Mahindra Holidays & Resorts India Ltd (MHRIL) is introducing luxury resorts at leisure locations as a part of a new strategy to target growth.
While the company will continue to scale up its existing vacation ownership business, the new Mahindra Signature Resorts brand will operate like conventional hotels.
2,000 keys
MHRIL is targeting 2,000 keys under the Signature brand by FY30 and planning an investment of around ₹1,000 crore to develop the luxury properties, the company said on Thursday.
At present MHRIL runs over 125 resorts across the country under a vacation ownership model. While the company has been expanding its business, growth potential in vacation ownership space is limited. This is because the segment accounts for only 8 per cent of India’s leisure hospitality market and the remaining 92 per cent comprises conventional hotels or resorts that do not rely on membership for their business.
Wider plan
As such it is launching the second brand as a part of a wider plan to grow its revenue and profit by 3x and 4x respectively in a decade.
MHRIL said the entry into leisure hospitality business will add scale and diversity to the existing business portfolio and will help in attracting fast growing categories and customers in the overall tourism sector.
MHRIL Managing Director & CEO Manoj Bhat said the company is looking at a pan India presence for its Mahindra Signature resorts and is looking at multiple destinations.
Simultaneously, the company is looking to accelerate growth in existing vacation ownership and has announced a privileged access programme with premium benefits like concierge services coupled with flexible and simple membership plans for its members. It plans to grow vacation ownership resort inventory to 10,000 keys by FY30.
“We will continue to add members and focus on member experience,” Bhat said. Club Mahindra resorts are also being rebranded as Club M as a part of refreshed identity to reflect the transformation.
