WhatsApp tests new feature to flag calls missed due to DND service: Details

Meta-owned messaging platform is reportedly rolling out a new update called ‘Do Not Disturb’ mode support for missed calls to some beta testers through the Google Play beta programme.

The new update will let users know if they have missed a call due to DND mode.

Users will see a handy tagline right under the missed call history item indicating that the call was silenced by Do Not Disturb, according to Police.

Users will also see a similar blurb when they punch up the person’s chat thread.

With the introduction of this feature, it will let users share the screenshot of the indicator with the caller to let them know that the call was not intentionally ignored as it was put on the DND mode.

The most recent update for beta is available in the Play Store for some beta testers, according to the report.

Meanwhile, back in June, had introduced new features for group voice calls, like muting and messaging participants along with banner notifications while in a group call.

When someone new joins a group voice call and is offscreen, users will see a banner notification saying, “X joined the call”.

Also, the users can mute others on a group voice call. The feature will avoid listening to accidental background chatter while the users try to hear something another person is saying.

Key staff driving Apple search engine leaves, rejoins Google: Report

Key staff driving Apple search engine leaves, rejoins Google: Report

Four years after Apple acquired Laserlike to boost its web search technology, the founders have quit to rejoin .

‘Laserlike’ is a startup founded by a trio of former search engineers to recommend websites to people based on their interests and browsing history.

According to AppleInsider, Anand Shukla, Srinivasan Venkatachary and Steven Baker were all employees before founding Laserlike in 2015. Their work at Apple is one of the reasons the company is predicted to launch its own search engine similar to Google’s.

Laserlike was acquired by Apple in 2018, but the deal was not made public until the following year. The company’s three founders were acquired as part of the deal, and they eventually led a 200-person search team at Apple.

Srinivasan Venkatachary has now returned to Google, and is reportedly the company’s new vice president of engineering, according to a media report.

Venkatachary reports to James Manyika, senior vice president of technology and society. Baker and Shukla are now both on Manyika’s team.

However, it’s unclear whether all three left Apple at the same time, or if Venkatachary is the most recent departure, said the report.

Rumours of Apple developing its own search engine gained traction following the release of iOS 14 in 2020.

Siri suggestions were then reportedly being routed through Apple’s Spotlight search service, rather than being passed on to Google, the report added.

Google Pixel 7a smartphone to come with screen of 90Hz refresh rate: Report

Google Pixel 7a smartphone to come with screen of 90Hz refresh rate: Report

It seems like has fixed the biggest complaint that the Pixel 6a smartphone had regarding its refresh rate as new reports suggest that the company’s upcoming Pixel 7a device will pack a FullHD+ 90Hz panel, sourced from Samsung.

According to GSM Arena, this revelation comes from developer Kuba Wojciechowski, who also dug through the camera drivers and found that Pixel 7a’s camera setup is called the “Pixel 22 Mid-range.”

The Pixel 7a, codenamed “lynx,” was initially reported to have a rear camera setup comprising GN1, IMX787, and IMX712 sensors. However, the GN1 sensor is removed from the code, and there are only two sensors now, referred to as “l10_wide” (IMX787) and “l10_UW” (IMX712).

That means the Pixel 7a’s primary camera will use the IMX787 sensor, while the ultrawide unit will use the IMX712 sensor, reported GSM Arena.

The Pixel 6a also came with two rear cameras, but the use of a better sensor for the primary camera (IMX363 vs. IMX787) on the 7a should translate to better photos.

As per GSM Arena, the Pixel 7a will also support wireless charging, which wasn’t supported by its predecessor. However, its charging speed will be limited to just 5W.

Google to release Nest WiFi Pro update next week to fix slow internet speed

Google to release Nest WiFi Pro update next week to fix slow internet speed

will release a software update for the new Nest Wifi Pro early next week to address the slow Internet speeds being experienced by some users.

Sanjay Noronha, Nest Wifi’s product lead said that “the company is currently investigating reports of a small number of users experiencing reduced Internet speeds on Nest Wifi Pro routers, and that its teams are working to roll out a fix,” as reported by The Verge.

launched the Nest Wifi Pro mesh router last month, touting support for faster Wi-Fi 6E, which is capable of speeds of up to 5.4Gbps.

It also adds a 6GHz band to help reduce network congestion and automatically adjusts “network performance to minimise disruptions.”

However, many users reported on the Google Nest community forum about an issue causing capped download and upload speeds ranging anywhere from 40Mbps to 90Mbps.

Users said their old Nest Wifi Pro, which only supports Wi-Fi 5, outperformed the new device, according to a media report.

These issues do not affect everyone who purchased the new router, though.

As confirmed by Google, it primarily affected the users in the UK who used point-to-point protocol over ethernet (PPPoE) networks.

Many digital subscriber lines (DSL) providers use this system, which requires users to configure their router with a username and password before they can connect to the Internet, according to the report.

Based on the reports on the forum, the issue has also been reported to be affecting users in the US and other parts of Europe, as well as those with fiber, the report added.

Elon Musk now lays off 4,400 contractual workers at Twitter: Report

According to reports from Platformer and Axios, the micro-blogging platform is now laying off employees those are on contract.

“Contractors aren’t being notified at all, they’re just losing access to Slack and email. Managers figured it out when their workers just disappeared from the system,” tweeted Platformer’s Casey Newton.

“They heard nothing from their leaders,” he posted.

Neither Musk nor reacted to the new wave of layoffs that startedAAover the weekend.

Many found out they weren’t working for the company anymore after they abruptly lost access to Twitter’s internal systems.

“One of my contractors just got deactivated without notice in the middle of making critical changes to our child safety workflows,” one manager posted in the company’s internal Slack messaging platform.

Following Twitter’s earlier layoffs, many contractors ended up on teams with no full-time staff, leaving no one to sign off on their time sheets, Engadget reported.
