ChatGPT traffic experiences decline for third consecutive month: Report

ChatGPT traffic experiences decline for third consecutive month: Report

According to a report by analytics firm Similarweb, ChatGPT OpenAI’s highly popular artificial intelligence (AI) tool saw a third consecutive monthly decrease in website traffic during August.

There are also indications that this decline could be stabilising, according to Reuters.

Global website traffic to the ChatGPT website, including both desktop and mobile visits, totalled 1.43 billion visits and witnessed a 3.2 per cent decline. This comes after a roughly 10 per cent decrease in traffic for the two preceding months.

Also, the average duration of time visitors spent on the website has come down since March, from an average of 8.7 minutes per visit to 7 minutes per visit by August.

There was a slight bump in the number of unique visitors to ChatGPT’s website globally, increasing from 180 million users to 180.5 million users to 7 minutes per visit by August.

Analysts see the resumption of schools for the new academic year in September to have a positive effect on ChatGPT’s website traffic. Some schools have already begun to use ChatGPT as a tool. This development is reflected in the slight increase in ChatGPT traffic in the US during August, coinciding with the reopening of American schools.

David F Carr of Similarweb stated that the percentage of younger users of ChatGPT fell over the summer and is now beginning to rise. Students seeking homework help seem to be part of the story.

OpenAI tried to broaden its reach by launching the ChatGPT app on the iOS platform in May, which may have potentially deflected some traffic away from its website. ChatGPT is free to users and offers a premium subscription option priced at $20 per month.

ChatGPT is based on an earlier large language model, or LLM, called GPT-3.5. ChatGPT became the fastest-growing app in history, reaching 100 million users just two months after its launch, before being overtaken by Meta-owned Threads.

YouTube Playables: Everything about Google’s upcoming online gaming service

YouTube Playables: Everything about Google’s upcoming online gaming service

YouTube, a Google-owned video sharing platform, is testing a new experience called Playables, which would allow users to play games online on both desktop and mobile devices. Playables is currently available to a limited number of users as an experimental service. Users who are part of this experiment would see a section on YouTube called ‘Playables’. It will appear alongside other content on the home feed. Also, they can view and control their Playables history and save game progress in YouTube History.

According to a report on the 9To5Google, Stack Bounce game (based on HTML5) is available for the users in the experimental phase. YouTube has not officially announced the Playables yet, and there is no clarity on the general availability of the feature.

Recently, Google started testing song recognising features for users where they can search songs on Youtube by humming or recording that’s currently being played. Users can search, hum or record the song for up to three seconds and it would suggest relevant official music content, videos, shorts and other content related to it.

Bringing a gaming feature on app and website will not be new as a similar experience is offered by Netflix, which also offers simple games based on movies and shows available on the platform. This was started back in November 2021 with five games that now has expanded to up to 70 games.

Another new feature that Google has recently added to YouTube is the new vertical live feed for mobile viewers. It allows creators to stream vertical videos either on mobile or through desktop streaming software. It will be visible to eligible viewers browsing Shorts on the YouTube app.

Reliance Jio, Nvidia to develop AI infrastructure in India, for India

Reliance Jio, Nvidia to develop AI infrastructure in India, for India

Reliance Jio Infocomm and chip maker Nvidia on Friday announced that they will develop India’s own foundation large language model (LLM) trained on India’s languages and tailored for generative artificial intelligence (AI) applications in the country.

“The companies will work together to build AI infrastructure that is over an order of magnitude more powerful than the fastest supercomputer in India today,” Nvidia said in a release.

Nvidia will provide access to the advanced GH200 Grace Hopper Superchip and DGX Cloud, an AI supercomputing service in the cloud.

Reliance will create AI applications and services for their 450 million Jio customers and provide AI infrastructure to scientists, developers and startups across India.

“We are delighted to partner with Reliance to build state-of-the-art AI supercomputers in India,” said Jensen Huang, founder and chief executive officer (CEO) of Nvidia.

“India has scale, data and talent. With the most advanced AI computing infrastructure, Reliance can build its own large language models that power generative AI applications made in India, for the people of India.”

The AI infrastructure will be hosted in AI-ready computing data centres that will eventually expand to 2,000 MW. Jio will manage execution and implementation.

“As India advances from a country of data proliferation to creating technology infrastructure for widespread and accelerated growth, computing and technology super centres like the one we envisage with Nvidia will provide the catalytic growth just like Jio did to our nation’s digital march,” said Mukesh Ambani, chairman and managing director of Reliance Industries.

“I am delighted with the partnership with NVIDIA and looking forward to a purposeful journey together.”

“Together, we will develop a state-of-the-art AI cloud infrastructure that is secure, sustainable and deeply relevant across India, accelerating the nation’s journey towards becoming an AI powerhouse,” added Akash Ambani, chairman of Reliance Jio Infocomm.

Apple reportedly working on gen-AI like features in Siri: Details here

Apple reportedly working on gen-AI like features in Siri: Details here

The company has named the event ‘Wonderlust’, which will take place at Apple Park, California

Apple is gearing up for its upcoming event ‘Wonderlust’ on September 12, where the US technology giant is expected to announce the iPhone 15 series. While the early event buzz is centered on the iPhone, there are reports coming in that could take the limelight away from the phones.

According to media reports, Apple is training its virtual assistant, Siri, with generative artificial intelligence. Besides, there are reports that Apple is spending millions of dollars to develop an in-house language model called Ajax.

According to a news article on MacRumours, Apple is preparing Siri for AI’s future by enabling deeper integration with the Shortcuts automation tool. The new Siri is expected to be part of the iOS 18 update, which is likely to be released in late 2024. Apple also plans to incorporate language models in Siri, enabling users to automate complex tasks using generative AI.

Besides, Apple is working on its in-house large language model called Ajax to power its generative AI applications. According to news reports, Apple’s generative AI model would have the potential to recognise and generate image, text, and videos along with automating tasks like converting GIFs, generating 3D scenes and more.

At present, Apple plans to integrate LLMs into its voice assistant Siri. Bloomberg had previously reported that Apple’s large language model will be called Ajax GPT. It is touted to be better than OpenAI’s GPT 3.5 by Apple enthusiasts.

John Giannandrea, Apple’s head of AI, and a new team of 16 members named the “Foundational Model,” are working on large-language models (LLMs). John was hired in 2018 to improve Siri before which he was working for Google.

Until now, Siri is the only Apple product with AI at the core. Its heart monitoring and fall detection features use machine learning apart from this.
