BCB Drops Eight Players From BPL Draft Over Integrity Concerns Amid Match-Fixing Probe

BCB Drops Eight Players From BPL Draft Over Integrity Concerns Amid Match-Fixing Probe

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has excluded at least eight domestic cricketers from the final Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) players’ draft after its integrity unit raised concerns over their conduct during the tournament’s last edition. The decision follows internal investigations into alleged match-fixing activities. A senior BPL governing council official confirmed that the board is determined to keep anyone under suspicion out of the upcoming season’s draft in an effort to avoid a repeat of past controversies.

According to the updated draft list circulated to BPL franchises on Sunday—reviewed by this publication—the names removed were previously included in the preliminary draft. The omissions were made based on a report from the BCB’s integrity unit, led by Alex Marshall.

Among those left out are Bangladesh internationals Anamul Haque Bijoy, Mosaddek Hossain, Shofiul Islam, Alauddin Babu, Sunzamul Islam, Mizanur Rahman, Nihaduzzaman, and Munir Hasan Khan.

“They are omitted from the list as per the report of the integrity unit, as they were found in the red flag zone and we cannot tell anything further in this regard,” a board official told Cricbuzz.

The shake-up comes in the aftermath of a comprehensive 900-page report submitted by an independent three-member inquiry committee formed after widespread fixing allegations surfaced during the previous BPL season. The committee reportedly identified 18 to 19 individuals—including eight to ten players—who were suspected of varying levels of involvement.

As the BCB attempts to restore confidence in the league’s integrity, the governing council appears intent on sending a strong message: those under suspicion will not be part of the upcoming BPL. Former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal had previously decided not to participate in the upcoming BPL, making it the first time since the tournament began in 2012 that he will be absent.

Like Rohit And Virat, He Has A Similar Effect For SA: Ashwell Prince Makes Big Claim On SA Star Quinton De Kock Ahead Of India ODI Series

Like Rohit And Virat, He Has A Similar Effect For SA: Ashwell Prince Makes Big Claim On SA Star Quinton De Kock Ahead Of India ODI Series

South Africa batting coach Ashwell Prince has stirred discussion ahead of the ODI series against India by drawing a strong comparison between Quinton de Kock and India’s legendary batters Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. The coach believes that de Kock brings the same level of psychological assurance and influence to the South African side that Rohit and Kohli provide to India. His remarks come as both teams prepare for the opening match of the three match ODI series beginning on November 30 at the JSCA Stadium in Ranchi. South Africa enter this series with plenty of confidence after sweeping India in the recently concluded Test series.

Prince spoke highly of de Kock during his pre match interaction with the media, saying that the wicketkeeper batter remains a central figure in South Africa’s batting plans. He highlighted that de Kock gives his team the same sense of stability, dependability and leadership that India receive from their two senior superstars. Prince explained that with India recovering from a tough Test series defeat and South Africa stepping in with an in form and balanced batting lineup, a senior player like de Kock becomes even more crucial.

Ashwell Prince draws parallel between Quinton De Kock and Virat Kohli Rohit Sharma

At the pre match press conference, Prince further detailed why he places de Kock in such elite company. He pointed out that the left hander’s experience and recent performances have made him a pillar in the South African dressing room. Prince emphasised that younger players benefit immensely from sharing the field and conversations with de Kock, which elevates their confidence and understanding of the game.

“He’s massive. Just like Rohit and Virat strengthen India, Quinny has a similar effect for us. His experience and the quality he showed in Pakistan boosts the dressing room. We’ve got quite a few young left-handers and young players. For them to sit with him, talk to him, and bat with him out in the middle does a lot for their growth. He’s a big influence for us,” Prince said at the pre match press conference.

Quinton De Kock in hot form

De Kock arrives for the ODI series on the back of an outstanding run of form from South Africa’s recent limited overs contests against Pakistan. He scored a total of 239 runs across three matches, including a brilliant unbeaten 123 along with steady innings of 53 and 63. His performances make him an important source of confidence at the top of the order and add even more strength to a South African batting unit that already includes Matthew Breetzke, Aiden Markram, Temba Bavuma, Dewald Brevis and Ryan Rickelton.

This powerful South African group will face an Indian bowling attack that features relatively less experienced names such as Harshit Rana, Prasidh Krishna and Arshdeep Singh. India also come into this ODI series with added pressure after their Test series defeat, which increases the responsibility on their senior players to deliver a strong response.

IND vs SA 1st ODI: Will Rain Play Spoilsport In Rohit-Virats Home Comeback Series, Know Ranchi Pitch Report And Weather Update For JSCA Stadium

India head into the opening ODI in Ranchi looking to shift momentum after a heavy 2–0 defeat in the recently concluded Test series against South Africa. With the white ball leg beginning at the JSCA Stadium, the hosts will aim for a much stronger start.

KL Rahul leads the side in the absence of regular captain Shubman Gill, who has been ruled out of the ODI series. Gill also missed the second Test in Guwahati after sustaining an injury during the first Test in Kolkata. Vice captain Shreyas Iyer remains unavailable as well due to an injury suffered in the Australia series. India, however, gain significant strength with the return of senior players Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, both set to feature in their first ODI series since Australia. With the pair having retired from Test cricket and T20 internationals, the ODI format is now central to their plans leading up to the 2027 ODI World Cup.

IND vs SA Pitch Report

The JSCA Stadium in Ranchi usually offers an ideal blend for both bowlers and batters, though conditions tilt slightly in favour of the batting side. The pitch provides good bounce and carry which assists the pacers early on, while spinners gradually come into play as the match progresses. Under lights, the spinners benefit from additional grip and turn, although chasing teams could find run scoring easier if dew becomes a factor at night.

IND vs SA Weather Report

Like several regions in India, Ranchi is expected to experience poor air quality. According to Accuweather, the morning temperature will be around 22 degrees. During the afternoon, which coincides with match time, temperatures rise to approximately 23 degrees with cloud cover predicted at 93 percent. The evening becomes noticeably colder with the temperature dropping to 15 degrees before falling further to 13 degrees late at night.

India Squad: Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul (w and c), Washington Sundar, Ravindra Jadeja, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Harshit Rana, Arshdeep Singh, Prasidh Krishna, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Tilak Varma, Dhruv Jurel, Kuldeep Yadav

Big Blow To England ! Mark Wood Set To Miss Second Test Against Australia Due To…

Big Blow To England ! Mark Wood Set To Miss Second Test Against Australia Due To…

In a massive blow for England, tearaway pacer Mark Wood is set to miss the crucial second Ashes Test against Australia in Brisbane because of concerns over his left knee.

According to Sky Sports report, Wood missed England’s first training session in Brisbane. He remained at the team hotel to rest an issue with his left knee while the remainder of the side returned to work with an optional session at Allan Border Field on Saturday.

England still have four days of training left at the Gabba before the day-night second Test – including two sessions under lights – but it is believed that Wood is unlikely to take part in that match.

Mark Wood’s Struggle With Injuries

Notably, the 35-year-old Wood sat out the whole domestic season following surgery on the same knee in March and even faced a hamstring concern during the pre-series warm-up game against the England Lions.

He was ultimately passed fit after being sent for scans but bowled only 11 overs while wearing heavy strapping in Perth as England were beaten by Australia inside two days – the first two-day Ashes Test in 104 years.

Although wicketless, Wood hit 93mph in the first innings and rattled all-rounder Cameron Green with a sharp bouncer to the helmet, though his pace dipped during a short spell in Australia’s chase.

Who Will Replace Mark Wood In England’s Playing XI?

Josh Tongue would be the most likely candidate to take Mark Wood’s place in the England XI for the second Test, a day-night match at the Gabba which starts on Thursday.

Notably, Tongue is one of three England players – alongside fellow seamer Matthew Potts and batter Jacob Bethell – who are currently in Canberra, tuning up in the Lions’ match against a Prime Minister’s XI.

Tongue went wicketless in his 16 overs on Saturday, while Potts picked up two for 40 from an identical spell as the Prime Minister’s XI declared at 308 for eight. In reply, the England Lions closed the day on 30 without loss in the two-day match.

Dont Think It Will Happen Overnight…: KL Rahul Admits Lack Of Definitive Answer For Indias Spin Struggles Ahead Of South Africa ODIs

Dont Think It Will Happen Overnight…: KL Rahul Admits Lack Of Definitive Answer For Indias Spin Struggles Ahead Of South Africa ODIs

Ahead of the ODI series against South Africa, India’s stand-in captain KL Rahul admitted he does not have a definitive answer to the side’s batting struggles against spinners, adding that the batters are already trying to find solutions to this issue.

India come into the ODI series, starting at the JSCA International Stadium on Sunday, on the back of a 2-0 series defeat in Tests, where their batting issues against spinners came to the fore yet again.

“I cannot give you a definitive answer. I can only say that we have not been able to play spinners well. We understand and recognise that this is a part of our game and that we are not able to play better against spin bowling. You spoke about Gavaskar sir speaking on the issue – we can talk to him and understand what we need to do better against spin. We are already trying to find ways to improve. I don’t think it will happen overnight.”

“I don’t know the answer as to why we used to play earlier and why we don’t play well now. There are many reasons for this. But we can only think about how we can do better as players and individually, how can we get better and when such a situation comes back, in the next 6-7 months our series will be in Sri Lanka and then the Indian home series will be in Australia – so, how can we do better?”

“What are the technical changes we need to make? These are the things that we individually try to seek answers and try to do better. That’s all we can do and we used to play very well against spin bowling. So, maybe we will reach out to those players and our seniors and try to learn from them,” said Rahul in the pre-match press conference.

In Guwahati, Rahul reached out to an off-break from an off-spinner, but was undone by the drift and dip, resulting in him being castled. Asked if he had any regret over not taking the aggressive shot at that time, Rahul said he had no such regrets.

“No, there’s no regret of not trying a different shot. There’s a regret of executing what I did. It is a Test format. At the stage that I was playing, it was the last few overs of the day. I don’t think that’s the right time for me to try and step down and hit the bowler for a boundary. Looking back, maybe I would have but it was only the second ball of the over.”

“If I had stepped down and gotten out, maybe that would have been a question mark in my own head as to whether that was right or wrong. At that point in time, I think defending was the right option to do which I didn’t do well enough. That’s what I take away from that dismissal,” he added.

He also insisted that the Test series loss won’t have any bearing on their approach in the ODI series against the Proteas. “Both are very different formats. The players are different, the setup is different. We won’t carry that. Obviously, the Test team will be disappointed and hurt that we couldn’t do well in Guwahati and Kolkata. But it’s important that we forget that and focus on this series.”

“The conversation has been about how we haven’t played a lot of one-day matches since the Champions Trophy. So, it’ll be important that we catch that rhythm and try to get that momentum of playing one-day cricket and performing in ODI cricket. We’ve all played, so we’ll keep talking about what tactical changes we’ll have to make and how we’ll have to play with the mindset. We’ll try to do the same,” he concluded.
