कशेडी घाटात बर्निंग गॅस टँकरचा थरार; मुंबई-गोवा हायवे 2 तासांपासून वाहतूक ठप्प

रत्नागिरी, 29 जुलै : मुंबई गोवा महामार्गावरील कशेडी घाटात वारंवार दरड कोसळण्याने वाहतूक विस्कळीत होत आहे. मात्र, एका वेगळ्या कारणामुळे तब्बल दोन तासांपासून वाहतूक ठप्प आहे. मुंबई गोवा महामार्गावर कशेडी घाटामध्ये मुंबईहून गोव्याच्या दिशेने येणाऱ्या रिकाम्या एलपीजी गॅसच्या टँकरला अपघात होऊन टँकरला भीषण आग लागली. या अपघातामुळे महामार्गावर भीतीचे वातावरण निर्माण झाले आहे. अपघात झाल्यानंतर महाड एमआयडीसी तसेच खेड नगरपालिकेच्या अग्निशामक दलाच्या जवानांना पाचारण करण्यात आले. खेड नगरपालिकेच्या आणि महाड एमआयडीसीच्या अग्निशामक दलाच्या जवानांनी आठ वाजल्यापासून आग विझवण्याचा प्रयत्न सुरू केला आहे. या अपघातामुळे कशेडी घाटात दोन ते तीन किलोमीटर वाहनांच्या रांगा लागल्या आहेत.

कशेडी घाट ते रायगड जिल्ह्यातील पोलादपूर हे अंतर अवघ्या 10 मिनिटांत

मुंबई-गोवा महामार्गावरुन प्रवास करतांना पावसाळ्यात नेहमीच कशेडी घाटातून जीव मुठीत घेऊन प्रवास करावा लागतो. येथील वळणावळणाचा घाट आणि महामार्गावर दरड माती खाली येणे या घटना पावसाळ्यात घडत असतात त्यामुळे अपघातही होतात. यासाठी पर्यायी मार्ग म्हणून कशेडी घाटातून गेली दोन वर्ष बोगद्याचे काम सुरु होते. त्यापैकी एका बोगद्याचे काम पूर्ण झाले आहे. काही दिवसांपूर्वी राज्याचे बांधकाम मंत्री रविंद्र चव्हाण यांनी या कामाची पाहणी देखील केली होती. कशेडी बोगद्याची एक मार्गीका या महिनाअखेर खुली करण्यात येणार आहे. त्यामुळे खेड तालुक्यातील कशेडी घाट ते रायगड जिल्ह्यातील पोलादपूर हे अंतर अवघ्या 10 मिनिटांत पार होणार आहे.

मुंबई-गोवा महामार्गावरील सर्वात धोकादायक म्हणून ओळखल्या जाणाऱ्या कशेडी घाटात नेहमीच अपघात होत असतात. मुंबई गोवा महामार्गानं सिंधुदुर्गात जातान कशेडी घाट हा एक अत्यंत महत्त्वाचा टप्पा मानला जातो. सिंधुदुर्गात जाणा-या चाकरमान्यांसाठी हा इंटरव्हल आहे. कारण पनवेल पासून 150 किमीचा टप्पा या घाटात पूर्ण होतो. हा घाट उतरलो की, रत्नागिरी जिल्हा सुरू होतो. नागमोडी वळणांचा डोंगराळ भाग आणि त्यातून चौपदरी महामार्ग उभारताना बरीच आव्हानं होती. ती पार करत या बोगद्याचे काम जवळपास पूर्ण झाल्यात जमा आहे. या घाटात थांबून रवींद्र चव्हाण यांनी अखेरच्या टप्यात सुरू असलेल्या कामाची पाहणी देखील केली होती.

Most of India’s T20 World Cup 2024 Matches Will Be Played in the US: Report – News18

T20 World Cup matches in the US is scheduled to be held at Lauderhill, Florida, New York, Dallas and Morrisville.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has started inspecting the venues in the United States of America (USA) after having tentatively identified the June 4-30 window for the T20 World Cup 2024 to be jointly hosted by the West Indies and the USA.

With questions surrounding USA’s readiness to host the T20 World Cup, the ICC team this week visited the venues marked to host the matches. The inspection team checked on stadiums at Lauderhill, Florida, New York, Dallas and Morrisville.

Among them, Lauderhill has already hosted international matches and will play host to fourth and fifth T20Is between India and the West Indies on August 12 and 13.

The venues at Dallas (Grand Prairie Stadium) and Morrisville (Church Street Park) are currently hosting the Major League Cricket matches.

However, those two grounds and the Van Cortlandt Park in New York are yet to receive international venue status from the ICC, mandatory to stage top-flight cricket matches.

The venue at New York, which has a capacity of nearly 35000, has been earmarked as the host to the highly-anticipated match between India and Pakistan. The reason being considerable presence of the people from the diaspora in that region.

However, it has not been finalised as yet because the stadium is still getting readied.

But the ICC felt that it can be worked around with at the earliest.

“The ICC has support from New York City Hall and the Mayor. So, we expect the work to be completed on time. Everything is on course as most of India’s matches will be played in the US,” an ICC board member told PTI.

The 2024 edition will see participation from as many as 20 teams and the format will undergo a change as compared to the 2021 (UAE) and 2022 (Australia).

The ICC is very keen to have USA as the co-host of the T20 World Cup because the global governing body feels that it will increase cricket’s chance to be included in the Los Angeles Olympics 2028.

The ICC has already made a presentation to the Los Angeles organising committee and the International Olympic Committee (IOA) will take a call on this later this year.

Semicon India 2023: Foxconn and Others Laud PM Modi’s Semiconductor Vision for India – News18

Foxconn on Friday said it is optimistic about the direction of India’s semiconductor roadmap, and asserted that Taiwan is and will be India’s most trusted and reliable partner.

“Let’s do this together,” Young Liu, Chairman of Foxconn, said addressing Semicon India 2023. Foxconn is the world’s largest contract electronics manufacturer based in Taiwan.

Building an ecosystem for chips in India is “for very brave”, he said adding, “Where there is a will, there is a way”.

Lauding the determination of the Indian government in this regard, Liu expressed optimism about where the nation is headed on its semiconductor journey. “Taiwan is and will be your most trusted and reliable partner…Let’s do this together,” he said.

Inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday, the ‘Semicon India 2023’ inaugural programme will highlight investment opportunities in India’s semiconductor sector through an informative presentation and a stimulating panel discussion led by industry.

According to a press release, the event aims to catalyse the semiconductor industry’s progress through networking, technology demonstrations and lucrative business prospects.

Speaking at the event, Ajit Manocha, President and CEO, SEMI, said: “Throughout my career, I have been asked whether India is ready to be part of global semiconductor industry. Today, I can say the journey has begun. For the first time, geopolitics, domestic policies and private sector capacity are aligned in India’s favour to become a player in semiconductor production.”

He added that the current semiconductor industry is likely to grow to $1 trillion and that India would be the next powerhouse in semiconductors in Asia.

Mark Papermaster, EVP and CTO at AMD, said the company will invest $400 million in the next five years and enhance its R&D capabilities. “We will build our largest design centre in Bengaluru,” he announced.

Prabhu Raja, president of Semiconductor Products Group at Applied Materials, lauded PM Modi’s vision to develop manufacturing. “India is poised to play an important role in the global semiconductor industry. We firmly believe this is India’s time to shine.”

“No company or country can overcome challenges in the sector alone. It’s time for collaborative partnership in this sector. This new collaborative model can provide us to be a catalyst in the sector. I would like to thank you for considering us a valuable partner in India’s semiconductor vision,” Raja added.

Sanjay Mehrotra, CEO of Micron Technology, echoed similar sentiments. “I thank PM Modi for his vision to make India a global hub for semiconductors. Micron is committed to build a semiconductor assembly and test facility in Gujarat. We estimate that our project in Gujarat will create nearly 5,000 direct jobs and additional 15,000 jobs in the community. We are hopeful that this investment will help catalyse other investments in the sector,” he said.

During the three-day conference ending on July 30, experts in the fields of semiconductor chip, display fab, chip design and assembling will gather to share their knowledge and perspectives on emerging opportunities in India.

Foxconn, Micron, AMD, IBM, Marvell, Vedanta, LAM Research, NXP Semiconductors, ST Microelectronics, Grantwood Technologies, Infineon Technologies, Applied Materials, and other prominent companies in the sector will participate in the event.

Notably, the Gujarat government signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) worth Rs 22,500 crore with semiconductor chip giant Micron Technology to establish an Assembly, Testing, Marking, and Packaging (ATMP) facility in the state.

During PM Modi’s recent visit to the United States, President Joe Biden announced the establishment of a state-of-the-art semiconductor facility by Micron Technology Inc in India.

Nargis Fakhri Recalls First Meeting With Rockstar Director Imtiaz Ali, Thought ‘If He’s Weird, I’ll Kick Him In…’ – News18

Nargis Fakhri also didn’t know who ‘dorky’ Ranbir Kapoor was, but thinks working with him was a blessing.

Actor Nargis Fakhri, best known for her performance in the 2011 film Rockstar, recently shared that she had never met director Imtiaz Ali and co-star Ranbir Kapoor earlier. The New Yorker revealed how she was surprisingly cast in the Indian film, after meeting Imtiaz in Prague. She also said that she didn’t know who Ranbir Kapoor was before they worked together on the hit film.

In an interview with Mashable Middle East, Nargis said that she had shot a jewellery advertisement which ended up on Indian billboards, without her knowledge. Someone from Imtiaz’s team then reached out to her, not knowing that the model was not based in India. However, they insisted that she meet the director on his trip to Prague.

Nargis said, “She told me, ‘The director will be in Prague, and he’d still like to meet you.’ I was like, ‘Oh, what the hell, let me go meet this person. If he’s weird I’ll kick him in the balls and I’ll run’. I had my New York out. I’m not afraid, I’m ready to fight people. You learn that when you’re six, in the hood.”

“I go, and this strange man with big curly hair, very nice, good aura. So obviously, my instinct kicks in to judge the character. Good person, very nice, felt safe, told me the most beautiful story I’ve ever heard in my life. I literally saw the whole movie in my head when he was telling me the story,” she added.

Nargis continued, “And he said, ‘If you come to India, we can help teach you the language’. I said ‘I don’t know’, because obviously that’s a huge thing to do, I don’t know anybody, I don’t know what I’ll do there. But after a couple of weeks, they asked again, and I said okay fine, I’ll just go and try. You only live once in life, you have to take a chance.”

Nargis also talked about working with Ranbir Kapoor, “Obviously, working with Ranbir was a blessing, in hindsight. But, at the time, I didn’t know who he was. I was like, ‘Who’s this dorky guy?’ But he’s very cool, and it was so much fun to work with so many people. But I had no idea who they were, which is probably great. Because I just enjoyed them for who they are. I wasn’t nervous, because I didn’t know who they were, and when you don’t know, you don’t care.”

Rockstar was a big hit and still remains a fan favourite. The film also starred Aditi Rao Hydari, Piyush Mishra and Kumud Mishra.

‘We Are Not Alone’: Ex-intel Officer David Grusch Says US Hiding Info on Alien Craft – News18

US Representative Tim Burchett supported the idea that the government was concealing information, saying at the opening of the hearing — which also featured testimony from two former Navy officers who said they witnessed UAPs — that “we’re going to uncover the cover-up”

We are not alone — and American authorities are covering up the evidence, a former US intelligence officer told a congressional committee on Wednesday.

David Grusch testified that he “absolutely” believes the government is in possession of unidentified anomalous phenomenon, or UAPs — which has replaced UFO in official parlance — as well as remains of their operators.

“I was informed, in the course of my official duties, of a multi-decade UAP crash retrieval and reverse-engineering program,” Grusch said.

“I made the decision, based on the data I collected, to report this information to my superiors and multiple inspectors general, and in effect becoming a whistleblower,” he said.

Pressed for details in the course of the hearing, Grusch repeatedly said he could not comment in a public setting because the information is classified.

He said the US government is hiding information on UAPs not only from the public but from Congress, and that he “personally interviewed” people with direct knowledge of non-human craft.

“My testimony is based on information I’ve been given by individuals with a longstanding track record of legitimacy and service to this country — many of whom also shared compelling evidence in the form of photography, official documentation, and classified oral testimony,” Grusch told lawmakers.

US Representative Tim Burchett supported the idea that the government was concealing information, saying at the opening of the hearing — which also featured testimony from two former Navy officers who said they witnessed UAPs — that “we’re going to uncover the cover-up.”

“This is an issue of government transparency. We can’t trust a government that does not trust its people,” he said.

But the head of the Pentagon office set up to identify UAPs that pose a potential threat told lawmakers earlier this year it had not identified signs of alien activity.

The All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office “has found no credible evidence thus far of extraterrestrial activity, off-world technology, or objects that defy the known laws of physics,” Sean Kirkpatrick testified in April.

The US government has however begun taking the issue of UAPs more seriously in recent years.

NASA held its first public meeting on UAPs in May, calling for a more rigorous scientific approach to clarify the origin of hundreds of mysterious sightings.

The Pentagon also began paying closer attention after a slew of inexplicable sightings from US Navy and Air Force pilots.

The central worry was that the sightings could be of unknown aerial surveillance technology China was using to collect intelligence on US defenses.
