Mamata Banerjee alleges police intimidation

Addressing the public at a rally in Kolkata, the TMC supremo said, “Cops are threatening our leaders. CP Chandannagar called our leader and asked him to resign; otherwise, he would be arrested. Our leaders are being arrested by police in false cases.”

Notably, Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday held a protest at Kolkata’s Rani Rashmoni Avenue over attacks on party leaders, including her nephew Abhishek Banerjee, and other issues.

She also claimed that threats were being issued to her party’s MLAs.

“MLAs are being threatened by going door to door. We have recording conversation related to an alleged attack attempt on Abhishek Banerjee, in which statements such as “maar-maar” can be heard. The residents of Sonarpur have said that goons were brought in 24 hours in advance,” IANS quoted her as saying.

Sending a defiant message against efforts to weaken her party, she said, “Those who are trying to break TMC, I would like to say, ‘Ishwar Allah Tero Naam Sabko Sanmati De Bhagwan’.”

Attack on Abhishek Banerjee

This development comes days after Mamata Banerjee’s nephew and Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Abhishek Banerjee was allegedly attacked on May 30, 2026, in Sonarpur while visiting the family of a local party worker who had died in post-poll violence.

During the visit, he was reportedly heckled by a crowd that shouted slogans and threw eggs, stones, and slippers. Amid the chaos, Banerjee was given a cricket helmet by his security personnel and party workers to protect his head.

The TMC accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of being behind the incident, while BJP leaders described it as a spontaneous expression of public anger. Following the clash, the police arrested five people in connection with the alleged attack on Abhishek Banerjee, with investigations underway.

Kalyan Banerjee also raises concerns

Meanwhile, TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee has also alleged that he survived an “attempt to murder” near Chanditala Police Station while submitting a deputation.

Earlier on Monday, Mamata Banerjee had strongly condemned the attack on her nephew Abhishek Banerjee, calling it “shocking.”

She had said, “The way you assaulted the MP of the second-largest opposition party is shocking. Doctors were called, yet hospitals were allegedly instructed not to provide treatment. What kind of absurd and authoritarian conduct is this?”
