With iPhone 16 series, Apple makes it easy to remove and replace components

Apple Diagnostics for Self Service Repair

Apple has reportedly made it easier to remove and replace several components of the new iPhone 16 models, enhancing their repairability compared to previous generations. According to a report by Engadget, Apple has improved the ease of battery and TrueDepth camera replacements for FaceID in the iPhone 16.

The report indicates that Apple has implemented a new “ionic liquid battery adhesive” in the iPhone 16 series, allowing the battery to detach from its enclosure when a low-voltage electrical current is applied. This innovation makes battery removal faster and more secure than in earlier models.

Additionally, the TrueDepth camera, which is essential for FaceID, can now be swapped between units without compromising security and privacy. To support this, Apple has enabled on-device TrueDepth camera configuration for iPhone 12 and newer models, eliminating the need for Mac connectivity.

Earlier this week, 9To5Mac reported that with iOS 18 on the iPhone 16 series, Apple is allowing users to recover and restore firmware wirelessly using another iPhone 16 model. Previously, a Mac or PC was required to address firmware-related issues.

While these changes enhance the repairability of new iPhones, Apple has also expanded its “Apple Diagnostics for Self Service Repair” software to all iPhones running iOS 18. This software enables users to test parts on their iPhone that may require repair, ensuring optimal functionality and performance. However, this feature is currently limited to select regions.

Earlier this year, Apple updated its iPhone repair policies, allowing customers and independent repair providers to use genuine new and used Apple parts. The company also permits service providers to utilise third-party parts for iPhone repairs. However, there may be instances where these parts fail to calibrate properly with Apple’s cloud servers. In such cases, the iPhone will attempt to activate the part and operate it to its full capability.

Alongside India, Apple assembles iPhone 16 in Brazil and China: Know more

Alongside India, Apple assembles iPhone 16 in Brazil and China: Know more

In addition to India, Apple is reportedly assembling iPhone 16 models in Brazil and China. According to a report by 9To5Mac, citing MacMagazine, regulatory filings for the iPhone 16 in Brazil have confirmed that Apple is assembling the device in India, China, and Brazil.

Apple has previously assembled iPhones in Brazil, but this marks the first time the company is producing a new iPhone model in Brazil from day one. According to the report, Apple’s manufacturing partner Foxconn has been tasked with assembling the base iPhone 16 model at its São Paulo facility.

Foxconn has also recently confirmed that it has begun assembling the Pro and Pro Max models of the new iPhone 16 series in India, marking the first time Apple’s premium flagship models are being assembled outside China. The company has been manufacturing iPhones in India since 2021, with iPhone 13 models reaching stores within a few months of their launch. The gap has narrowed, as last year’s made-in-India iPhone 15 model was available in stores from day one.

However, the made-in-India iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max models are not expected to be available from launch day. Bloomberg reported that Foxconn could start assembling them “within weeks of their launch.” The report also stated that after Foxconn, Apple’s other partners in India, such as Pegatron and Tata Group, would begin assembling the iPhone 16 Pro models in the country.

Even with local assembly, most iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max units produced in India are expected to be exported to markets like Europe, West Asia, and the United States, due to the comparatively lower domestic demand for high-end iPhone models in India.

HTC announces gaming-centric Vive Focus Vision VR headset: Check details: Technology news

HTC announces gaming-centric Vive Focus Vision VR headset: Check details: Technology news

Taiwan-based virtual reality gear maker HTC has announced the launch of its new VR headset, the HTC Vive Focus Vision. This headset expands on the HTC Vive Focus 3, launched in 2021, and includes features such as colour passthrough and improved PC tethering support.

The HTC Vive Focus Vision can be connected to a PC via USB-C or function as a standalone device. Like the Vive Focus 3, the headset is powered by a Snapdragon XR2 chip, features a resolution of 2448 x 2448 per eye, and offers a 120-degree field of view. New features include dual 16MP cameras with colour passthrough and automatic lens adjustments based on the distance between users’ eyes.

The Focus Vision includes 128GB of storage (with a microSD slot for up to 2TB more) and 12GB of RAM. It also features a built-in battery that can power the headset for up to 20 minutes, allowing users to replace the main power pack if its approximately two-hour battery life is depleted.

To enhance its gaming capabilities, HTC has incorporated foveated rendering, which directs graphical resources to the area users are looking at, rather than distributing them across the entire field of view. Additionally, the VR headset supports DisplayPort via USB-C, providing a lossless connection when connected to a PC. Following an update later this year, DisplayPort tethering will enable the display’s refresh rate to increase from the standard 90Hz to 120Hz.

According to HTC, the device features a new fan that draws 30 per cent more air for improved cooling. The Vive Focus Vision headset is compatible with all Focus 3 accessories. HTC’s Vive XR Elite, launched last year, also offered colour passthrough video, but it utilises lower resolution screens than the Vision.
