ChatGPT owner OpenAI gets into top 50 global sites as visits hit 672 mn

OpenAI, the developer of ChatGPT, has seen traffic up by 3,572 per cent to its site, from 18.3 million to 672 million visits since ChatGPT’s release in late November.

According to SimilarWeb data, over the last 28 days, OpenAI has become the 44th globally-ranked website.

Over the last month, there were around 73.9 million visits from India and the US, representing about 11 per cent of all traffic.

Other main countries that have visitors to the site are France, Canada, and Germany.

“SimilarWeb traffic shows that OpenAI is quickly becoming one of the biggest websites in the world after going viral,” a digital adoption spokesperson said.

“While ChatGPT has been tipped as the ‘next Google’, we know that Google is creating a rival chatbot, Bard, to fend off any competition, which is rumoured to be announced in the coming days,” it added.

ChatGPT drives over 92 per cent of total website traffic.

As of now, OpenAI is the number one technology website in the Computers Electronics and Technology category, overtaking Zoom, AOL and AT&T, the study mentioned.

There are currently 24 million average daily visits to OpenAI.com due to ChatGPT.

Globally, ChatGPT is the fastest-growing app currently, according to investment bank UBS, which reported the chatbot reached 100 million monthly active users by January.

Apple cuts iPhone 14 models prices by up to 5 in China to boost sales

Apple cuts iPhone 14 models prices by up to $125 in China to boost sales

Apple has drastically cut prices of iPhone 14 models by up to $125 (850 yuan) in China to boost sales after it reported revenue decline in the holiday quarter, the media reported on Tuesday.

According to South China Morning Post, Apple’s online stores on e-commerce platform JD.com showed a markdown of 800 yuan for iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max models, with an additional 50 yuan off if the buyer became a member of the online store.

That works out to a 10.6 per cent discount on the 7,999 yuan price of the 128-GB iPhone 14 Pro.

Retail stores are also offering price cuts ranging from 600 to 800 yuan on most popular iPhone 14 models.

“Local Shenzhen retail chain Sundan offered a 650-yuan price cut and has run out of inventory for both the Pro and Pro Max models with large storage,” the report said, quoting an employee.

However, the prices of iPhone 14 models remained unchanged on Apple’s official website and offline stores in China.

Apple reported $65.8 billion in revenue for iPhones in the holiday quarter, down 8 per cent (year-over-year).

However, on a constant currency basis, iPhone revenue was roughly flat.

Apple faced supply chain disruptions in October and November as China faced Covid surge and protests erupted at its key supplier Foxconn’s main factory in the country.

Apple CEO Tim Cook said that Covid-related challenges “significantly impacted the supply of iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max and lasted through most of December”.

“Because of these constraints, we had significantly less iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max supply than we planned, causing ship times to extend far beyond what we had anticipated,” he said during the company’s earnings call.

Cook said that as a result of a challenging environment, “our revenue was down 5 per cent year over year”.

Streaming platform ‘Twitch’ announces new ‘Chat History’ feature

Streaming platform ‘Twitch’ announces new ‘Chat History’ feature

Streaming platform Twitch has announced that it is rolling out a new ‘Chat History’ feature which will make it easier for viewers to “catch up” what is happening on the streamer’s channel.

The company tweeted from its @TwitchSupport account on Monday: “Starting today we’ll be rolling out Chat History for everyone! Catch up with what’s happening on the channel – chat will load the last 50 messages or last hour of chat, whichever is less.”

On the post, when one user commented, “(Assuming I’m not dumb and understand this properly). So someone who’s just come into the stream will have the last 50/last hour of chat available to read and know anything they missed, cus that is awesome.”

To this, the platform replied: “You understand this perfectly, only thing to add it’s last 50 messages or last hour, whichever is less. For example, if a chat has 80 messages sent in the last hour, the latest 50 will be shown, not all 80.”

Moreover, the company mentioned that the new feature will roll out over the next few days, so “don’t panic if you can’t see it yet.”

In November last year, Twitch had introduced a new ‘Shield Mode’ tool to strengthen safety on the streaming platform, along with two new features.

In a blogpost, the company had said that the Shield Mode is different from other safety tools on the platform as it combines and levels up existing safety tools in one place.

WhatsApp announces ‘Voice Status’, ‘Status Reactions’ features globally

WhatsApp announces ‘Voice Status’, ‘Status Reactions’ features globally

Meta-owned messaging platform on Tuesday announced new features coming to its status, including ‘Voice Status’, ‘Status Reactions’ and much more.

The new features have started rolling out to users globally and will be available to everyone in the coming weeks, the company said in a statement.

The ‘Voice Status’ feature allows users to record and share voice messages for up to 30 seconds on status.

On the other hand, ‘Status Reactions’ allows users to give a quick and easy way to respond to status updates from their friends and close contacts.

“This was the #1 feature users wanted, following the launch of Reactions last year. You can now quickly reply to any status by swiping up and tapping on one of eight emojis. You can of course still reply to a status with text, voice message, stickers and more,” the platform said.

The company also introduced other features including ‘Private Audience Selector’, ‘Status Profile Rings for New Updates’ and ‘Link Previews on Status’.

With the ‘Private Audience Selector’, users can update their privacy settings per status so that they can choose who views their status each time they update it.

Moreover, the most recent audience selection will be used as the default for the users’ next status.

“With the new status profile ring you’ll never miss a status from a loved one. This ring will be present around your contact’s profile picture whenever they share a status update. It will be visible in the chat lists, group participant lists, and contact info,” the platform said.

Now when users post a link on their status, they will see a visual preview of the link content, similar to when users send a message, thanks to the ‘Link Previews on Status’ feature.

“Status is a popular way to share ephemeral updates with friends and close contacts on . They disappear in 24 hours and may include photos, videos, GIFs, text, and more,” the company said.

“Just like your personal chats and calls, your WhatsApp status is protected by end-to-end encryption so you can share privately and securely,” it added.
