Sony Bravia 7 Mini LED series: Details

The Sony Bravia 7 series TVs are powered by Cognitive Processor XR, which the company said replicates the way humans see and hear. Sony said that the processor features a scene recognition system that understands the focal points within a scene and analyses data to produce detailed visuals.

The Cognitive Processor XR along with the mini LED display panel enables features such as XR Backlight Master Drive and XR Contrast Booster that use local dimming algorithms to control the display LEDs, enhancing depth, details and contrast of the visuals. The new processors also bring features such as XR Triluminous Pro, which essentially widens the colour spectrum of the display, and XR Clear Image, which minimises the noise in a video by dynamic frame analysis.

For content watching, the Sony Bravia 7 Mini LED series gets XR 4K upscaling that enhances the resolution of non high-res videos to near 4K quality. The TVs also get support for Dolby Vision that enhances High Dynamic Range (HDR) content for colour vibrancy and contrast.

The Bravia 7 series TVs includes Sony Pictures Core service that offers a range of IMAX enhanced movies and content. This service leverages the display of the TV that is certified by IMAX for video quality.

The audio system on the TVs support Dolby Atmos, which is an object-based audio virtualisation technology for enhanced surround sound effect.

For gaming, the Bravia 7 series TVs feature HDR Tone Mapping that automatically adjusts the HDR setting when setting up Sony’s PlayStation 5 gaming console with the TV. Samsung details Galaxy Ring features in Health app ahead of launch: report

Samsung details Galaxy Ring features in Health app ahead of launch: report

Samsung introduced the Galaxy Ring at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2024 in February. It is now anticipated to launch at the Unpacked event on July 10 in Paris, France. The ring is expected to arrive with a suite of fitness tracking features. While some of these features have been disclosed earlier, consumer technology news platform Android Authority has identified new features related to the Galaxy Ring in the latest Samsung Health app.

Health tracking features

According to the report by Android Authority, users will be able to measure their heart rate and stress levels with the Galaxy Ring. Additionally, the Galaxy Ring will measure skin temperature and predict menstrual cycles. The wearable will also identify snoring, but users will need to keep their phones nearby and on charge, similar to how this function works with the Galaxy Watch series. To enable this feature, users will have to allow the Samsung Health app on smartphones to record audio, which will include timestamped audio recordings of snoring.

Anticipated launch details

More details about the Galaxy Ring are expected to be revealed at the Unpacked event on July 10. The ring is anticipated to be launched in at least nine sizes. Samsung’s new category of smart wearable, the Galaxy Ring, will likely include a Galaxy Buds-like charging case. Besides the Galaxy Ring, Samsung is expected to launch the Galaxy Z Flip 6, Galaxy Z Fold 6, Galaxy Watch Ultra, Watch 7 series, and Buds 3 series at the event.

Samsung considers MediaTek chips for these Galaxy S25 series models: Report

Samsung considers MediaTek chips for these Galaxy S25 series models: Report

Samsung Galaxy S24 series

Samsung is reportedly considering chips from Taiwanese semiconductor entity MediaTek for its next-generation Galaxy S25 series smartphones. Moreover, the South Korean electronics maker could introduce a new design language that may look nothing like the current generation models. According to a report by 9To5Google, the next-generation Galaxy S series, expected to launch early next year, could introduce significant design changes and models featuring MediaTek chips.

Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra: Redesign

The Ultra model in the next-generation Galaxy S series is anticipated to abandon the squared-edge design in favour of more rounded corners. Recent iterations of Galaxy S Ultra smartphones have featured a boxy design, but this is expected to change next year. Additionally, the high-end model might include a curved display, though the extent of the curvature is currently unknown. The redesign is reportedly inspired by the Galaxy Note 7, which was launched in 2016 but subsequently recalled and discontinued.

MediaTek chips in Galaxy S25

While the Ultra model is anticipated to receive a comprehensive redesign, the standard and Plus models of next year’s Galaxy S series are expected to incorporate new chips. According to the 9To5Google report, which cites Financial News, Samsung is considering using MediaTek chips for some variants of the Galaxy S25 series smartphones, likely the standard models. This consideration is driven by Qualcomm’s significant price increase for its upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 system-on-chip (SoC). However, the Galaxy S25 Ultra is still expected to be powered by Qualcomm’s next-generation flagship chip.

To date, Samsung has utilised a dual-chip strategy in some regions for the Galaxy S series, typically employing its own Exynos chips as alternatives to Qualcomm’s processors. MediaTek chips have never powered a Samsung flagship phone, but this could change next year. Initially, Samsung planned to use its own Exynos 2500 chip, but potential issues during initial testing phases could have prompted the company to seek partnerships with firms like MediaTek.
