इंडियन प्रीमियर लीग के नाम पर इंग्लैंड के 2 दिग्गज आमने-सामने आ गए हैं. यह मामला RCB के स्टार खिलाड़ी जैकब बैथेल से जुड़ा है. दरअसल बैथेल को अब तक IPL 2026 में रॉयल चैलेंजर्स बेंगलुरू के लिए एक भी मैच नहीं खेलने का अवसर नहीं मिला है. ऐसे में इंग्लैंड टीम के पूर्व कप्तान एलिस्टर कुक ने सलाह दी थी कि बेंच पर बैठे रहने से अच्छा यह होगा कि बैथेल IPL छोड़कर इंग्लैंड वापस आकर काउंटी क्रिकेट खेलें. कुक के इस बयान पर केविन पीटरसन बुरी तरह भड़क उठे हैं.

भड़क उठे केविन पीटरसन

केविन पीटरसन ने भड़कते हुए कहा कि एलिस्टर कुक को कोई ज्ञान नहीं है कि IPL में खेलने पर कैसा महसूस होता है. उन्होंने कुक पर तंज भी कसा और कहा कि उन्हें थोड़ा भी आभास नहीं है कि दुनिया के सर्वश्रेष्ठ खिलाड़ियों के आसपास रहने पर कैसा अनुभव मिलता है. इसलिए वो इसपर क्या विचार रखते हैं, वह मायने नहीं रखता है.

एलिस्टर कुक कभी IPL में नहीं खेले, जबकि केविन पीटरसन को तीन टीमों के लिए खेलने का अनुभव है. पीटरसन ने आगे जैकब बैथेल को सलाह देते हुए कहा कि उन्हें भारत में ही रहना चाहिए, क्योंकि चाहे उन्हें प्लेइंग इलेवन में मौका ना मिल रहा हो, उन्हें सीखने को बहुत कुछ मिलेगा.

 

जैकब बैथेल ने कहा, RCB के साथ रहूंगा

स्काई स्पोर्ट्स पॉडकास्ट पर चर्चा करते हुए जैकब बैथेल ने कहा था कि वे RCB के साथ ही जुड़े रहेंगे. उनका साफ कहना था कि उन्हें IPL का वातावरण बहुत अच्छा लग रहा है. बैथेल ने कहा कि आईपीएल में रहने पर कैसा अनुभव मिलता है, यह सिर्फ किसी टीम के साथ जुड़ने पर ही महसूस किया जा सकता है.

According to reports from Dainik Bhaskar, the fast bowler departed for his family home in Bhilwara, Rajasthan, immediately following the CSK match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Saturday. He carried out the final rites for his mother together with his older brother, Dr. Rajesh Choudhary. While Choudhary has made only a single appearance for the franchise this season, conflicting reports have emerged regarding his return. Some suggest he rejoined the team before the Mumbai Indians game, while others indicate he will take a brief hiatus and return for the subsequent fixture against Punjab Kings.

Dhoni is still waiting to make his first on field appearance in IPL 2026 as he continues to recover from a calf strain sustained just before the tournament began last month. However, his training intensity has increased:

Tuesday Session: Dhoni participated in a full practice, handling wicketkeeping duties before moving to the nets for a batting stint.

Wednesday Session: After a brief initial stint and a subsequent break, he returned for nearly an hour of practice against throwdown specialists and fast bowlers.

New Delhi, April 23: A special envoy to US President Donald Trump has reportedly asked FIFA to replace Iran with Italy in the upcoming World Cup, starting from June 11, after the American president assailed Pope Leo XIV in a social media post.

 

Trump has launched an unusual and scathing attack on Pope Leo over his opposition to US immigration policy and the war in Iran. He accused the first American Pope of being “weak on crime and terrible for foreign policy” in a Truth Social post, drawing criticism from across the political spectrum.   

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni called Trump’s criticism of Pope Leo XIV “unacceptable”.

As per the report of the Financial Times, the plan is an effort to repair the relationship between Trump and Meloni, which soured after the former’s comments against Pope Leo XIV regarding the war with Iran.

“I confirm I have suggested to Trump and (FIFA president Gianni) Infantino that Italy replace Iran at the World Cup. I’m an Italian native and it would be a dream to see the Azzurri at a US-hosted tournament. With four titles, they have the pedigree to justify inclusion,” US special envoy Paolo Zampolli was quoted in a report.

For the first time in FIFA World Cup history, a former world champion failed to qualify for football’s biggest stage for three consecutive editions. Italy’s heartbreak came after crashing out on penalties to Bosnia and Herzegovina in play-off, becoming the first World Cup-winning team to miss three consecutive tournaments.

Iran, meanwhile, qualified for a fourth successive World Cup, but after the start of the war, they requested that FIFA move the team’s three group matches from the US to Mexico.

Earlier, when FIFA chief Gianni Infantino had met with Trump, he assured him that Iran are “welcome” to take part in the 2026 World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the ​U.S., Mexico and Canada from June 11 to July 19.

But later, the Iranian sports minister, Ahmad Donyamali, said that Iran cannot participate in the 2026 World Cup following airstrikes against the country by the United States and Israel.

In response, Trump had posted on Truth Social that “The Iran National Soccer Team is welcome to the World Cup, but I really don’t believe it is appropriate that they be there, for their own life and safety. Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DONALD J. TRUMP.” 

Iran is scheduled to play at SoFi Stadium against New Zealand June 16 to begin its tournament. It will also play Belgium at the stadium before finishing group play against Mo Salah and Egypt in Seattle June 26.

With several months remaining before India’s next assignment in the current World Test Championship cycle, national selectors are reportedly considering significant adjustments to the roster to rejuvenate the team’s campaign. Central to these discussions is Sai Sudharsan, whose hold on the number 3 batting position is increasingly fragile due to a lack of form during IPL 2026.

The Race for the Number 3 Spot

The selection committee may be hesitant to grant Sudharsan an extended period to solidify his place in the top order. Currently averaging 27.45 across six Test matches, Sudharsan is facing stiff competition from Royal Challengers Bengaluru batter Devdutt Padikkal.

As India prepares for a standalone Test against Afghanistan in June, the management is evaluating potential changes and backup options to bolster their chances of qualifying for the WTC 2025–27 final. Devdutt Padikkal: With only two Test appearances, Padikkal impressed on his 2024 debut against England with a fifty. However, during the 2024–25 Border Gavaskar Trophy in Perth, he recorded a 23 ball duck followed by a modest 25 off 71 balls while batting at number 3.

Dhruv Jurel: Jurel is expected to keep his place in the squad, though potentially as a specialist batter. His statistical output has dipped, with 459 runs across nine Tests at an average of 35.30, including one century and one fifty.

Ruturaj Gaikwad: A Potential Solution for Spin

Selectors are specifically monitoring Maharashtra captain Ruturaj Gaikwad for a role in the middle order to address the team’s recent difficulties against spin bowling. Gaikwad, 29, is highly regarded for his proficiency against slow bowlers but has yet to make his Test debut. दिमाग में कुछ नहीं चलता है सर. आज भी हर दिन मैच से पहले मैं भी कार्टून देखता हूं. अभी भी आदत है कार्टून देखने का. अभी भी हम कार्टून देख रहे हैं लेकिन फोकस गेम पर भी है. अब अगले मैच पर फोकस करेंगे, 2 पॉइंट्स लेंगे और प्लेऑफ की ओर बढ़ेंगे.”

बुधवार को लखनऊ सुपर जायंट्स के खिलाफ वैभव सिर्फ 8 रन बनाकर आउट हुए, इस दौरान ऐसा कुछ हुआ जो आमतौर पर देखने को नहीं मिलता. मोहसिन खान की अच्छी गेंदबाजी के कारण वैभव को लगातार 5 गेंदें डॉट खेलनी पड़ी, दबाव के कारण अंतिम गेंद पर वैभव ने बड़े शॉट का प्रयास किया और आउट हो गए. वैभव ने 11 गेंदों में 8 रन बनाए.
