‘Trouble’ fixed, Twitter back to normal after brief outage on iOS

Micro-blogging platform on Thursday said that it has fixed the “trouble” that many iOS users experienced earlier, and hoped things would be back to normal now.

The company tweeted from its @TwitterSupport account: “Pardon the interruption! iOS users may have experienced some trouble using earlier. Things should be back to normal now.”

User reports peaked at more than 8,700 on the online outage monitor website Downdetector.

According to the outage monitor website, over 85 per cent of people had reported problems while using the application, 8 per cent while using the website, and 7 per cent with server connection.

Taking to the platform, several users reported the issue.

While one user asked, “is down or did I get suspended,” another said, “why is Twitter down AGAIN. you are running this app into the GROUND Elon.”

Last week, the micro-blogging platform had suffered a massive outage when several users globally, including in India, reported having issues while posting a tweet and sending direct messages (DMs).

After receiving multiple reports of the outage, the company had posted from its @TwitterSupport account stating, “Twitter may not be working as expected for some of you. Sorry for the trouble. We’re aware and working to get this fixed.”

Later, Twitter CEO Elon Musk had said that the platform was facing “multiple internal and external issues simultaneously” and would be “fully back on track later tonight”.

Microsoft adds more languages to Windows 11’s live captions feature

Microsoft adds more languages to Windows 11’s live captions feature

Tech giant has announced that it is releasing “ Insider Preview Build 25300″ to the Dev Channel, which includes more languages support for Windows 11’s live captions feature.

The live captions feature was first released in September last year, but only provided captions in English, with a focus on English (United States), the tech giant said in a blogpost on Wednesday.

“In this build, live captions gains the ability to also provide captions in Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), French, German, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese (Brazil), Spanish and other English dialects.”

Moreover, the company will add more languages as they become available.

Live captions can be turned on with the WIN + Ctrl + L keyboard shortcut, or from the quick settings accessibility flyout via Quick Settings.

Live captions will prompt users to download the necessary speech recognition support when users turn them on for the first time, in order to allow on-device captioning.

If speech recognition support is not available in the users’ preferred Windows language or if they want support in other languages, they will be able to download speech recognition support for live captions by navigating to Settings > Time & Language > Language & region.

The company is also trying out “different treatments for snap layouts” with Windows Insiders in the Dev Channel.

“We are investigating ways to improve the discoverability and usage of the snap layouts such as decreasing the hover time required to invoke the flyout when you mouse over the maximum/restore button in an app’s title bar,” the tech giant said.

Google redesigns its Gboard app for Android, brings revamped toolbar

Google redesigns its Gboard app for Android, brings revamped toolbar

American tech giant Google’s keyboard app for Android, Gboard, which has been the staple for messaging and typing on millions if not billions of devices out there, is now getting a redesign.

According to GSM Arena, a tech news-related website, Android Police has found out that the app is being redesigned, and beta testers already got to see where the changes are.

The major visual improvement is a revamped toolbar, allowing users to customize it with more than four options, and the voice search button can finally be removed.

The circle and arrow in the present version only reveal or hide four customisable features. A fourth shortcut will be added due to the button’s shift to a four-square design and the removal of the three-dot menu, reported GSM Arena.

The micro-menu of features is also redesigned, leaving room for more customizations to arrive in the future. Instead of six circles taking up all the place, we will have rectangles.

Google is also working on a new Privacy menu within Gboard’s settings. It is mostly featured from the Advanced menu, but is now under a new tab, making it easier to navigate and control the privacy features of the keyboard app.

As per GSM Arena, the Beta program is open for everyone through Google Play, and the new version is 12.6.06.491625702.

Cost cutting measures around the world help Top Indian IT firms gain ground

Cost cutting measures around the world help Top Indian IT firms gain ground

India’s top IT services companies are gaining ground by grabbing large and mega deals in specific sectors like banking, financial services and insurance (BFSI), reported Financial Express (FE).

IT firms across the globe have taken steps to optimise costs in the current uncertain economic environment, said the report.

Last week, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), country’s largest IT services firm, announced an over £600-million (about $723-million) contract with Group, UK’s largest long-term savings and retirements provider, to digitally transform the latter’s ReAssure business using the BaNCS-based platform. The deal is an expansion of TCS’s long-standing partnership with the Group, reported FE.

The report underlined that deals of more than $100 million are considered large deals among IT companies. Deals of more than $500 million in value are considered mega deals. For TCS, such mega deals are coming back to the firm after four years.

In 2018, signed a contract worth more than $2 billion in revenues with Transamerica, a leading provider of life insurance, retirement and investment solutions with an aim to transform the administration of its US insurance and annuity business line. The very same year, expanded a deal with UK-based insurer M&G Prudential taking the deal value to over $1.2 billion in 10 years, the report added.

“There will be some large deal initiatives as the current macroeconomic situation develops and clients want to optimise costs as well as provider consolidation strategies mature, similar to the pandemic where we saw a one-time increase in large deals. This is likely to be triggered by account or industry-specific issues and not a change in deal trends for the long term…We see BFSI firms often taking significant measures in a recession or financial downturn to optimise costs,” Nitish Mittal, partner, Europe Technology Practice, Everest Group was quoted as saying in the report.

signed 32 large deals whose total contract value stands at $3.3 billion in Q3, the numbers are at their highest in the last eight quarters, said the report.

Talking about the future growth of the company, Salil Parekh, CEO and MD, Infosys, said “We see good traction of large deals, and we have seen more and more relevance, connect with our clients on the cost efficiency and automation plays,” the report elaborated.

has also signed 11 large deals recently with a total contract value beyond $1 million during Q3. “Our pipeline of large deals is both strong, and diversified…Our large deals include new and existing clients seeking a transformation partner, or going through vendor consolidation,” Thierry Delaporte, CEO and MD, said in the post earnings call, reported FE.

Samsung rolls out One UI 5.1 to current Galaxy devices with new S23 series

Samsung rolls out One UI 5.1 to current Galaxy devices with new S23 series

on Wednesday announced to rollout One UI 5.1 globally to current devices starting with the S22 series, Z Fold4, Z Flip4, S21 series, and S20 series, alongside the newly announced S23 series.

Software updates for additional Galaxy devices, including the Galaxy Z Fold3 and Z Flip3, will be available in the coming weeks, said the company.

“Over the past several weeks, we have worked closely with our service providers and carrier partners to bring One UI 5.1 to current Galaxy smartphones and tablets around the world within a few short weeks of the Galaxy S23 series announcement,” Janghyun Yoon, EVP and Senior Executive, Software Office, said in a statement.

With One UI 5.1, Galaxy users will now have greater flexibility to create professional quality photos with Expert RAW features — now available directly as part of the Galaxy Camera app.

Additionally, the enhanced AI-based Photo Remaster feature will automatically improve deteriorated details of images by improving brightness, fine-tuning details, and making colour corrections even in backlit scenes. It will also remove unwanted shadows and reflections for a picture-perfect photo.

Moreover, the company also introduced new features that can understand how devices are used and make recommendations accordingly.

The new “dynamic weather widget” will analyse current conditions and create a custom design that reflects the climate.

One UI 5.1 also enhances the “Smart Suggestions” widget by allowing it to recommend Spotify tracks and playlists based on the user’s activities, such as music for road trips or relaxing, according to the company.

“Modes and Routines” have expanded to enable custom wallpapers, ringtones, touch sensitivity, and fonts that can personalise specific activities for even more convenience.
