Over 500 AI models are now optimised for Core Ultra processors, says Intel

US-based semiconductor entity Intel on May 2 announced that there are now over 500 artificial intelligence (AI) models running optimised on its Core Ultra processors. These models, Intel said, are available from popular industry sources, including OpenVINO Model Zoo, Hugging Face, ONNX Model Zoo and PyTorch.

According to Intel, the optimised AI models draw from categories of local AI inferencing, including large language, diffusion, super-resolution, object detection, image classification/segmentation, computer vision, and others.

“Intel has a rich history of working with the ecosystem to bring AI applications to client devices, and today we celebrate another strong chapter in the heritage of client AI by surpassing 500 pre-trained AI models running optimized on Intel Core Ultra processors,” said Robert Hallock, Intel vice president and general manager of AI and technical marketing in the Client Computing Group. “This unmatched selection reflects our commitment to building not only the PC industry’s most robust toolchain for AI developers, but a rock-solid foundation AI software users can implicitly trust.”

Detailing how AI models work, Intel said these models are one of many critical layers in the software stack that determine the performance, stability and capabilities of an AI-driven application. OpenVINO, for example, optimises the Intel Core Ultra by load-balancing across all the compute units, compressing the models to run efficiently in an AI PC, and optimising the runtime to take advantage of memory bandwidth and core architecture within Intel Core Ultra.

With over 500 AI models now running optimised on Intel Core Ultra processors, developers have the opportunity to create new AI PC features by utilising these models and building on them. The more AI models there are, the more AI PC features are enabled – said Intel.

Google Search tests custom filters for results based on keywords, domains

Google Search tests custom filters for results based on keywords, domains

Google Search has started testing custom filters for results based on keywords and domains. Consumer technology news website 9To5Google has reported that the feature is available for select users, allowing them to tailor Search results according to their preferences. With custom filters, users can search on Google using specific keywords, specific websites, and domain types to find information.

According to the report, a user can set a filter for specific file types including PDFs, documents, spreadsheets, ebooks, and more. The custom filter feature on Google Search is said to allow users to filter out sources based on domain types. For example, searching with a filter such as “.org” or “.gov” will only show results from websites with the selected domain type. The feature also allows filtering results by time including past hour, day, week, month, and year.

According to 9To5Google, once the user has set a filter, they can save it with a custom name or tag and use it in future for Search results. Users can also edit filter templates, which get saved on their Google accounts and work across mobile and desktop platforms where the user is signed in.

The feature is only available to select users. However, it is expected to be available more widely in the coming weeks. Once available, the Google Search result page shows up a pop-up window informing the user that they can now use new custom filters for Search. A few examples that Google provides for the new feature include:

Discussions: To search for information on platforms like Quora and Reddit

PDF Only: Shows relevant PDF files in search results

Past 7 days: Shows search results based on information published on the web within the past week.

Coding: Shows results from coding websites such as Github and StackOverflow.

US to probe China's Insta360 over patent violation claims by GoPro

US to probe China's Insta360 over patent violation claims by GoPro

Photo: GoPro Hero 12 Black

The U.S. International Trade Commission is launching a probe into GoPro claims that patents for its cameras, systems and accessories are being violated by a Chinese firm importing similar products into the United States.

The USITC said in a public notice on Wednesday that the investigation under Section 337 of the Trade Act of 1930 applies to Shenzhen-based Arashi Vision, which makes the Insta360 line of camera products.

GoPro, whose brand name is largely synonymous with the wearable action camera market, has requested that the trade panel issue exclusion and cease and desist orders that would ban imports of the Insta360 products.

GoPro’s complaint said Insta360’s products, which include action and 360-degree cameras and systems and associated mounting systems and frame, infringe GoPro patents for the “novel and proprietary SuperView, virtual lens, HyperSmooth, and Horizon Leveling technology” used in its HERO and MAX lines.

It said this allows users to stretch image aspect ratios to wider frames, creating an “immersive” viewing experience.
