In a bid to deepen customer engagement and promote linguistic inclusivity, Indian Overseas Bank has unveiled a new Tamil-language basic PIN generation portal called ‘Akshara.’ This initiative aims to provide customers with a more secure method for creating and managing their PINs for their debit /credit card and mobile apps.
Traditional PINs, often based on easily guessable information like birthdates or sequential numbers, pose security risks. Recognizing this, Indian Overseas Bank’s new portal allows users to generate PINs using Tamil words or phrases that are personally meaningful yet difficult for fraudsters to predict.
Customers interested in utilizing the new Tamil-language PIN generation portal Akshara can access it through Indian Overseas Bank’s official website. The move aligns with the Bank’s broader vision of harnessing technology to deliver customer-centric solutions that resonate with India’s diverse cultural and linguistic heritage, a statement said.
“At Indian Overseas Bank, we believe that technology should serve as a bridge, not a barrier. By introducing the PIN generation facility in Tamil, we are not only embracing the power of digital banking but also honouring the linguistic preferences of our valued customers. This is a meaningful stride towards accessible and inclusive banking,” Ajay Kumar Srivastava, MD and CEO, Indian Overseas Bank said in the statement.
By moving away from predictable numeric PINs, the portal reduces the risk of unauthorized access due to common PIN choices. It also ensures that native speakers can navigate and use the system with ease. Users can select words or phrases that are significant to them, which will generate PINs easier to remember without compromising security, IOB adds.
