Nothings CMF Phone 1 to launch on July 8 new Watch and Buds to tag along

British consumer technology brand Nothing has announced that it will be hosting its next Community Update event on July 8 at 10 AM BST (2:30 PM IST). The company confirmed that it would launch the CMF Phone 1, its maiden smartphone offering under its sub-brand CMF, during the event. The company also said that the second generation CMF Buds Pro and Watch Pro will tag along with the smartphone.

The CMF Phone 1 would likely offer an entry-point into the Nothing’s Ecosystem of products, as the smartphone is expected to be cheaper than the brand’s most affordable Nothing Phone 2a smartphone. The phone will be released under the CMF by Nothing brand.

Nothing’s CMF Phone 1: What to expect

The CMF Phone 1 is expected to be a rebranded version of the Nothing Phone 2a which was launched earlier this year. However, the upcoming CMF branded smartphone would likely feature a slightly underpowered processor in comparison to the Phone 2a with a different design theme.

In the announcement posted on X (formerly Twitter), Nothing shared a first look of the CMF Phone 1, revealing some elements of the design of the smartphone. In the image shared by the company, the smartphone dons a peppy orange colour theme, similar to the shade that the company has used with other CMF products like the GAN charger, CMF Buds, and more.

Moreover, the image shows a circular dial on the edge, resembling the fidget dial on the CMF Buds. Although it is yet to be seen if Nothing will utilise this rotating dial for added functionality on the CMF Phone 1. Additionally, the smartphone seems to feature a vegan-leather back panel that sits within the colour coordinated plastic frame.

CMF Phone 1: Expected specifications

The CMF Phone 1 is expected to be powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 7300 SoC and arrive with up to 8GB RAM and 128GB/256GB storage. The smartphone would likely feature a 6.67-inch FHD+ OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. For imaging, the CMF Phone 1 is anticipated to feature a dual camera set up with a 50-megapixel primary sensor. At the front, the smartphone could get a 16MP shooter.

A 5000mAh battery is expected to power the smartphone which would also get support for 33W fast charging. The Phone 1 is expected to run on Android 14-based Nothing OS custom skin out of the box.

Samsung is reportedly working on a more rugged Galaxy Watch model that is expected to launch alongside the Galaxy Watch 7 series at the Galaxy Unpacked event, which would likely be held on July 10. While the company has not confirmed the existence of a Galaxy Watch “Ultra” model, in a press release for Q1 2023 results in April, Samsung said that the company “will strive to meet demand for upgrades through the launch of new premium models.”

Additionally, 91 mobiles in its report stated that both the Galaxy Watch 7 and a Galaxy Watch Ultra model have received Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) certification, suggesting that the smartwatches will soon be made available in the Indian market.

Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra: What to expect

According to media reports, the Galaxy Watch Ultra could sport a titanium chassis providing the framework for a square-shaped dial. The boxy frame would likely incorporate a circular display with sapphire glass protection. It is anticipated that the Ultra model would get a new microLED screen for increased brightness compared to OLED screens. Some reports suggest that the watch could get as bright as 3,000 nits.

The smartwatch is expected to be offered in a single Titanium Gray colour variant that would likely feature an orange coloured rotating crown on the side of the frame. Being a rugged smartwatch, the Galaxy Watch Ultra could feature MIL-STD-810H certification for military standard durability. Additionally, an IP68 rating for resistance against water and dust is expected.

According to a TomsGuide report, the Galaxy Watch Ultra would be powered by the new Exynos W940 chipset that is likely to debut with the Galaxy Watch 7 series. However, the most notable improvement is expected to be in the battery department as the Ultra model is expected to get up to 100 hours of battery life on a single charge.

Not much is known about additional health monitoring features on the Galaxy Watch Ultra, however, the smartwatch would likely get sleep apnea detection that Samsung might introduce with the next-generation Galaxy Watch series.

YouTube's new feature to let users add notes to provide context to videos

YouTube's new feature to let users add notes to provide context to videos

YouTube has announced that it is experimenting with a feature that will let users add context to videos in the form of notes. This will help provide relevant information to others for clarification. This arrives in addition to other context prioritising features that YouTube has introduced recently such as information panels and additional requirements for disclosing synthetic or altered content.

A similar feature was introduced by the Elon Musk-led X platform in which the users can add community notes to a post, providing additional information about the post.

YouTube is making the pilot accessible on mobile to users in the US in English. Google’s streaming platform has accepted that there will be mistakes and that it will learn from them. Users are also invited to give feedback so that YouTube can improve and decide if the feature needs to be expanded.

Initially, selected users will be contacted via email or Creator Studio notification to start writing notes to test the feature. It would be necessary to have an active YouTube channel that follows the community guidelines of the platform to be eligible to be invited to use notes.

In the upcoming days, notes will be visible to the users in the US and during this time third party evaluators will rate if the notes are helpful and this information will be used to train the systems. YouTube has said that these will be the same evaluators who review their search results and recommendations. Eventually, the creators will also be allowed to rate the notes.

Notes will be visible publicly in a small box under a video if they are found helpful. Users will be asked if the notes are “helpful”, “somewhat helpful” or “unhelpful” and why. After the feedback, YouTube will employ a bridging based algorithm to analyse the ratings and decide which notes will be published. If a note is rated helpful by many users who previously rated the notes differently, YouTube will display that note.

Google launches Gemini app in India with support for nine local languages

Google launches Gemini app in India with support for nine local languages

Tech giant Google on Tuesday launched its Gemini Android application in India with support for nine Indian languages and English.

Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google, posted on X: “Exciting news! Today we’re launching the Gemini mobile app in India, available in English and nine Indian languages. We’re also adding these local languages to Gemini Advanced, plus other new features, and launching Gemini in Google Messages in English.”

Both the Gemini app and Gemini Advanced, which gives users access to Google’s most capable AI models, will now be available in nine Indian languages, helping more people access information and complete tasks in their preferred language, said Google in a blog post.

The company also announced new features such as data analysis capabilities and file uploads in its paid chatbot, Gemini Advanced.

Further, the company introduced an option to access Gemini through Google Messages in English.

“We’re also introducing Gemini in Google Messages to give you another way to collaborate with Gemini on your phone. Get help drafting messages, brainstorming ideas, or planning events—all without leaving the Messages app. We’ll be rolling out Gemini in Google Messages in English to start with, on select devices,” said the tech giant in a blog post.

The Gemini app will be available in Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu.

Further, Google’s paid AI chatbot, Gemini Advanced, based on the company’s most advanced model Gemini 1.5 Pro, will also be available to use in nine Indian languages.

“With a massive 1 million token context window, Gemini Advanced boasts the longest context of any widely available consumer chatbot worldwide,” said the company.

The Gemini app will allow users to perform tasks such as type, talk, or even add an image to get their queries answered by the AI chatbot, said the company.

“Take a picture of a flat tyre for instructions on how to change it, or get help writing that perfect thank-you note—the possibilities are endless. This marks a significant step forward in our journey to build a truly conversational, multimodal, and helpful AI assistant,” said Google in a blog post.

To access Gemini on Android, users will have to download the Gemini app or opt-in through Google Assistant.

On iOS, the tech giant said that Gemini access will roll out directly from the Google app over the next few weeks.

On concerns of data usage and privacy, Google said, “Privacy is a top priority. Gemini keeps your files private to you, and they’re not used to train our models.”
