FIFA World Cup 2026 finally has a TV home in India – here’s where to watch

New Delhi: One of the biggest unanswered questions ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026 has finally been settled for Indian football fans. Ending months of uncertainty over where viewers in India would be able to watch the soccer’s biggest tournament on television, the Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. (ZEEL) has officially launched its new sports television network, Unite8 Sports.

The launch follows approval from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and brings Zee back to live sports broadcasting through a dedicated multi-sport platform.

Starting June 2, four new channels have gone live across the country – Unite8 Sports 1, Unite8 Sports 1 HD, Unite8 Sports 2 and Unite8 Sports 2 HD. The channels are now available through more than 500 cable and distribution platforms.

Major distribution partners include Dish TV, Tata Play, Airtel, Sun Direct, Siti Networks, Indian Cable Net Company Ltd., Hinduja Global, Fastway, Andhra Pradesh State FiberNet Ltd., Kerala Communicators Cable Ltd., Thamizhaga Cable TV Communications, V K Digital, UCN Cable Network, Take One, Sri Sai Cable, Kal Cable, Digiana, Bhimavaram and Axom, among others.

The network will serve as a multi-sport destination and feature live coverage across football, cricket, kabaddi, badminton, wrestling, boxing, combat sports and several other disciplines.

Zee bets big on multi-sport programming

With the launch of Unite8 Sports, Zee is targeting Indian sports audiences whose interests extend across multiple sports rather than a single league or tournament.

The company says the new network has been built to bring different sporting events together under one brand while making live sports easier to access for viewers across the country.

Speaking about the launch, Bavesh Janavlekar, chief business officer, Unite8 Sports at Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd., said, “With Unite8 Sports, we have built a curated multi-sport offering that caters to the evolving preferences of Indian audiences and creates a scalable platform that can match the increasing demand for high-quality accessible live sports action across the country.”

He added that strong distribution partnerships would help ensure that viewers can easily access the channels regardless of where they live.

“Our focus is on ensuring seamless access for viewers, supported by strong partnerships across the distribution ecosystem. We are geared up to present the upcoming FIFA events across our channels, and we remain well-positioned to deliver a compelling viewing experience to fans across the Nation,” Janavlekar said.

The FIFA World Cup 2026 will be hosted across the United States, Canada and Mexico and is scheduled to begin on June 11.

Indian men’s cricket team schedule after IPL 2026: Check full list of matches, fixtures, dates, venues

With Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) securing their second consecutive title with win over Gujarat Titans in the final at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on May 31, the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 came to a close after two months of high-octane action. However, Indian men’s cricket team has zero time to rest.

After the IPL wrapped up, Indian cricket’s next chapter begins almost immediately, with international fixtures starting in New Chandigarh on June 6.

Notably, India’s post-IPL 2026 calendar is incredibly dense, featuring a massive focus on white-ball cricket as the team builds its foundations for the 2027 ICC Men’s ODI World Cup, alongside critical transitional red-ball assignments under head coach Gautam Gambhir.

Immediate Series: Afghanistan Tour of India (June 6 – June 20)

International cricket resumes on Indian soil with a historic one-off Test match in New Chandigarh, outside of the World Test Championship cycle. Shubman Gill will lead a transitional red-ball squad featuring young talents like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sai Sudharsan, and Nitish Kumar Reddy, alongside returning stars.

Following the Test, a three-match ODI series will move across the country, giving the main white-ball squad their first run since the IPL.

Afghanistan Tour of India (June 6-20, 2026)

June 6-10: Only Test – New PCA Stadium, Mullanpur (New Chandigarh)

June 13: 1st ODI – HPCA Stadium, Dharamsala

June 17: 2nd ODI – Ekana Stadium, Lucknow

The European Summer: Ireland & England (June 26 – July 19)

After wrapping up the Afghanistan series, the Men in Blue fly out to Europe. They will start with a lightning-fast stop in Belfast before heading into a highly anticipated, high-octane white-ball package against England.

India tour of Ireland

June 26: 1st T20I – Civil Service Cricket Club, Belfast

June 28: 2nd T20I – Civil Service Cricket Club, Belfast

India tour of England

July 1: 1st T20I – Chester-le-Street

July 4: 2nd T20I – Manchester

July 7: 3rd T20I – Nottingham

July 9: 4th T20I – Bristol

July 11: 5th T20I – Southampton

July 14: 1st ODI – Birmingham

July 16: 2nd ODI – Cardiff

July 19: 3rd ODI – Lord’s, London

Late Summer & Pre-Autumn Transitions (July- September)

Following the rigorous UK tour, a quick developmental three-match T20I series is slated against Zimbabwe from July 23 to July 26 in Harare, ensuring the bench strength gets ample game time.

August takes India to Sri Lanka for a vital two-Test series under the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) cycle, followed by a separate window in September where the team is scheduled for an away white-ball clash against Bangladesh (3 ODIs, 3 T20Is) alongside 3 additional standalone T20Is against Afghanistan.

The Selection Conundrum: West Indies & Asian Games (September – October)

The late-monsoon window introduces a fascinating logistical challenge for the BCCI selectors. The 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, will feature cricket in the T20 format from September 19 to October 4.  However, this collides with a massive home bilateral series against the West Indies, scheduled from September 27 to October 17 (3 ODIs, 5 T20Is).

Reports suggest that India’s selectors are already preparing separate squads to manage both assignments simultaneously – with T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav expected to lead the frontline home squad against the Windies while a distinct, youth-centric contingent hunts for Gold in Japan.

Wrapping Up 2026: New Zealand & Sri Lanka

To finish the calendar year, India will embark on a grueling multi-format tour of New Zealand through late October and November, consisting of 2 Tests, 3 ODIs, and 5 T20Is.

Finally, the home crowd will welcome the team back in December as Sri Lanka arrives for a festive white-ball series running from December 13 to December 27, concluding with 3 ODIs and 3 T20Is across venues like Delhi, Bengaluru, Ahmedabad, and Rajkot.

The Big Picture

With fewer Test matches left on the horizon for 2026, Head Coach Gautam Gambhir and the selectors are visibly shifting gears toward heavy ODI and T20I rotations, optimizing squads for a multi-year transition process while keeping the fans entertained with non-stop cricket action.

For his IPL 2026 heroics, Vaibhav won the coveted Orange Cap (776 runs), the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award, and the Emerging Player of the Year honor. Along the way, he obliterated Chris Gayle’s long-standing record by hitting an unbelievable 72 sixes in a single season.

Shifting Focus To Spin Department

While India’s star-studded support staff features head coach Gautam Gambhir, batting coach Sitanshu Kotak, and fast-bowling coach Morne Morkel, a specialized, dedicated coach for the spinners was a missing piece of the puzzle. Sairaj Bahutule steps in to fill that vital void.

“It is a tremendous honour to be appointed as the spin Bowling Coach of the Indian men’s cricket team,” said Bahutule on his appointment.

“Representing India as a player was a matter of immense pride, and the opportunity to contribute to Indian Cricket once again in a coaching capacity is deeply special. I look forward to working with the players and supporting the team’s pursuit of excellence across formats,” he added.

India will be looking to make the most of Bahutule’s experience in the upcoming cricket season.

A Proven Coaching Pedigree

Following a distinguished playing career, Sairaj Bahutule has established himself as one of the most respected coaches in Indian cricket across domestic, pathway, and franchise levels.

His coaching journey has spanned domestic, pathway and international cricket, including tenures as Head Coach of Vidarbha, Kerala, Gujarat and Bengal. He has also served as a spin-bowling coach with IPL franchises Rajasthan Royals and Punjab Kings.

Domestic Powerhouse: He has successfully served as the head coach for multiple prominent state teams, including Vidarbha, Kerala, Gujarat, and Bengal.

IPL Experience: He brings deep franchise experience, having served as the spin-bowling coach for the Rajasthan Royals (2018-2021, 2025) and most recently for the Punjab Kings during the IPL 2026 season.

NCA & Pathway Excellence: A key contributor to India’s player development pathway, he was the Bowling Coach of India’s ICC Under-19 Men’s Cricket World Cup-winning team in 2022 and was also part of the coaching staff for the 2024 edition of the tournament.

He has worked extensively with India A and the senior men’s team as a specialist bowling coach on multiple assignments and was a key member of the coaching setup at the BCCI’s National Cricket Academy (now Centre of Excellence) from 2021 to 2024.

What Lies Ahead

Bahutule takes over the spin department at a transitionary time. India is currently pushing to find its rhythm in the ongoing World Test Championship cycle after some tough red-ball outings at home over the last couple of years.

His immediate task will be working with standard-bearers like Kuldeep Yadav and blooding younger talent like Washington Sundar, Manav Suthar, and Harsh Dubey. Following the home assignment against Afghanistan, Bahutule will travel with the team for a high-profile white-ball tour of England.

Team India Returns To Action

Playing international cricket for the first time since their ICC Men’s T20 World Cup victory in March this year, the Indian men’s cricket team will return to action in a one-off Test against Afghanistan starting June 6 in Mullanpur.

This will be followed by a three-ODI series between the two teams. This will be followed by India touring England for a white-ball series featuring five T20Is and three ODIs.
