Samsung Galaxy Tab S10 series: What to expect

The upcoming Samsung Galaxy Tab S10 series is expected to be available in two sizes: a 12.4-inch model and a 14.6-inch Ultra model. Samsung is anticipated to eliminate the smaller 11-inch model from the line-up this year. Both the standard and Ultra models are expected to resemble their predecessors, with minor design changes. The Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra is likely to feature a notch design on the top in landscape orientation to house dual front-facing cameras and will come with slightly slimmer bezels.

According to a report by Android Authority, Samsung plans to use MediaTek chips to power all upcoming Galaxy Tab S10 devices, likely the MediaTek Dimensity 9300 Plus chip. This contradicts previous reports suggesting a dual-chip strategy that would involve using Samsung’s own Exynos chips in certain regions.

Additionally, Samsung is reportedly planning to include a dedicated Galaxy AI key on Bluetooth keyboards and folio cases for the Galaxy Tab S10 series, similar to the Copilot button on new Windows laptops.

Lenovo to build AI servers in India as nation's tech push deepens

By Saritha Rai

Lenovo Group Ltd. started building AI servers in India’s south, the latest boon for the rapidly growing country’s push to become a high-tech powerhouse.

The company said Tuesday it has started making the large, powerful computers in Pondicherry, southeastern India, moving beyond products such as laptops and smartphones. The Chinese company will also build out its facilities in the Bangalore region, including a research lab with a focus on artificial intelligence.

Lenovo’s plans mark another win for India as Prime Minister Narendra Modi tries to attract more technology investment into the country. While India’s tense relationship with China has suffered setbacks in recent years, global tech companies see it as an attractive option to build out operations as Beijing and Washington are mired in a trade war.

The servers perform the computations needed to run services including generative AI, made famous by apps such as ChatGPT. The addition of AI servers means Lenovo will make its entire stack of hardware in India for the domestic as well as export markets, underscoring the country’s importance for the company.

While India’s tech manufacturing sector is still small compared with China, it has been catching up and now makes increasingly sophisticated products such as iPhones. AI servers represent another milestone, showing India can offer an alternative to regions with more established high-end manufacturing industries.

Taiwan currently produces the bulk of the world’s AI servers, which are used by technology giants such as Amazon.com Inc., Microsoft Corp. and Nvidia Corp. But with geopolitical tensions on the rise between China and the West, companies are under pressure to shift manufacturing outside Taiwan. Demand for generative AI tools and applications has sent the need for related hardware soaring, with electronics manufacturer Foxconn Technology Group last year predicting that annual sales of AI servers could touch $150 billion by 2027.

watchOS 11 brings sleep apnea detection to Apple Watch Series 9, Ultra 2: technology news

watchOS 11 brings sleep apnea detection to Apple Watch Series 9, Ultra 2: technology news

Sleep Apnea detection on watchOS 11

Apple has begun rolling out watchOS 11 to eligible Apple Watches, alongside the iOS 18 update for iPhones. The new operating system introduces several features, most notably Sleep Apnea detection. While the Apple Watch Series 10 will come with watchOS 11 pre-installed, the platform upgrade also brings Sleep Apnea detection to select older-generation models, including the Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2.

watchOS 11: Sleep Apnea detection

Apple’s Sleep Apnea detection feature for eligible Apple Watches uses sleep tracking data collected over 10 nights within a 30-day period to determine if the user has the condition. Sleep Apnea causes a person to momentarily stop breathing during sleep, increasing the risk of hypertension, Type 2 diabetes, and other health-related conditions. The detection feature employs an accelerometer on the Apple Watch to monitor wrist movements associated with interruptions in normal respiratory patterns.

Apple stated that the feature can notify users if it identifies signs of sleep apnea. Notifications include the time period when potential sleep apnea occurred, as well as a PDF providing three months of breathing disturbance data, which is crucial for seeking a formal diagnosis from a healthcare provider.

While Sleep Apnea detection is part of watchOS 11, it is only available on the Watch Series 9, Watch Ultra 2, and the newly launched Watch Series 10. Older generation models receiving the new OS update will not have access to this feature.

watchOS 11: Details and features

The new operating system for Apple Watches brings several features, including a new Training Load metric that compares workout intensity and duration with previous sessions, allowing users to assess their body strain. Activity Rings on the Apple Watch can now be paused for a set duration, enabling users to take breaks. Additionally, there is a new Vitals app that provides users with a daily health status overview, including overnight health metrics at a glance.

Other notable features include enhanced support during pregnancy, a more personalised Smart Stack, new watch faces, a Translate app for the Watch, and the ability to scroll through any app using a double tap gesture on supported models.

watchOS 11 is available on Apple Watch Series 6 and later models and requires an iPhone Xs or later running on iOS 18.

Technology news: Google could enable notification syncing across Android devices: Report

Technology news: Google could enable notification syncing across Android devices: Report

Android apps typically show notifications separately on each device they are installed on, failing to register when a notification has been viewed on one device. Consequently, notifications that have been seen by the user on one device reappear as unread on another. This occurs because the status of notifications is not synced across devices.

Google appears to be planning to eliminate duplicate notifications. According to Android Authority, the company might be working on a solution to this issue, as suggested by code discovered in the most recent Android 15 QPR1 Beta 2 update released last week.

According to the report, a reference to a “sync across devices” feature was found while examining the latest update. This option is reportedly set to appear under Settings, specifically within Notification, alongside “sensitive notifications” and the new “notification cooldown” feature. The location of the class controlling the “sync across devices” option also suggests that notifications may indeed be synced across devices.

According to Android Authority, the new syncing option could lead to the creation of a new page in the Google Play Services app focused on synchronising notifications across Android devices. Although there is no official confirmation, the feature is expected to be available across the Android ecosystem, not limited to Pixel devices.

This potential feature would enhance the Android experience, making it more seamless and user-friendly while preventing the hassle of repeatedly viewing the same notification.
