Apple's foldable iPhone delayed further to 2027 due to display crease issue

Apple's foldable iPhone delayed further to 2027 due to display crease issue

Apple has pushed its foldable iPhone launch to 2027 over display crease issues, which is common across current generation foldable devices. According to a report by MacRumors, citing South Korea’s TrendForce, Apple is “still evaluating component specifications” as it plans to stick with “strict requirements for crease and reliability.” Apple is reportedly concerned about the screen creasing issue that might hamper the long-term durability of the flexible display in foldable.

The report also stated that the Cupertino-based technology giant is in no hurry to launch a foldable iPhone model despite competitors like Samsung gaining popularity in the segment. Reportedly, Apple’s market influence and an established customer base would give it an advantage upon the launch of a foldable product. Additionally, TrendForce report stated that Apple’s entry into the foldable segment could “significantly shift market dynamics.”

Earlier this year, 9To5Mac reported that Apple has moved some of the engineers, who were previously working on the Vision Pro headset, to develop foldable iPhone or iPads. It also stated that Apple’s South Korean display suppliers Samsung and LG have been sending screen samples for a possible foldable iPhone prototype model. The size of the display samples were said to be in the 7-inch to 8-inch range, suggesting that Apple might be planning on a book-style foldable smartphone that has a display size like an iPad mini, when opened.

The new MacRumor report stated that Apple would release a large screen foldable iPad or MacBook to make an entry into the foldable category before bringing in a foldable iPhone. This is further supported by Apple analyst Ming Chi Kuo, who in March said that Apple’s only foldable product with a proper development plan is its foldable MacBook with a bigger screen. Kuo in his post on X (formerly Twitter) stated that Apple has a “Clear development schedule” for a 20.3-inch foldable MacBook, which is likely to enter mass production by 2027.

Gemini AI on Gmail for Android could do lot more than writing email summary

Gemini AI on Gmail for Android could do lot more than writing email summary

Google is testing an improved Gemini AI on Gmail for Android. Reportedly, the mailing app is being tested with new Gemini AI features such as smart replies, email summarisation, and next steps suggestions. Consumer technology news platform Android Authority has reported that a new Gemini AI on Gmail for Android does more than just summarising emails and suggesting replies; it responds to some “non-email-related queries” as well.

According to the report, Google has been testing only a summarisation feature powered by AI so far. However, the new app version, which is currently being tested with limited users, Google has added a Gemini AI next to the archive option. As per the report, tapping on this Gemini AI icon opens up a new interface that includes options for summarising the email, suggesting a reply and a “List the next steps” option.

Tapping on either of the options starts a conversation with the Gemini AI chatbot and the user can choose one of the pre-set prompts or can type in a query. The report stated that the user can ask the chatbot to do various tasks within the app such as drafting an email reply, altering the tone of a drafted response and more. Users can also get assistance for some non-email-related queries.

Google has not officially revealed details about the availability of the feature. It is also likely that Google only rolls this feature out for paid tier customers. The new button is likely a part of Google’s initiative to integrate Gemini to native Google apps on Android.

YouTube's 'like' button recedes from view on web interface: Know reason

YouTube's 'like' button recedes from view on web interface: Know reason

Google’s video streaming platform YouTube offers various options at the bottom of the video for users to react with and allow sharing the video or to watch later. The number of likes increase when a user taps on the thumbs up icon, but for many users the like button has been vanishing from sight. In what is reportedly a bug, the thumbs up icon under the videos has been disappearing. Although likes on the videos available on the platform still get registered, the icon is no longer visible after tapping, leaving an empty space.

This problem has been faced by many and on various browsers. The video sharing platform has clarified about the issue in a support page that was published on Tuesday that the issue is being faced only on videos on the web and not on mobile. It has assured that it is looking into the issue as the like button “isn’t working as intended”.

Here is what you may be experiencing

Thumbs up icon not showing on the like button

The button still works to register a like on the video, but may show you a blank space once you tap on it. “Rest assured, whether or not the icon is showing, the video is still receiving the like!,” confirmed YouTube.

It is not clear when the issue will be resolved but YouTube has said that they follow up on the support page when they have an update. Reddit users faced a similar issue a few months ago and have been sharing about it.

Dislike button, on the other hand, has been working as before, although the number of dislikes were hidden by YouTube a few years ago.
