxy Tab S9 Plus and Tab S9 Ultra, respectively. The discontinuation of the standard 11-inch display model would mark a significant shift in Samsung’s tablet lineup strategy.

Samsung is also reportedly considering a dual chip strategy for its flagship tablet series, offering Qualcomm Snapdragon processors in some regions and MediaTek chips in others. Currently, all models in the Galaxy Tab S9 series are powered by Qualcomm chips, while the Tab S9 Fan Edition (FE) models feature Samsung’s own Exynos chips. Although Samsung has previously employed a dual chip strategy, typically using its Exynos chip as an alternative to Qualcomm’s, this year’s Galaxy Tab S series devices could be the first flagship products from Samsung to utilise MediaTek chips.

Earlier reports suggest that Samsung is planning a similar strategy for its next-generation flagship Galaxy S series smartphones. The Galaxy S25 and Galaxy S25 Plus models, expected next year, may be powered by MediaTek chips in some regions. However, the Ultra model is anticipated to feature Qualcomm’s next-generation flagship chip. If Samsung adopts MediaTek chips for the Galaxy Tab S10 series, it is likely that the Ultra model will retain the Qualcomm Snapdragon processor.

UN adopts US-supported Chinese resolution on closing gap in access to AI

UN adopts US-supported Chinese resolution on closing gap in access to AI

The United Nations General Assembly adopted a Chinese-sponsored resolution with US support urging wealthy developed nations to close the widening gap with poorer developing countries and ensure that they have equal opportunities to use and benefit from artificial intelligence.

The resolution approved Monday follows the March 21 adoption of the first UN resolution on artificial intelligence spearheaded by the United States and co-sponsored by 123 countries including China. It gave global support to the international effort to ensure that AI is safe, secure and trustworthy and that all nations can take advantage of it.

Adoption of the two non-binding resolutions shows that the United States and China, rivals in many areas, are both determined to be key players in shaping the future of this powerful new technology and have been cooperating on these first important international steps.

The adoption of both resolutions by consensus by the 193-member General Assembly shows widespread global support for their leadership on the issue.

China’s UN Ambassador Fu Cong told reporters Monday that the two resolutions are complementary, with the US measure being more general and the just-adopted one focusing on capacity building.

He called the Chinese resolution, which had over 140 sponsors, great and far-reaching, and said, “We’re very appreciative of the positive role that the US has played in this whole process.”

Fu said AI technology is advancing extremely fast and the issue has been discussed at very senior levels, including by the US and Chinese leaders.

“We do look forward to intensifying our cooperation with the United States and for that matter with all countries in the world on this issue, which will have far-reaching implications in all dimensions,” he said.

The Chinese ambassador, however, strongly criticised the US Treasury Department’s proposed rule, announced on June 21, that would restrict and monitor US investments in China for artificial intelligence, computer chips and quantum computing.

“We are firmly opposed to these sanctions,” Fu said. China doesn’t believe the rule will be helpful to the healthy development of the AI technology per se, and will, by extension, divide the world in terms of the standards, and in terms of the rules governing AI. He called on the US to lift the sanctions.

The Chinese resolution calls on the international community to provide and promote a fair, open, inclusive and non-discriminatory business environment, from AI’s design and development to its use. Fu said, “China doesn’t think the US actions foster an inclusive business environment.”

Both the US and Chinese resolutions focus on the civilian applications of AI, but Fu told reporters the military dimension of artificial intelligence is also very important.

“We do believe that it is necessary for the international community to take measures to reduce the dangers and the risks posed by the development of AI,” he said.

China is actively participating in negotiations in Geneva on controlling lethal autonomous weapons, Fu said, adding that some countries are considering proposing a General Assembly resolution this year on the military dimension of AI and we are in broad support of that initiative.

Both the US and Chinese resolutions warned of the dangers of AI while also touting its potential benefits in promoting economic development and the lives of people everywhere.

The US resolution recognises that the governance of artificial intelligence systems is an evolving area that needs further discussions on possible governance approaches. It calls on countries to ensure that personal data is protected, human rights are safeguarded, and AI is monitored for potential risks.

Ambassador Fu, who headed the Foreign Ministry’s arms control department from 2018 to 2022, said,”China put forward the resolution because of the widening gap in AI technology between the developed North and developing South.”

He said, “China also wanted to highlight the central role the United Nations should play in AI governance as the most representative and most inclusive international forum.”

The Chinese resolution resolves to bridge the artificial intelligence and other digital divides between and within countries, and promote international cooperation, including sharing knowledge and transferring technology to developing countries.
