The study included 2,454 patients from the US and 11 other countries. From August 2021 to February 2022, these participants sent over 1,25,000 ECGs via their .


These results were then “scrubbed and processed via a proprietary AI algorithm developed by the researchers”, according to the report.


By using the mean prediction within a 30-day window or the closest ECG relative to the echocardiogram that determined the EF, the AI algorithm detected patients with a low EF (ejection fraction) with an area under the curve of 0.885 (95 per cent confidence interval 0.823-0.946) and 0.881 (0.815-0.947), said the report.


The findings showed that “consumer-watch ECGs acquired in nonclinical environments can identify patients with cardiac dysfunction”.


The study also infers that “the potential of smartwatches to assist with conducting remote digital health studies is just in the beginning phases”.

American technology company Intel on November 14 unveiled the FakeCatcher, its deepfake detection platform. The company said it is the world’s first real-time deepfake detector, which can detect fake videos in milliseconds with a 96 per cent accuracy rate. “Deepfake videos are everywhere now. You have probably already seen them; videos of celebrities doing or saying things they never actually did.” said Ilke Demir, Senior staff research scientist, Intel Labs.


What is a deepfake


Deepfake is essentially a video in which a person’s face or body has been digitally altered so that they appear to be someone else. Deception due to deepfakes can cause harm and mislead people, resulting in negative consequences like diminished trust in the media. It’s tough to detect these deepfake videos in real time as the detection apps take a lot of time for uploading videos for analysis, then hours for results.


How Intel’s tech works to identify deepfake


It runs on a server using Intel hardware and software, and interfaces through a web-based platform. On the software side, a collection of specialist tools form the optimised FakeCatcher architecture, which the real-time platform uses to detect deepfake. On the hardware side, the real-time detection platform can run up to 72 different detection streams simultaneously on 3rd Gen Intel Xeon Scalable processors.


“Unlike, Most of the deep learning-based detectors, which look at raw data to try to find signs of inauthenticity and identify what is wrong with a video. FakeCatcher looks for authentic clues in real videos. It assesses what makes us human – subtle blood flow in the pixels of a video. These blood flow signals are collected from all over the face and algorithms translate these signals into spatiotemporal maps. Then, using deep learning, it can instantly detect whether a video is real or fake.” said Intel in a statement.

FakeCatcher helps restore trust by enabling users to distinguish between real and fake content. Intel suggests that there are several potential uses of FakeCatcher. Social media platforms can leverage the technology to prevent users from uploading harmful deepfake videos. Global news organizations can use the detector to avoid accidentally spreading manipulated videos. And, nonprofit organisations can employ the platform to democratize detection of deepfakes for everyone.

Reliance Jio announces rollout of ‘True 5G’ service in Delhi, NCR cities

Users living in these areas will get the invite to join the Jio Welcome Offer on the My Jio app. The company has also launched a special 5G welcome offer for all its users giving unlimited data at up to 1Gbps speeds, at no additional fee. Earlier, Jio was not offering any dedicated 5G plan for invitees. Media reports had suggested Jio was sending the free 5G services invite to only those users who had the Rs 239 or higher plans.


Lakhs of Jio users in Delhi-NCR are already using the Jio Welcome Offer, the company said. It added this was possible given its stand-alone 5G architecture which does not depend on existing 4G networks.


Jio also said it has the largest and best mix of 5G spectrum across 700 MHz, 3500 MHz, and 26 GHz bands. The company has particularly pointed out successful carrier aggregation also ensuring seamless service. Carrier Aggregation is an advanced technology that combines these 5G frequencies into a single robust “data highway”.

By turning on the “Accessible Places” setting in the app, users can see a wheelchair icon on the business profile if it has a wheelchair accessible entrance. The same icon will appear with a strikethrough if it’s a wheelchair non-accessible place. Users can also find out if the place has accessible seating, restrooms and parking.
