Equity benchmark indices continued to trade lower in the mid-trading session on Monday. Kotak Mahindra Bank dragged the banking and financial stocks. Tech-heavy IT stocks dipped as investors reacted to concerns over workforce cuts at TCS. Apart from these sector-specific triggers, broader market sentiment remains weak due to Q1 earnings and ongoing uncertainty in the India‑US trade talks.
Sensex was down 348.51 pts or 0.43 per cent to 81,114.58 as at 12.49 pm, off the day’s low of 81,093.51. Nifty 50 declined by 93.20 pts or 0.38 per cent to 24,743.80.
Both midcap and smallcap slipped to negative territory, by 0.14 per cent and 0.44 per cent, respectively. In addition, the realty index fell by over 2.5 per cent. Media and private bank indices declined over 1-2 per cent.
Top gainers & losers intraday
Shares of Shriram Finance, Cipla, Grasim, Hero Motocorp and Tata Consumer Products led the gainers of Nifty 50 at the time of writing, while Kotak Mahindra Bank plunged 7 per cent.
BEL, Bharti Airtel, Titan, Nestle, Apollo Hospitals and Wipro also shed 1-2 per cent.
Nearly 1,021 stocks advanced and 1,787 declined of all the 2,906 stocks that were traded on the National Stock Exchange. Cartrade Tech, Aadhar Housing Finance, Fortis, Laurus Labs and UPL featured among 52 stocks that hit a 52-week high. EaseMyTrip, Dhanlaxmi and Tejas Network were among 41 stocks hit a 52-week low. 62 stocks hit the upper circuit and 81 stocks hit the lower circuit.
Midcap and smallcap movers
Mphasis, Ola Electric, Paytm, NTPC Green and Coforge shares led the gainers of midcap segment with 2-5 per cent uptick, and SBI Cards, Prestige, Oberoi Realty, SAIL and Godrej Properties tanked 3-5 per cent.
Under the smallcap basket, Laurus Labs rallied 7 per cent. Poonawalla, Aadhar Housing Finance soared 5 per cent. Meanwhile, Zen Tech, CDSL, Data Patterms, Brigade and Reliance Power fell 3-5 per cent.
On the BSE, Sudarshan Chemical, Cartrade Tech, STL Tech zoomed 8-14 per cent. While on the flip side, Paras Defence, Kotak, Northern Arc, SBI Cards and Home First dragged 5-10 per cent.
