The cover screen would be of 17:9 aspect ratio and feature a 0.3mm bezel. As for the customisation options, OPPO said the cover screen would be customisable with up to 20 styles and three quick access widgets, including Messages, Camera, Battery, Recorder, Timer, and To-dos. Besides, it would let users choose from eight digital pets with animated actions that react to users and their environment.

Design and Hinge

The Find N3 Flip would be offered in Cream Gold and Sleek Black colours. OPPO promises a slew of upgrades over the previous generation Find N2 Flip, including an improved Flexion hinge design. About the hinge in the Find N3 Flip, OPPO said it has upgraded it from the single friction plate of the previous generation to a dual friction plate structure to improve FlexForm stability. As for the design, OPPO said the Find N3 Flip would sport a Gorilla Glass 7 cover back. When unfolded, OPPO said the Find N3 Flip would measure 7.79mm and it would weigh 198g. The Find N3 Flip would be the first OPPO smartphone to feature an alert slider similar to the one seen on the OnePlus smartphones.

Camera

With regard to imaging, OPPO said the Find N3 Flip would feature a triple-camera set-up in a circular module next to the cover screen. The device would feature a 50-megapixel (Sony IMX890) main camera paired with a telephoto portrait camera (32MP Sony IMX709 sensor). OPPO said it has fine-tuned its bokeh effects with inputs from Hasselblad for portrait photos. The third camera sensor is a 114-degree ultra-wide-angle camera (48MP Sony IMX581 sensor). On the display, the Find N3 Flip would sport a 32MP Sony IMX709 RGBW punch-hole camera for video calls, selfies, and 4K 30fps videos.

Besides, there would be a Dual Preview window for users to check the frame on both screens. OPPO said it has worked with Hasselblad to integrate the Hasselblad Natural Colour Solution into the camera system.

MediaTek Dimensity 9200 chipset would power the Find N3 Flip. Together with 12GB LPDDR5X RAM, the smartphone is said to deliver smooth performance.

Battery and charger

The Find N3 Flip would be powered by a 4,300mAh battery, supported by OPPO’s proprietary 44W SUPERVOOCTM fast-charging technology.

Apple Watch Series 9 review: All about display, performance in current form

Apple Watch Series 9 review: All about display, performance in current form

The Watch Series 9 is a feature-packed smartwatch with an identical design to its predecessor. Powered by Apple’s S9 system-in-package (SiP), the 2023 model brings improvements in performance and power efficiency, despite featuring a brighter display that Apple claims can reach a maximum brightness of 2,000 nits. Additionally, the Watch Series 9 is equipped with a second-generation ultrawide-band chip for precise iPhone tracking.

On the software front, the Watch Series 9 introduces a new double-tap gesture, allowing users to operate some watch features without touching the display. Furthermore, Siri requests are now processed on the device, resulting in faster response times. These features are not available out of the box but are slated to arrive in a subsequent Watch OS 10 firmware update later this year. In its current form, the Apple Watch Series 9 focuses on display and performance.

Speaking of the display, which serves as the window to the smartwatch experience, the one on the Apple Watch Series 9 remains the same in terms of size and shape as the previous generation, but it boasts double the maximum brightness. This boost in brightness makes the display easily readable in bright outdoor environments. Apple has also ensured usability in dimly lit surroundings, as the display can dim to a minimum brightness of just one nit when in Sleep Focus mode. Complementing the bright display are the new watch faces, part of Watch OS 10, including Snoopy, Palette, and Solar Analog.

Turning to performance, the Watch Series 9 is swift and responsive, with no noticeable lag or slowdown in the interface. The performance enhancements brought by the Apple S9 SiP are evident even in everyday use. However, the real strength of the chip becomes apparent in its power efficiency. The Watch Series 9 manages to deliver a full day of on-battery time, even when used extensively for tracking outdoor health activities with the always-on display enabled. In general use, with the always-on display still active, the on-battery time extends to a couple of days.

Verdict

While the Apple Watch Series 9 may not initially appear as a significant upgrade, starting at Rs 41,900, it holds promise with features such as the double-tap gesture and on-device Siri soon to be available. For current Apple Watch Series users seeking an upgrade, the Watch Series 9 presents a compelling option.

iPhone 15 series: Apple releases software update to resolve heating issue

iPhone 15 series: Apple releases software update to resolve heating issue

Shortly after the iPhone 15 models were launched, consumers complained about overheating issue in the Pro models

Apple released an update to its iOS 17 software on Wednesday to resolve an overheating issue related to its latest iPhones.

The iPhone 15 series, encased in a titanium shell, was launched last month with its custom A17 pro chip powering the Pro and Pro Max phones. The hardware on the Pro line makes the devices suitable for high-end mobile gaming.

Shortly after the iPhone 15 models were launched, consumers complained about bad battery life and overheating.

The latest update to the iOS 17 software includes “important bug fixes, security updates, and addresses an issue that may cause the iPhone to run warmer than expected,” an Apple spokesperson said on Wednesday.

After complaints that the new phones are getting very warm, Apple had said earlier this week that the device may feel warmer in the first few days “after setting up or restoring the device because of increased background activity.” Recent updates to some third-party apps including Meta’s Instagram and Uber were overloading the system, the company said, adding that the Pro models do not suffer from overheating due to the design, rather the new titanium shells result in improved heat dissipation.

India among top 3 nations with highest 5G base, roll-out remarkable: Nokia

India among top 3 nations with highest 5G base, roll-out remarkable: Nokia

The 5G network roll-out in India has been remarkable and the country is among the top three nations with the largest 5G installed base in the world, a top Nokia official said.

Nokia President and CEO Pekka Lundmark was addressing an event during the inauguration of the company’s 6G research lab in Bengaluru on Thursday.

“5G roll-out in India is truly remarkable. This has been one of the fastest telecom network roll-outs ever and means India is now among the top three countries in the world that have the largest 5G installed base, with 5G download speeds beating those found in many advanced markets,” Lundmark said.

While there has been a decline in telecom gear shipment across major geographies, the 5G roll-out in India has been able to offset a dip in the business of Ericsson and Nokia.

Nokia posted 333 per cent growth in India sales at about Rs 9,500 crore in the June quarter of 2023.

Ericsson reported 74 per cent growth in net sales in the June 2023 quarter in “South East Asia, Oceania and India” to around Rs 10,700 crore of which around 90 per cent of its business comes from India.

Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel are expected to invest about Rs 75,000 crore in the current financial year to strengthen their networks, according to a report by JM Financial.

According to the report, Jio may invest around Rs 42,000 crore and Bharti Airtel around Rs 33,000 crore in FY24, but the investment will taper down after their 5G network roll-out target is met as per their announcement.

“We are satisfied with this work so far – but there is still more to do. We will continue to support India’s digital transformation across industry, society and public services,” Lundmark said.

Nokia’s 6G Lab was inaugurated virtually by Union Telecom Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.

The first-of-its-kind project aims to accelerate the development of fundamental technologies and innovative use cases underpinned by 6G technology that will address the future needs of both industry and society.

Nokia’s 6G lab will function as a platform for collaboration among industry stakeholders and facilitate the testing of innovative solutions while establishing their potential for commercialisation.

The lab includes a setup to research ‘Network as a Sensor’ technology that enables the network to sense objects, people and movement without the need for onboard sensors.

In the 6G era, ‘Network as a Sensor’ has been identified as a key enabling technology that supports the vision of bringing the digital and physical worlds together, Nokia said in a statement.

Sensing will be fully integrated into the wireless network and operate simultaneously with communication services.

“Nokia’s experts at its Bengaluru centre will support India’s ambition to make notable contributions towards global 6G technology standards. Further, it is in the process of building research collaborations with premier research institutes in India like IISc and IITs to further scale up the 6G research initiative in India,” the statement said.

Last month, India’s vision to have ubiquitous coverage under 6G technology was accepted by UN body ITU’s Study Group in its meeting held in Geneva — a move that is expected to reduce the cost of deployment of the next-generation technology.

The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) decides on the development of international mobile telecommunication standards after coordination with its member countries, technology companies and other stakeholders.

India has already secured more than 200 patents on 6G technology through Industry and academic collaboration with the support of the Department of Telecom.
