CARNAGE: Abhishek Sharma Smashes 32-Ball Hundred As Punjab Rip Through Bengal In SMAT, Breaks Multiple Records

CARNAGE: Abhishek Sharma Smashes 32-Ball Hundred As Punjab Rip Through Bengal In SMAT, Breaks Multiple Records

Abhishek Sharma lit up the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in Hyderabad with one of the most explosive knocks in the tournament’s history, smashing a 32-ball hundred that included 11 towering sixes. The Punjab captain, who had been struggling with single-digit scores earlier in the competition, finally found his rhythm and demolished an experienced Bengal attack on Sunday morning at the Gymkhana Ground. Opening the innings after Punjab opted to bat, Abhishek began in breathtaking fashion and stormed to a half-century in just 12 balls. He tore into his former SunRisers Hyderabad teammate Mohammed Shami, taking 23 runs off a single over. His fifty was extraordinary not just for its speed but for the manner in which he got there 50 of his first 51 runs came in boundaries, with the left-hander hammering five sixes and five fours by the time he reached the milestone.

Abhishek and fellow opener Prabhsimran Singh gave Punjab a blistering start, racing past 120 runs inside eight overs. Prabhsimran also notched up a fifty as Punjab’s top order dismantled the Bengal attack.

The carnage continued as Abhishek pressed on without let-up, registering a century in only 32 balls. His final tally before reaching triple figures read 11 sixes and seven fours, marking his eighth T20 hundred in 157 innings. This puts him level with Rohit Sharma in the list of Indian players with the most T20 centuries. Only Virat Kohli, with nine, stands ahead of them.

This innings also adds to Abhishek’s growing reputation as one of India’s most dangerous short-format hitters. Last year, he produced a 28-ball hundred the joint-fastest by an Indian in T20 cricket against Meghalaya in the previous SMAT season. He also smashed 87 sixes across all T20s in the calendar year, the most by any Indian male cricketer.

This stands as the third-fastest T20 hundred by an Indian. The all-time record  a blistering 28-ball century is jointly held by Urvil Patel and Abhishek, both of whom achieved the feat in 2024.

Legendary Tribute: PCA Stadium To Dedicate New Stands To Harmanpreet Kaur And Yuvraj Singh Ahead Of SA T20I

Legendary Tribute: PCA Stadium To Dedicate New Stands To Harmanpreet Kaur And Yuvraj Singh Ahead Of SA T20I

The Punjab Cricket Association is set to honour two of India’s most iconic World Cup heroes with a special tribute at the PCA Stadium in Mullanpur. Following the Mumbai Cricket Association’s move to name a stand after Rohit Sharma at the Wankhede Stadium earlier this year, the PCA has decided to celebrate Women’s World Cup winning captain Harmanpreet Kaur and legendary all rounder Yuvraj Singh by dedicating new stands in their names next month.

Officials from the PCA confirmed that both Harmanpreet Kaur and Yuvraj Singh, who have each lifted the ODI World Cup for India, will have newly named stands at the venue. Officiating PCA Secretary Siddhant Sharma stated on Saturday that the inauguration will take place on December 11, just before the fourth T20I between India and South Africa at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium.

“Harmanpreet Kaur will be honoured for her achievement in winning the World Cup and we have announced that a stand will be named after her. On the 11th, during the India South Africa match, we will inaugurate it. Along with that, a stand named after our former player and two time World Cup champion, Yuvraj Singh, will also be inaugurated on the same day,” Sharma told IANS, as quoted by the Times of India.

Harman The Leader

Harmanpreet, who recently led India to their maiden world title in women’s cricket earlier this month in Navi Mumbai by defeating South Africa in the final, will also receive the previously announced cash award during the ceremony. The PCA confirmed that Amanjot Kaur will be honoured at the same event.

Sharma added that such recognitions mean far more than just naming a section of a stadium. “A stand being named after them is a tiny thing compared to the big feat that they’ve achieved for the nation. This is a small token from us to them in recognition of their achievements,” he said.

He also highlighted the impact this move could have on aspiring players in the region. “The up and coming players will gain inspiration from cricketers like Harmanpreet, Smriti Mandhana, and Jemimah. They’re the ones who motivate the young girls. We also have some surprises coming up for everyone,” he added. Yuvraj Singh, meanwhile, remains one of India’s most celebrated all rounders, having played a crucial role in two major global triumphs, the 2007 T20 World Cup and the 2011 ODI World Cup.

Ro-Ko Still On Trial: Despite Heroics In Australia, BCCI To Discuss Rohit Sharma-Virat Kohlis Future After ODI Series VS SA

Ro-Ko Still On Trial: Despite Heroics In Australia, BCCI To Discuss Rohit Sharma-Virat Kohlis Future After ODI Series VS SA

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is reportedly planning a meeting to deliberate on the future of senior stars Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli with the 2027 ODI World Cup approaching. According to a report by The Times of India, Gautam Gambhir and Ajit Agarkar are expected to convene in Ahmedabad after the conclusion of the third ODI between India and South Africa in Visakhapatnam.

Rohit and Virat Yet to Receive Clarity

Currently, Rohit and Virat are active only in ODIs, but neither has received definitive clarity regarding their roles in the national team or their participation in the 2027 ODI World Cup. With India playing a limited number of one-day matches, it remains uncertain whether the duo can secure a spot in the team for the next one and a half years.

A BCCI source emphasized the importance of clarity, stating, “It is very important that players of Rohit and Kohli’s stature are given clarity about what is expected of them and how the current management views their roles. They can’t just be playing with uncertainty.”

The source further added, “They did score runs in the third ODI in Australia. But the series was already lost and the match was set up by the bowlers in the first innings. They looked rusty in the first two matches. One can’t afford that in every series.”

Rohit ended the Australia ODI series as the top-scorer with 202 runs from three innings, while Virat remained unbeaten on 74 in the final game after being dismissed for ducks in the first two matches.

Potential Participation in Vijay Hazare Trophy

Additionally, reports suggest that the BCCI may advise both Rohit and Virat to feature in the upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy starting December 24. A source commented, “The board would have been pleased if they (Rohit and Virat) had played some cricket in England during the summer. They will be advised to take part in the Vijay Hazare Trophy next month.”

With the ODI series against South Africa beginning on November 30, both Rohit and Virat will be part of India’s squad, and their upcoming domestic participation could help them regain rhythm and form ahead of the 2027 World Cup.

BCB Drops Eight Players From BPL Draft Over Integrity Concerns Amid Match-Fixing Probe

BCB Drops Eight Players From BPL Draft Over Integrity Concerns Amid Match-Fixing Probe

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has excluded at least eight domestic cricketers from the final Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) players’ draft after its integrity unit raised concerns over their conduct during the tournament’s last edition. The decision follows internal investigations into alleged match-fixing activities. A senior BPL governing council official confirmed that the board is determined to keep anyone under suspicion out of the upcoming season’s draft in an effort to avoid a repeat of past controversies.

According to the updated draft list circulated to BPL franchises on Sunday—reviewed by this publication—the names removed were previously included in the preliminary draft. The omissions were made based on a report from the BCB’s integrity unit, led by Alex Marshall.

Among those left out are Bangladesh internationals Anamul Haque Bijoy, Mosaddek Hossain, Shofiul Islam, Alauddin Babu, Sunzamul Islam, Mizanur Rahman, Nihaduzzaman, and Munir Hasan Khan.

“They are omitted from the list as per the report of the integrity unit, as they were found in the red flag zone and we cannot tell anything further in this regard,” a board official told Cricbuzz.

The shake-up comes in the aftermath of a comprehensive 900-page report submitted by an independent three-member inquiry committee formed after widespread fixing allegations surfaced during the previous BPL season. The committee reportedly identified 18 to 19 individuals—including eight to ten players—who were suspected of varying levels of involvement.

As the BCB attempts to restore confidence in the league’s integrity, the governing council appears intent on sending a strong message: those under suspicion will not be part of the upcoming BPL. Former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal had previously decided not to participate in the upcoming BPL, making it the first time since the tournament began in 2012 that he will be absent.
