Xbox exclusive games set to roll out on other consoles, confirms Microsoft | Tech News – Business Standard

Microsoft is set to bring select Xbox-exclusive video game titles to other gaming consoles and platforms. At least four games will be available on other consoles, such as Sony PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch, confirms Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer. During  a special edition of the official Xbox podcast on February 15, Spencers said, “We’ve made the decision that we’re going to take four games to the other consoles.”

The company has denied naming the titles that will be rolling out to other platforms. However, they did confirm that two of these are community-driven games while the remaining are smaller titles. According to a report by The Verge, the first two gaming titles that will lose their exclusivity to the Xbox platform will likely be Hi-Fi Rush and Pentiment. Sea of Thieves and Grounded video games will soon follow suit.

During the podcast, Microsoft Gaming CEO stated that he believes that there will be fewer console-exclusive video games over the next decade. “I do have a fundamental belief that over the next five or ten years, exclusive games, games that are exclusive to one piece of hardware, are going to be a smaller and smaller part of the game industry,” he said.

Although Microsoft has only confirmed that four exclusive games will be moving over to other platforms, media reports suggest that the company might soon add more popular titles to this list including games like Starfield. Additionally, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle video game, which was announced last month for Xbox consoles and Windows PC, could make way to other consoles as well.

When asked about the same in an interview with The Verge, Spencers confirmed that  Starfield and Indiana Jones are not part of the initial rollout. However, he did not rule out the possibility of other titles emulating the first four. “We don’t have work going on on other franchises. But for anybody to stand up and say something’s never going to happen, I think it feels like creating more certainty in a world of gaming where you really want to respond to what customers want and what our players and creators are looking for,” Spencer answered.

Opening up Xbox titles to other gaming consoles would likely give Microsoft more reach for its video games and an opportunity to generate more revenue from its gaming division.

OpenAI reveals Sora, a tool that makes instant videos from written prompts | Tech News – Business Standard

OpenAI reveals Sora, a tool that makes instant videos from written prompts | Tech News – Business Standard

Not to be outdone by competitors such as Google, who recently showcased a text-to-video tool, AI startup OpenAI on Thursday unveiled its own text-to-video model, Sora.

Like Google’s Lumiere, Sora has limited availability. Unlike Lumiere, Sora can create videos up to one minute long.

Text-to-video has become the latest arms race in generative AI, as OpenAI, Google, Microsoft, and others look beyond text and image generation to cement their position in a sector expected to generate $1.3 trillion in revenue by 2032 — and to win over consumers who have been intrigued by generative AI since ChatGPT debuted a little more than a year ago.

In a blog post on Thursday, the company said that the maker of both ChatGPT and Dall-E, Sora, will be available to “red teamers”, or experts in areas such as misinformation, hateful content and bias, who will be “adversarially testing the model.” It will also be engaging with visual artists, designers and filmmakers to gain additional feedback from creative professionals. That adversarial testing will be especially crucial in addressing the potential for convincing deepfakes, a major area of concern for the use of AI to generate images and video.

In addition to garnering feedback from outside the organisation, the AI startup stated that it wants to share its progress now to “give the public a sense of what AI capabilities are on the horizon.”

Strengths of Sora

One feature that may distinguish Sora is its ability to interpret long prompts, including one example that clocked in at 135 words. The example video published by OpenAI on Thursday shows Sora creating a wide range of characters and scenes, including people, animals, and fluffy monsters, as well as cityscapes, landscapes, zen gardens, and even New York City submerged underwater.

This is due in part to OpenAI’s previous work with the Dall-E and GPT models. The text-to-image generator Dall-E 3 was released in September 2023. Sora, in particular, uses Dall-E 3’s recaptioning technique, which, according to OpenAI, generates “highly descriptive captions for the visual training data.

“Sora is able to generate complex scenes with multiple characters, specific types of motion and accurate details of the subject and background,” the post said. “The model understands not only what the user has asked for in the prompt, but also how those things exist in the physical world,” it added.

The sample videos OpenAI shared on X (formerly Twitter) are very lifelike, with the exception of a close-up of a human face and sea critters swimming. Otherwise, you may have difficulty distinguishing between what is real and what is not.

Similar to Lumiere, the model can generate video from still photos, extend existing videos, and fill in missing frames.

“Sora serves as a foundation for models that can understand and simulate the real world, a capability we believe will be an important milestone for achieving AGI,” the post added.

AGI, or artificial general intelligence, is a more advanced version of AI that is closer to human-like intelligence and has the ability to perform a greater range of tasks. Meta and DeepMind have also shown an interest in reaching this benchmark.

Sora’s weaknesses

OpenAI admitted that Sora has weaknesses, like struggling to accurately depict the physics of a complex scene and to understand cause and effect.

“For example, a person might take a bite out of a cookie, but afterward, the cookie may not have a bite mark,” the post said.

And anyone who still has to make an L with their hands to figure out which one is left can take heart: Sora also mixes up left and right.

Is OpenAI’s Sora available to the public?

OpenAI did not specify when Sora will be widely available but noted it wants to take “several important safety steps” first. That includes adhering to OpenAI’s existing safety standards, which prohibit extreme violence, sexual content, hateful imagery, celebrity likeness and the IP of others.

“Despite extensive research and testing, we cannot predict all of the beneficial ways people will use our technology, nor all the ways people will abuse it,” the post said, adding, “That’s why we believe that learning from real-world use is a critical component of creating and releasing increasingly safe AI systems over time.”

Gemini 1.5: Google announces next-gen AI model with new architecture design | Tech News – Business Standard

Gemini 1.5: Google announces next-gen AI model with new architecture design | Tech News – Business Standard

Google has announced its next-generation AI model- Gemini 1.5. According to the company, this multimodal large language model (MLLM) showcases “dramatic improvements” in various departments. Google said that this new model could achieve comparable quality to Gemini Ultra 1.0, which is Google’s most advanced AI model currently while using less computation.

The first Gemini 1.5 model that the company is releasing for early testing is the Pro model. Gemini 1.5 Pro, which is a mid-size multimodal, will be available to select developers and enterprise customers through AI Studio and Vertex AI in a private preview.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai, in a blog post, stated that the Gemini 1.5 Pro model can process more information compared to the previous generation. “We’ve been able to significantly increase the amount of information our models can process — running up to 1 million tokens consistently, achieving the longest context window of any large-scale foundation model yet,” wrote Pichai.

Gemini 1.5: What is new

Google Gemini 1.5 model is based on Mixture-of-Experts (MoE) architecture. Compared to traditional Transfer architecture that works as one large neural network, models based on MoE divide the network into smaller “experts” that are specialised to compute a specific task.

Depending on the type of input provided, these models selectively activate only the most relevant expert to carry out the task. This technique enhances the efficiency of the model and also improves the quality of the output. MoE architecture also allows the model to be trained to carry out more complex tasks.

With Gemini 1.5 Pro, which is currently under testing, Google has increased the context window capacity to 1 million tokens from 32,000 on the Gemini 1.0 model. Google said that the new model is capable of processing one hour of video, 11 hours of audio and over 700,000 words in one go.

OpenAI introduces AI model 'Sora' that turns text into minute-long videos | Tech News – Business Standard

OpenAI introduces AI model 'Sora' that turns text into minute-long videos | Tech News – Business Standard

Microsoft-backed OpenAI is working on a software that can generate minute-long videos based on text prompts, the company said on Thursday.

The software, called Sora, is currently available for red teaming, which helps identify flaws in the AI system, as well as for use by visual artists, designers and filmmakers to gain feedback on the model, the company said in a statement.

“Sora is able to generate complex scenes with multiple characters, specific types of motion, and accurate details of the subject and background,” the statement said, adding that it can create multiple shots within a single video.

Apart from generating videos from text prompts, Sora can animate a still image, the company said in a blogpost.

The video generation software follows OpenAI’s ChatGPT chatbot, which was released in late 2022 and created a buzz around GenAI with its ability to compose emails and write codes and poems.

Social media giant Meta Platforms beefed up its image generation model Emu last year to add two AI-based features that can edit and generate videos from text prompts.

The Facebook-parent is also looking to compete with Microsoft, Alphabet’s Google and Amazon in the rapidly transforming generative AI universe.

Sora is a work-in-progress, with the company adding that the model may confuse the spatial details of a prompt, and have difficulty in following a specific camera trajectory.

OpenAI said it was also developing tools which can discern if a video was generated by Sora.

Google to provide AI cyber tools, investments to bolster online security | Tech News – Business Standard

Google to provide AI cyber tools, investments to bolster online security | Tech News – Business Standard

By Agatha Cantrill

Alphabet Inc.’s Google announced an initiative to provide artificial intelligence tools and investments to bolster online security, as the emerging technology is increasingly used to both protect against and perpetrate cybercrime.

Google will introduce a new open-source resource powered by AI that utilizes file type identification to help detect malware, the company said in a statement Friday. The tool, which is already being used to protect products including Gmail and Google Drive, will be made available for free.

The company will also release a white paper on Friday at the Munich Security Conference in Germany that details how it is using AI for cyber defense and that proposes a policy agenda that calls for advanced AI research and guardrails on autonomous cyber defenses.

“Our AI Cyber Defense Initiative reverses the ‘defender’s dilemma,’ where defenders have to be right all the time and attackers have to be right only once,” Kent Walker, the president for global affairs at Alphabet, said in a statement. “To keep up the momentum, we need policies that both mitigate the risks and seize the opportunities of AI.”

Google also announced additional investments in research grants and partnerships to advance cybersecurity research initiatives using AI and an expansion of cybersecurity seminars, including AI-focused modules.

Hackers are also integrating AI into their cyber operations. State-sponsored criminal groups are using large language models like OpenAI’s ChatGPT to improve their strategies and troubleshoot technical issues, according to a report by Microsoft Corp. this week.

Nearly all wealth gained by world's rich this year comes from AI | World News – Business Standard

Nearly all wealth gained by world's rich this year comes from AI | World News – Business Standard

Nvidia co-founder Jensen Huang’s wealth has surged as a blistering rally in AI-related stocks pushed the chipmaker’s market value above Amazon.com ’s for the first time.

The rally has minted another billionaire in Huang’s own family — his cousin Lisa Su, chief executive officer of Nvidia competitor Advanced Micro Devices, who’s worth $1.2 billion after the stock doubled over the past year.

Two chipmaker billionaires in one family illustrates the scope of the artificial-intelligence craze, which has come to dominate the stock market and accounts for most of the wealth gained by the world’s richest people this year.

Among the 500 wealthiest individuals, 30 attribute at least some of their fortune to companies that are tracked by the Bloomberg Global Artificial Intelligence Index. Those holdings have boosted their net worth by a combined $124 billion so far this year, accounting for 96 per cent of the total wealth gained on the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.

The biggest winners include Huang and Mark Zuckerberg, whose Meta Platforms is the second-best performer on the S&P 500 Index after Nvidia for the second year in a row. Steve Ballmer has ridden the wave of optimism that accompanied Microsoft’s partnership with OpenAI, while Michael Dell has seen his fortune surge thanks in part to AI initiatives at Dell Technologies  and Broadcom.

Su isn’t the only new billionaire to emerge from the surge: Charles Liang, co-founder of Super Micro Computer, has seen his fortune triple to $6.2 billion this year as his company’s stock has easily eclipsed the returns of other AI-related shares. And Palantir Technologies Inc. co-founder Alex Karp’s net worth is $2.8 billion after the maker of AI-powered software’s shares jumped 31 per cent in a single day last week following strong quarterly earnings.

Other billionaires have indirectly benefited. SoftBank Group founder Masayoshi Son’s net worth has risen by $3.7 billion this year after chipmaker Arm Holdings nearly doubled in three trading sessions following earnings that showed

AI spending is bolstering sales.
