The Tamil Nadu government will soon formulate and announce a policy for climate literacy. “We are going to spread climate awareness to all sections of people through students,” said Chief Minister MK Stalin in his inaugural speech at the Tamil Nadu Climate Summit 3.0 in Chennai on Tuesday. One of the important measures on the mission is setting up eco-clubs in all schools in Tamil Nadu,” he added.

Tamil Nadu government plans to educate about climate change through education, which Stalin said is the foundation of all the dreams for the future of the State. “Our government has decided to take climate literacy forward as a mission,” he said.

Capacity building training will be imparted to government officials of various departments on climate change mitigation and adaptation. Special training will be given to agriculture and water resources which are vulnerable to climate change, he said.

The Tamil Nadu government has declared the heat wave as a state calamity and notified it in the gazette. The government also announced a compensation of ₹4 lakh in case of death due to heat waves, he said.

Climate change is the biggest challenge facing the world and human society today. The State government is creating awareness about this. Along with creating this awareness, it is also taking various steps to counter it, said Stalin.

At the function, the chief minister launched an online waste exchange bureau website, an online platform to provide info on various waste generators, availability of different wastes and recycling facilities in the state. He also released a report on Lifestyle for Climate Document.
