elangana Budget Session Today, Telangana Budget 2026-27 Live Updates: The Telangana Budget for 2026-27, to be presented by Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu today, aims to balance social welfare and economic growth across the state.
Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla, addressing the joint Assembly session, highlighted that Telangana’s per capita income has reached ₹4.18 lakh and the government is focused on achieving a $3 trillion economy under its Vision 2047 roadmap.
With urban population projected to reach 53.8% by 2031, the state is strengthening infrastructure, including the recent division of GHMC into three corporations and the Hyderabad Metropolitan Area into four commissionerates.
Telangana has emerged as an investment hub, with BioAsia 2026 attracting ₹1,700 crore and Hyderabad hosting 20% of India’s Global Capability Centres.
The IT and services sector alone has generated ₹3.13 lakh crore in exports and 9.38 lakh jobs.
Key welfare initiatives, like the Mahalakshmi Scheme providing free bus travel for women, have saved ₹9.22 crore, while the upcoming budget faces the challenge of funding new projects, including the ₹15,000 crore takeover of Hyderabad Metro.

Tax collections improve, but still trail targets
Tax revenue during the first 10 months was relatively better at ₹1.26 lakh crore, accounting for 72.04% of the ₹1.75 lakh crore budget estimate. However, it still falls short of the 85% mark. The State Government is expected to continue its efforts to secure Central support for key projects such as the Hyderabad Metro Rail expansion, Bharat Future City, and the ambitious Musi rejuvenation initiative. With Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy emphasising the need to strengthen infrastructure across education, irrigation, and transport sectors, the budget is likely to allocate significant funds, especially for irrigation, to meet the target of completing pending projects within the next three years.
The State also faces multiple spending priorities, including the payment of two instalments (Kharif 2026 and Rabi 2027) under the Rythu Bharosa scheme, estimated at ₹18,000 crore. Additionally, a substantial portion of the budget is expected to be allocated towards interest payments on loans taken by successive governments, along with salaries and pensions, which together account for nearly 40% of the State’s total revenue.

Revenue deficit widens, receipts lag targets
The revenue deficit stood at ₹10,566 crore during the period, against an estimated surplus of ₹2,738 crore. The State recorded total revenue receipts of ₹1.38 lakh crore till end-January, accounting for 60.23% of the ₹2.29 lakh crore projected for the financial year. This includes a significant level of borrowings and other liabilities, which, as per provisional figures from the Comptroller and Auditor General of India, are estimated at ₹69,148 crore.

The stage is set for the presentation of the annual financial statement (Budget) for 2026-27 on Friday (March 20, 2026).
Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, who also holds the Finance portfolio, is expected to walk a tightrope while presenting the Budget for the next financial year. The total outlay for 2025-26 stood at ₹3.04 lakh crore, and the 2026-27 Budget is likely to see a 7% increase, taking the outlay to around ₹3.2 lakh crore.
