Will Rajasthan Royals Play Their Home Matches In Pune During IPL 2026? MCA Secretary Answers

Will Rajasthan Royals Play Their Home Matches In Pune During IPL 2026? MCA Secretary Answers

Just a week after it emerged that Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have been in discussions with the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) to host their IPL 2026 home fixtures in Pune, secretary Adv. Kamlesh Pisal has disclosed that Rajasthan Royals (RR) too have expressed interest in hosting some of their home matches at the MCA Stadium.

“RCB had also approached us for hosting their IPL 2026 home games, and the discussions are still ongoing with them. Now, the Rajasthan Royals have approached us for hosting their home games in IPL 2026.”

“They had come to Pune recently, inspected the stadium, done the recce around it and have also shown willingness to host a part of their home matches here. Now it is left with the BCCI to confirm the venue and which team’s matches it will host in IPL 2026,” Pisal told IANS on Sunday.

RR’s decision to move some of their home matches away from their primary venue at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur arises from ongoing disagreements with the Rajasthan Cricket Association. As IPL 2008 winners, RR also have an alternative home ground at Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati, where they will host a few fixtures in the 2026 season.

Tensions escalated in IPL 2025 when an RCA official levelled match-fixing allegations against the franchise, something which they categorically denied while calling for strict action against the individual concerned.

It is understood that, with two IPL teams willing to host games in Pune, the association is in contemplation mode and a final decision is expected in the coming days.

Another MCA official told IANS that they are inclined to accept RR’s offer, even as RCB has sought time from the association until the IPL auction in Abu Dhabi on December 16 to make a final decision on their home venue for 2026.

Apart from hosting men’s international matches across all formats, including the 2023 Men’s ODI World Cup and the Women’s T20 Challenge, the MCA Stadium has also served as the home ground for Pune Warriors India, Rising Pune Supergiant, and Punjab Kings at various times during the 2010s IPL seasons. The MCA Stadium in Pune will also host an AR Rahman concert, scheduled to begin at 5 pm on Sunday.

Opting to field first after winning the toss, India limited Nepal to 114 for 5 in their 20 overs. The chase was nothing short of clinical as India surpassed the target in just 12.1 overs with 47 balls to spare. Khula Sharir emerged as the standout performer, scoring an unbeaten 44 off 27 balls, including four boundaries, to guide India home comfortably.

The victory comes barely three weeks after the Indian women’s team defeated South Africa in Navi Mumbai -two landmark wins that highlight the rising status of women’s cricket in the country, both in mainstream and visually impaired categories.

Meet Senuran Muthusamy, Indian-Origin Cricketer Who Hit Maiden Test Hundred For South Africa In Guwahati

South Africa’s Senuran Muthusamy grabbed the spotlight on the second day of the second Test against India after scoring his maiden century at the Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati on Sunday.

Muthusamy, who recently won the ICC Player of the Month award, received brilliant support from wicketkeeper-batter Kyle Verreynne and Marco Jansen from the other end, during his historic knock (109 runs off 206).

The 31-year-old all-rounder described it as a special moment to reach the three-figure mark at a packed ground and expressed satisfaction at contributing to the team’s total.

“It was a really special moment in front of this full house. I’m just glad that I could contribute to the team and really put some runs on the board in the first innings, which is always important,” Muthusamy told broadcasters.

Who is Senuran Muthusamy?

Senuran Muthusamy is a South African international cricketer. He was born on February 22, 1994, in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal. He is a versatile left-handed batting all-rounder who bowls slow left-arm orthodox spin, known for his lower-middle-order batting and economical spin bowling that has proven effective in subcontinental conditions.

Early Life and Background

Senuran Muthusamy hails from a family of South Indian Tamil descent, with roots in Nagapattinam, Tamil Nadu, India. As part of South Africa’s “Born Free” generation (born in the year democracy arrived in 1994), he had access to quality cricket facilities from a young age.

He attended Clifton School in Durban, representing provincial school teams from U-11 to U-19 levels. Despite his cricket talent, he pursued a degree in media and marketing to avoid relying solely on the sport, but his performances soon made him a professional.

Domestic and Franchise Career

Senuran Muthusamy began his first-class cricket with KwaZulu-Natal before joining the Dolphins franchise in 2016–17. His breakthrough came in the 2017–18 Sunfoil Series, where he scored a career-best 181 against the Knights.

In List A cricket, he notched his maiden century (100 off 106 balls) against Western Province in March 2022 during the CSA One-Day Cup. In T20 leagues, he played three seasons for the Pretoria Capitals in the SA20 before being signed by the Sunrisers Eastern Cape for R1.5 million at the 2025 auction. His all-round skills have made him a consistent performer in domestic cricket.

International Career

Muthusamy made his debut for South Africa in Test cricket on October 2, 2019, against India in Visakhapatnam, where he claimed his first wicket by dismissing captain Virat Kohli (caught and bowled for 20). He made his ODI debut in February 2025 during the Tri-Series in Pakistan.

After a challenging 2019 tour of India where South Africa were thrashed and Muthusamy feared his Test career might end, he staged a strong comeback.

Now in 2025, Muthusamy scored his maiden Test century (109) against India in the second Test in Guwahati, partnering with Marco Jansen (93) to help South Africa reach 489 and seize control of the match.

Playing Style and Legacy

Inspired by Kumar Sangakkara for batting, Muthusamy excels in patient accumulations and has evolved into a key spin option for South Africa, especially in Asia. His ICC rankings reflect his all-round value, and his recent form has solidified his role in the Proteas’ setup for the 2027 World Test Championship cycle.

Not Rohit Sharma Or Shubman Gill ! This Star Player To Lead India In South Africa ODIs, Ruturaj Gaikwad Makes Comeback; Check Full Squad

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced India’s squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against South Africa, starting on Sunday, November 30 in Ranchi.

The Indian side sees a shakeup as recently appointed ODI captain Shubman Gill got injured in the first Test against South Africa in Kolkata and vice-captain Shreyas Iyer is still recovering from an injury on India’s tour of Australia. In their absence, KL Rahul takes the reins of the side for the series, who last led India in 2023, when they beat South Africa 2-1 in an ODI series.

Meanwhile, the squad also sees the return of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Tilak Varma, who have been included in the team as India look to fill the void left by Shreyas Iyer in the middle order.

Both Ruturaj and Tilak last made an ODI appearance for India during their tour of South Africa in 2023. Gaikwad most recently shone for India A with scores of 117, 68 and 25 not out as India A secured a 2-1 series win against South Africa A.

Meanwhile, senior stalwarts Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli continue to bolster the top order, with Yashasvi Jaiswal being a prime candidate to open the batting alongside India’s former skipper.

Rishabh Pant Finds Place Squad, Axar Patel Misses Out

Attacking wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant has also been named in the side, as he remains in contention to play his first ODI for India since the Tour of Sri Lanka in 2024, where India lost the ODI series 2-0. Pant is one of three wicket-keeper batters in the squad alongside stand-in skipper KL Rahul and Dhruv Jurel.

However, Axar Patel misses out as Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar and Nitish Kumar Reddy make up for the all-rounders. Reddy most recently featured for India A against South Africa A, before joining the side for the second Test in Guwahati.

Meanwhile, in the bowling department, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj are rested as Harshit Rana, Prasidh Krishna, and Arshdeep Singh make up the pace attack.

Upon completing the three-match ODI series, India will gear up for a five-match T20I series against the Proteas as they prepare for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup next year on home soil.
