Soon, Instagram will allow creators to use AI chatbots in messages: Report

Soon, Instagram will allow creators to use AI chatbots in messages: Report

Meta has announced AI Studio for Instagram in beta that will allow creators in the US to generate artificial intelligence-powered chatbots. Meta CEO, Mark Zuckerberg on the company’s broadcast channel on Instagram said that Instagram users will start seeing AI chatbots from creators and interest-based AIs on the platform in the coming weeks. “These will primarily show up in messaging for now, and will be clearly labelled as AI,” said Zuckerberg.

Zuckerberg also shared a few images of the Instagram profiles of select creators who have received the personalised chatbot to chat with followers. From the creator’s profile page, followers can tap on the “Message” button next to the follow button to start a conversation with the AI chatbot. Zukerberg said that Meta has been closely working with creators to build these AIs, so that it is helpful in answering questions it gets from followers.

In addition to this, Zuckerberg said that the AI Studio is still in its early stages and the one available is the first beta version of the AI chatbots. “We’ll keep working on improving them, and make them available to more people soon’” he added.

Zuckerberg also shared a video interview on the channel where he detailed Meta’s strategy in the field of AI. In the interview Meta CEO said that these tools allow creators to create an “AI agent version of themselves to interact with their community”. He further added that in future Meta will allow users to create “UGC (user generated content) AI” which is not necessarily the AI version of themselves but a “virtual persona” that they want to exist.

iOS 18: RCS messaging is inconsistent between Google Android, Apple iPhone

iOS 18: RCS messaging is inconsistent between Google Android, Apple iPhone

Apple iOS 18 developer beta 2

Apple released iOS 18 developer beta 2 earlier this week. The second beta of the upcoming operating system for iPhone packed several new features, including support for Rich Communication Services (RCS) in select regions – not in India. Soon after, operators in select regions enabled support for RCS on iPhone, allowing iPhone users to benefit from RCS features while conversing with people with Google Android.

Though enabled by default, RCS on iOS will not be enabled if you are using a mobile virtual network operator but once RCS is active on the iPhone, it will not be affected by what network carrier the Android recipient is.

After opening an iPhone conversation in Google Messages, RCS messages will be visible in the text field. Typing indicators, read receipts and high-resolution images and videos work fine.

Conversation will be signified as not end-to-end encrypted by Google Messages via a lock icon with a slash. Message details will show the “Type” as “Rich Communication Service Message” instead of “End-to-End Encryption Rich Communication Service Message” that it usually shows in conversations between Android to Android using RCS.

Google also offers its own end-to-end Encryption for one-on-one conversation and group conversations as well for Android Messages. Apple wants the RCS Universal Profile standard to be added with encryption, so Google will supposedly shift to alternatives in upcoming days.

Moreover, the conversations’ details page shows some missing settings. While talking to someone with an iPhone, there is no “Only send SMS & MMS messages” on/off toggle for that thread and neither is there a card to inform about the end-to-end encryption status unless the user switches SIMs from Android to iOS as previously.

In group conversations, users can change the name and let it sync with all members. A “Leave group” option is also given.

It is assumed that Google will update Messages to address these challenges before the iOS 18 launch.

Samsung's Watch 7 Ultra, Buds 3 could feature Apple inspired design: Report

Samsung's Watch 7 Ultra, Buds 3 could feature Apple inspired design: Report

Representative image: Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 Classic (Photo: Evan Blass @evleaks)

Samsung is anticipated to unveil an Ultra model in the Watch 7 series at the Galaxy Unpacked event on July 10. While previous reports have offered insights into the specifications of the anticipated rugged smartwatch from Samsung, a report by 9To5Google suggests that the Ultra model will get an Apple Watch-like strap placement mechanism to swap the watch bands.

According to the report, the Galaxy Watch Ultra will get a band connector mechanism similar to that of Apple Watch. Samsung has traditionally used a spring-pin mechanism on its previous generation smartwatches to connect watch bands to the dial, however, the report suggests that the Ultra model of the Watch 7 series will get a new mechanism featuring buttons on the underbody, which when pressed will allow the watch band to slide out.

If true, the anticipated Galaxy Watch Ultra, with a new band connector mechanism will not allow users to swap bands that are compatible with the current generation Galaxy Watches. However, the report said that the upcoming Galaxy Watch 7 will get the traditional spring-pin mechanism, making it easy to customise for those who will upgrade from an older generation Galaxy Watch.

Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra: What to expect

The Galaxy Watch Ultra is expected to feature a titanium chassis and a square-shaped dial. The boxy frame would likely incorporate a circular display with sapphire glass protection. The smartwatch is expected to be offered in a dark grey colour with elements in orange alongside the frame. The watch would also likely feature an orange coloured rotating crown on the side of the frame alongside two buttons.

It is anticipated that the Ultra model would get a new microLED display technology for increased brightness compared to OLED screens. Some reports suggest that the watch could get as bright as 3,000 nits. The Galaxy Watch Ultra is expected to be powered by the new Exynos W940 chipset that is likely to debut with the Galaxy Watch 7 series.

Samsung would likely market the Galaxy Watch Ultra as an adventure watch. This would likely be supported by its battery capacity and durability features. According to reports, the Ultra model is expected to get up to 100 hours of battery life on a single charge. For durability, the Galaxy Watch Ultra could feature MIL-STD-810H certification for military standard durability. Additionally, an IP68 rating for resistance against water and dust is expected.
