Samsung Internet now available for Windows, allows syncing browsing data

Samsung Internet on Microsoft Store

Samsung Internet browser has started rolling out for Windows desktops. Samsung’s default browser has now been listed on the Microsoft Store, ready to be downloaded on devices running Windows 10 or later.

While supporting Windows devices, Samsung Internet is allowing users to sync browsing data from their Galaxy devices with their Windows desktops. However, account sync does not fetch saved passwords that the user may have on their Galaxy device.

According to a report by Android Central, Samsung Internet allows users to import browsing history and bookmarks from other browsers, such as Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge, after they log into their Samsung Cloud account.

The browser supports add-ons and extensions provided through Chrome and Edge as well. Clicking on Add-ons in Samsung Internet redirects users to the Chrome Web Store.

Other notable features include incognito mode, light and dark modes and support for ad-blockers.

Earlier, Samsung announced that it would debut Galaxy AI early next year. The South Korean electronics maker said the Galaxy AI is a comprehensive mobile AI experience, powered by both on-device AI developed at Samsung and cloud-based AI enabled by its collaborations with industry leaders.

In a blog post, Samsung said its Galaxy AI is universal intelligence designed for smartphones that would bring novel experiences in all the places it matters most — from barrier-free communication to simplified productivity to unconstrained creativity.

In a preview, Samsung announced the “AI Live Translate Call” feature that would be part of the comprehensive Galaxy AI experience. Samsung said the AI Live Translate Call feature will soon give users with the Galaxy AI phone a personal translator whenever they need it. It would be integrated into the native call feature, therefore, iron out the hassle of having to use third-party apps.

Google Drive’s document scanner now available on iPhones and iPads: Details

Google Drive’s document scanner now available on iPhones and iPads: Details

Image: Document scanner in Google Drive iOS app

Google is rolling out the integrated document scanner feature on Google Drive for iPhone and iPad users.

Google Drive application on iOS and iPadOS gets a dedicated floating action button for the document scanner above the ‘Add new’ button in the workspace, shared and files section. This action button launches a viewfinder that can automatically scan the document while also allowing manual capture.

The viewfinder also features grid lines to assist users in aligning the document correctly. The preview option available in the bottom-left corner lets users crop, rotate and apply filters to the scanned document.

The new document scanner for Google Drive is now rolling out for both Google Workspace customers and users with personal Google Accounts on iOS and iPadOS.

Google has also started to roll out a new homepage layout for Google Drive on the web, which has been under testing.

The Drive now features a streamlined homepage that shows personalised file and folder suggestions using machine learning algorithms. The new filter chips allow users to narrow down their search and find relevant files across Drive based on their type, modification date, location and people with whom it has been shared with.

The new layout design has started to roll out for select Google Account holders and will be available to all users by January next year.

Google Drive’s homepage layout was recently redesigned on iOS and Android devices, too. The new design allows users to see more recommended files at once, such as those that have been recently opened, shared or edited.

The Notification log in Drive has been replaced with an Activity view section adjacent to ‘Suggested’. This section showcases items that need user attention such as pending access requests, recent comments and awaiting approvals

Amazon launches Q, biz chatbot powered by generative AI to challenge rivals

Amazon launches Q, biz chatbot powered by generative AI to challenge rivals

Amazon finally has its answer to ChatGPT.

The tech giant said Tuesday it will launch Q a business chatbot powered by generative artificial intelligence.

The announcement, made in Las Vegas at an annual conference the company hosts for its AWS cloud computing service, represents Amazon’s response to rivals who have rolled out chatbots that have captured the public’s attention.

San Francisco startup OpenAI’s release of ChatGPT a year ago sparked a surge of public and business interest in generative AI tools that can spit out emails, marketing pitches, essays, and other passages of text that resemble the work of humans.

That attention initially gave an advantage to OpenAI’s chief partner and financial backer, Microsoft, which has rights to the underlying technology behind ChatGPT and has used it to build its own generative AI tools known as Copilot. But it also spurred competitors like Google to launch their own versions.

These chatbots are a new generation of AI systems that can converse, generate readable text on demand and even produce novel images and videos based on what they’ve learned from a vast database of digital books, online writings and other media.

Amazon said Tuesday that Q can do things like synthesize content, streamline day-to-day communications and help employees with tasks like generating blog posts. It said companies can also connect Q to their own data and systems to get a tailored experience that’s more relevant to their business.

The technology is currently available for preview.

While Amazon is ahead of rivals Microsoft and Google as the dominant cloud computing provider, it’s not perceived as the leader in the AI research that’s led to advancements in generative AI.

A recent Stanford University index that measured the transparency of the top 10 foundational AI models, including Amazon’s Titan, ranked Amazon at the bottom. Stanford researchers said less transparency can make it harder for customers who want to use the technology to know if they can safely rely on it, among other problems.

The company, meanwhile, has been forging forward. In September, Amazon said it would invest up to USD 4 billion in the AI startup Anthropic, a San Francisco-based company that was founded by former staffers from OpenAI.

The tech giant also has been rolling out new services, including an update for its popular assistant Alexa so users can have more human-like conversations and AI-generated summaries of product reviews for consumers.

Meta to support project for using Gen AI in consumer grievance redressal

Meta to support project for using Gen AI in consumer grievance redressal

Social network major Meta on Tuesday said it will support a National Law School of India University’s research project for using generative AI technologies to enhance efficiency in consumer grievance redressal system.

The research initiative will explore the feasibility of leveraging Llama 2, Meta’s openly available large language model (LLM), in creating a citizen-centric chatbot and a decision-assist tool in the area of consumer law, to guide consumers on the procedural aspects of drafting a complaint and answering questions relating to consumer law in India, the company said in a statement.

The research project will explore how LLMs can assist consumers or judicial authorities in the context of ongoing oversight and control by human decision makers.

National Law School of India University (NLSIU) is undertaking the research project in collaboration with IIT Bombay and the Department of Consumer Affairs.

NLSIU and IIT Bombay will also release a white paper explaining the risk mitigation approaches implemented and how responsible design principles have been deployed at every layer of stack.

Meta Vice President, Global Policy Joel Kaplan said, Meta has put exploratory research, open science, and collaboration with academic and industry partners at the heart of our AI efforts for over a decade. We’ve seen first-hand how open innovation can lead to technologies that benefit more people and transform sectors.

YouTube has launched Playables platform, allowing Premium subscribers to play games online. Google’s video streaming platform posted on its experiment page that the feature will allow premium users to play games on Android, iOS, and desktop web versions of the application. The feature will be available on the platform until March 28 next year.

YouTube is currently offering more than 30 arcade and puzzle-style games along with some standouts, including Angry Birds Showdown, Brain Out, Daily Solitaire, The Daily Crossword, and 8 Ball Billiards Classic.

Users can access the Playables shelf either by scrolling down on YouTube’s Home page or through a link in the Explore menu on desktops and smartphones.

YouTube’s Playable platform is still in its experimental stage and is currently rolling out for Premium subscribers. The company has not yet confirmed if the platform will be available for free users as well after its testing phase is over.

Recently, YouTube rolled out new rules for AI content, including a requirement that creators reveal whether they’ve used generative artificial intelligence to make realistic-looking videos.

In a blog post outlining a number of AI-related policy updates, YouTube said creators who don’t disclose whether they’ve used AI tools to make altered or synthetic videos face penalties, including having their content removed or suspension from the platform’s revenue-sharing program.
