iOS 17.4: Apple to display elaborative battery health information on iPhone | Tech News – Business Standard

iOS 17.4: Apple to display elaborative battery health information on iPhone | Tech News – Business Standard

Apple is making changes to how the battery health information is displayed within settings on iPhones. According to a report by 9To5Mac, the beta version of iOS 17.4 system details battery health status in ways that could be clear for users to understand. According to the report, the battery section within the phone’s settings now displays two new menus – Battery Health and Charging Optimisation. In iOS 17.3, which is the latest available, both of these menus were incorporated into one under the “Battery Health and Charging” section.

While the battery health is currently denoted by the percentage of maximum capacity the battery can hold compared to when it was new, the new Battery Health menu provides information on whether the iPhone’s battery health is “normal” or not. Clicking on the menu will provide more information regarding the battery health such as the relative maximum capacity.

Additionally, there is a new section in the Battery section that provides information regarding iPhone batteries and warranty information.

The report stated that the Battery section on the iOS 17.4 indicates that the “original battery was designed to retain 80 per cent capacity at 1000 cycles under ideal conditions.” Contrary to this, Apple support documents mention up to 500 complete charge cycles.

It should be noted that these changes are only available to select iPhone 15 series users who are enrolled as public beta testers. It is likely that these changes will only roll out to iPhone 15 series users as only these models show battery cycle count information.

Apple will start rolling out the iOS 17.4 update publicly next month.

Samsung picks wearables to expand Galaxy AI beyond smartphones: Details | Tech News – Business Standard

Circle to Search on Samsung Galaxy S24 series

Samsung is working on plans to expand Galaxy AI beyond smartphones, starting with the wearables category. The South Korean electronics maker is already optimising Galaxy AI for various categories of devices and across various services, but it is the Galaxy wearables that will use AI in the near future.

“We are already planning next steps for Galaxy AI beyond smartphones – optimising it for various categories of devices, across various services,” said TM Roh, President and Head of MX Business, Samsung Electronics in a press note. “In the near future, select Galaxy wearables will use AI to enhance digital health and unlock a whole new era of expanded intelligent health experiences.”

Samsung has already announced that select Galaxy AI features it introduced on the Galaxy S24 series will be available through Galaxy Buds, its wearable audio line. These features include Live Translate and Interpreter, which will be available to the Galaxy Buds2 Pro, Galaxy Buds2 and Galaxy Buds FE.

Samsung has been specific about health wearables in the press note as the next category to get Galaxy AI in near future. It could be an indication of the arrival of Galaxy AI features with the Galaxy Ring.

Announced at the Galaxy S24 series launch, the Galaxy Ring is reportedly making debut together with the Galaxy Z foldable devices in July this year.

Samsung’s spokesperson Amber Reaver had told The Verge earlier last month that the upcoming Galaxy Ring is aimed at “empowering more people to manage their health with a comprehensive yet simplified approach to everyday wellness at home.” The report stated that the company sees the Ring as an alternative to fitness watches that is more comfortable to wear for longer durations.

Roh in his note said that Samsung will work alongside other “industry-leading AI partners” to expand the Galaxy AI experience. This might suggest that the South Korean tech giant will continue working with Google to bring more AI features that are exclusive to Samsung and Google devices.

Its collaboration with Google is already prominent in the Galaxy Watch series, which is powered by Google WearOS platform.

Samsung is reportedly planning to debut the Galaxy Ring at an unpacked event in July this year. According to a report by ETnews, the Galaxy Ring, announced alongside the Galaxy S24 series last month, will launch alongside the Galaxy Z foldable devices in the second half of July.

The report stated that the upcoming wearable fitness tracker by Samsung would feature “blood flow measurement” and electrocardiogram (ECG) functions to track and measure health-and-sleep related information. Additionally, the Galaxy Ring is expected to provide control of other Samsung smart devices remotely and support wireless payments.

The Samsung Galaxy Ring is reportedly in its prototype production stage with full-scale production expected to begin from the second quarter of 2024. The report stated that the Galaxy Ring could be made available in eight different sizes.

Apple is also exploring ways to accommodate health tracking capabilities to a smart wearable in ring form factor. Last year, Apple reportedly filed a patent for an “electronic system applied to the smart ring” to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

The collaboration comes amid rising demand for artificial intelligence chip manufacturing, Wipro said. While Wipro will support the partnership with design services, Intel Foundry is trusted with the manufacturing process, the statement further noted.

Focus on new startup markets in generative AI space

On the collaboration, Atul Kapur, the business head of HiTech at Wipro, said, “This new collaboration with Intel Foundry marks a significant step towards becoming a part of the semiconductor industry. This creates opportunities for Wipro and supports chip supply and chip manufacturing. Together, with Intel, we will deliver silicon devices to our clients with proven industry-standard flows and process technologies from Intel Foundry. We will be targeting new startup markets, especially in the Gen AI space, helping our clients further shorten the time to market.”

Commenting on the same, Rahul Goyal, the vice-president and general manager, product & design ecosystem enablement at Intel Foundry said, “We are delighted to have Wipro join us and demonstrate their readiness for our platforms at Intel Foundry Direct Connect. Wipro has a long history of delivering value across a range of industries, and we are excited to partner with them for the benefit of our mutual global customers.”

Modi govt’s push for chip manufacturing

Notably, chip manufacturing is a key plank of the Narendra Modi government’s business agenda as India aims to become a global player in the field and grab a share from China and Taiwan. For this goal, the Centre has also offered $10 billion in incentives to the industry to start local chip manufacturing.

In January, Taiwan’s Foxconn announced partnership with tech firm HCL Group for a semiconductor assembly and testing facility in India. Tata Group, Reliance Industries are also among leading companies, exploring opportunities in the field.
