Fortnite returns to India for Android users after 6 years of absence

Fortnite returns to India for Android users after 6 years of absence

Fortnite has finally returned to Google’s Play Store in India for Android users after a long wait of almost six years. Epic Games’ battle royale game is now available with a download size of 314MB. For the uninitiated, Fortnite was first released in 2017 but, since 2020, it has been delisted from the Play Store due to Epic Games’ legal battle with Google over the in-app payment system.

Additionally, a new season named Fortnite Showdown is set to go live today. Epic Games said that in this new season, gamers will get to challenge other players as their rivals, wield new weapons, join the showdown between the Foundation and the Ice King, and drive the Battle Bus.

What is Fortnite

Fortnite is an online multiplayer title developed by Epic Games, first released in 2017. It is best known for its battle royale mode, where up to 100 players drop into a single map and compete until only one player or team remains. While the game includes multiple modes, the battle royale experience continues to be its primary draw. Its gameplay blends third-person shooting with a real-time building mechanic, allowing players to create structures for defence or tactical advantage during fights.

Alongside its core gameplay, Fortnite receives frequent updates that introduce new seasons, content drops and limited-time events. These updates are often tied to collaborations with major entertainment franchises, which have played a key role in keeping the game relevant and widely popular, particularly among younger audiences.

Epic Games vs Google explained

The conflict between Epic Games and Google goes back to August 2020, when Epic Games rolled out its own in-app payment system in Fortnite, effectively sidestepping Google Play’s billing rules. Google responded by pulling the game from the Play Store, citing policy violations. This move triggered a lawsuit from Epic Games, which argued that Google was using its monopolistic control over Android distribution and payments to limit fair competition, despite the platform technically allowing sideloading.

While Google went on to settle similar antitrust complaints with other parties through limited changes, Epic Games chose to continue the legal battle, seeking broader reforms instead of a monetary settlement. In December 2023, a US federal jury ruled in Epic Games’ favour, concluding that Google had engaged in monopolistic behaviour. The decision required Google to permit third-party app stores within the Play Store, remove certain revenue-sharing advantages and allow developers to direct users to alternative payment methods.

Google appealed the ruling, but on July 31, 2025, the appeals court upheld the verdict, strengthening Epic Games’ position. This outcome cleared the path for Fortnite and the Epic Games Store to return to the Play Store without earlier restrictions. However, the rollout was gradual, with the game taking several months to reappear in the US, followed by a longer delay in other markets. It has now finally returned to India.

Notably, Fortnite had also been removed from the Apple App Store during the same dispute, although it was reinstated for iOS users in May last year.

Krafton releases BGMI 4.3 update with Ancient Secret Rise mode: Details

Krafton releases BGMI 4.3 update with Ancient Secret Rise mode: Details

The BGMI 4.3 update has been released, bringing back the Ancient Secret Rise theme mode while also introducing a redesigned in-game interface as part of what Krafton describes as a major overhaul of Battlegrounds Mobile India. The update also adds new content tied to IPL franchises such as the Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders, alongside additional gameplay systems and collaborations.

Ancient Secret mode returns

At the centre of the update is the return of the Ancient Secret Rise theme mode, which had previously gained traction among players through community voting. The mode introduces themed locations and gameplay elements tied to its ancient setting, along with combat mechanics designed specifically around the mode.

Krafton said the theme mode is aimed at adding variety to the core battle royale experience while also offering opportunities for community engagement and content creation within the game.

All-new BGMI interface

Alongside the themed gameplay, BGMI 4.3 brings a complete redesign of the in-game interface. Referred to by the company as “All New BGMI”, the update rebuilds the game’s UI with a more modern visual style, cleaner layouts and simplified navigation.

The redesign includes larger visual tiles, clearer menu structures and updated graphics aimed at making the game easier to navigate for new players, while retaining depth for existing users. Visual elements such as lighting, colours and iconography have also been refreshed to offer a more distinct look.

New card-based progression system

The update also introduces a Card Collection system, adding a new layer of progression outside traditional gameplay. Players can earn cards through missions, events and crates, and use them to unlock rewards, including upgradeable weapon skins.

The system allows players to trade cards, dismantle duplicates for in-game items and build collections tied to different themes. According to Krafton, the feature is designed to encourage long-term engagement and participation across different game modes.

Collaborations and cosmetic additions

BGMI 4.3 expands in-game collaborations with both Indian and global partnerships. The update introduces content linked to the Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders, including themed outfits, vehicle skins and dedicated in-game locations where players can interact with franchise-themed elements.

Krafton said the Chennai Super Kings content will go live from March 21, followed by Kolkata Knight Riders on March 25.

Other additions include collaborations with the Jujutsu Kaisen franchise and Apollo Sportscar, along with new and returning X-Suits such as Phoenixtra and Dark Raven.

Perplexity Comet AI browser is now available on iPhone

Perplexity’s AI browser, Comet, is now available on iPhones. As per the App Store listing, Comet is an AI-powered browser designed to act as a personal assistant and thinking partner. Perplexity said that the AI-powered browser adapts to how users think and work, and learns habits to help keep them organised. Comet AI browser was released in November last year and is already available on Mac, Windows and Android. It is now rolling out for iPhones running iOS 18 or newer versions.

What is Perplexity’s Comet AI browser

Perplexity describes Comet as a “browser for agentic search”, built to handle multi-step tasks with minimal input from users. Instead of relying only on traditional search queries, Comet uses Perplexity’s AI-powered search engine to generate responses by compiling information from across the web.

Agentic search refers to systems capable of interpreting intent, gathering information from multiple locations and performing chained actions autonomously.

Perplexity’s Comet AI browser: Features

Perplexity said that Comet moves browsing beyond simple page viewing to a more interactive, conversation-driven experience. It is said to bring everything into a single interface that understands user intent, reducing the need to switch between multiple tabs or separate apps. It can handle entire browsing sessions, helping organise tasks, simplify workflows and reduce interruptions, including ads.

The browser is positioned as being useful for comparing products, conducting research or working through more complicated queries. A side-panel assistant can generate page summaries, respond to questions and carry out actions such as booking hotels, sending emails or completing online purchases. There is also an integrated assistant that delivers context-aware responses based on whatever content is currently displayed on the screen.
