Samsung Gauss: Know everything about the generative AI model in the works

Samsung Gauss: Know everything about the generative AI model in the works

Samsung said Gauss is a language model that is capable of generating text, composing emails, editing and summarising documents, and translating languages

South Korean electronics maker Samsung at its AI Forum announced Gauss, its in-house generative artificial intelligence model. The AI model encompasses Gauss language model, Gauss Code, and Gauss generative image model. Samsung’s generative-AI model is named after mathematician Carl Friedrich Gauss.

Samsung said Gauss is a language model that is capable of generating text, composing emails, editing and summarising documents, and translating languages. It added that integrating Gauss language into products would enable smarter device control.

According to Samsung, the Gauss code and coding assistant are based on the Gauss language and are optimised for in-house software development, allowing developers to code easily.

Speaking about multi-modal support, Samsung said its Gauss Image is a generative image model that is capable of generating and editing creative images and would have the feature for upscaling low-resolution images.

Alongside the gen-AI models, Samsung announced that it has constituted an “AI Red Team” based on the principles of AI ethics. According to Samsung, the AI Red Team would eliminate and monitor security and privacy issues that may arise in the AI implementation process – ranging from data collection to AI model development and AI generated results.

Samsung said Gauss is currently being used for employee productivity, but would be expanded soon to a variety of Samsung product applications for general users.

WhatsApp plans to put ads in status and channels, but not in inbox: Report

WhatsApp plans to put ads in status and channels, but not in inbox: Report

WhatsApp is not planning to show any ads in the main inbox, but could show ads in other places

WhatsApp head Will Cathcart in a recent interview with a Brazilian media outlet said that the messaging platform may start showing ads in status and channels sections, according to a news report on TechCrunch. The report stated that WhatsApp is not planning to show any ads in the main inbox, but could show ads in other places.

Denying the rumours about Meta planning to put ads in Inbox, Cathcart said that the platform may put ads in channels or status but not in messages as channels might charge people to subscribe or might be exclusive to paid members. According to TechCrunch report, Cathcart earlier this year denied a report from Financial Times that noted the Meta-owned messaging platform is planning to show ads on the platform.

According to media reports, Meta is not currently testing ads in WhatsApp but might start working on it in future.

Recently, it was reported that WhatsApp is testing a new privacy feature called alternate profile. Currently in beta, the alternate profile feature lets users restrict access to user profile photo and name to contacts only while displaying an alternate profile photo and name to other users. Essentially, it lets the users on the platform keep a separate profile name and picture for saved contacts and others.

Instagram tests a feature to let users disable read receipts for messages

Instagram tests a feature to let users disable read receipts for messages

Mosseri on his broadcast channel on Instagram shared screenshots of the upcoming feature

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg on his broadcast channel on Instagram announced that the social media platform is testing a new privacy feature that would allow users to turn off read receipts for messaging. This feature would allow the receiver to hide the read status for a message from the sender.

In a related announcement, Instagram head Adam Mosseri said that the platform is currently testing the heavily requested feature that would let users “choose when to let others see when they have read their messages.” Mosseri on his broadcast channel on Instagram shared screenshots of the upcoming feature, which hints at the option to disable read receipts that would be available under the “Privacy and Safety” settings.

A similar feature is already available on the Meta-owned messaging platform WhatsApp, which lets users disable read receipts for reading messages privately.

Instagram has not made an official statement regarding the roll out plan for the feature, but it is expected to be available soon for general users through app update.

Previously, it was also reported that Instagram is working on other privacy features such as the option to create multiple lists similar to the ‘Close Friends’ list currently available. This feature would reportedly allow users to share tailored content for a specific group of people from their following list.
