Adam Gilchrist IPL all time XI:

RCB vs KKR Dream11 Team Prediction IPL 2025 Match Preview: Fantasy Picks, Squads, Captain, Vice-Captain, Best Playing 11s, Player Injury News From Chinnaswamy, Bengaluru – Match At 7:30 PM IST, May 17

IPL 2025: The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 resumes this Saturday after a 10-day break brought on by border tensions between India and Pakistan. The first game back is set to be a high-stakes encounter between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

RCB Aim to Seal Playoff Spot

RCB, currently second on the table with 16 points from 11 matches, are just one win away from securing their playoff berth. Before the break, the Rajat Patidar-led side was on a four-match winning streak, showcasing balanced performances and growing confidence.

RCB appear better prepared to resume their campaign with several key players returning to action. Skipper Rajat Patidar, who missed recent games due to a finger injury, has returned to the nets. Overseas stars like Phil Salt, Tim David, and Liam Livingstone have also rejoined the squad, strengthening their options heading into this crucial tie.

However, injuries to Devdutt Padikkal and Josh Hazlewood remain a concern for the Bengaluru franchise, with no clear timeline for their return to the playing XI.

Virat Kohli to Draw Spotlight After Retirement

The biggest attraction of the evening will undoubtedly be Virat Kohli, who recently made headlines with his sudden retirement from Test cricket. While fans are expected to show support by donning white attire at the stadium, Kohli is known to rely more on his internal motivation than external fanfare. His presence will be crucial as RCB aim to maintain their winning momentum.

KKR’s Playoff Hopes Hang in Balance

On the other hand, KKR, placed sixth with playoff hopes still alive, will see this match as a must-win. They have won two of their last three matches, but the 10-day break has hampered their momentum. More critically, they face challenges in their batting consistency.

Only Ajinkya Rahane and young Angkrish Raghuvanshi have shown signs of form in the top order, while the rest of the lineup continues to struggle. The absence of Moeen Ali, sidelined due to illness, further complicates KKR’s batting plans.

Their bowling unit, however, has shown discipline and resilience, keeping them in matches even when their batting faltered.

‘Don’t Rush Bumrah Into Captaincy,’: Ravi Shastri Urges Selectors To Groom Young Leaders & Avoid Burdening Bumrah

‘Don’t Rush Bumrah Into Captaincy,’: Ravi Shastri Urges Selectors To Groom Young Leaders & Avoid Burdening Bumrah

Former Indian head coach Ravi Shastri shared his views on India’s current Test captaincy dilemma following the retirement of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Speaking on The ICC Review with host Sanjana Ganesan, Shastri suggested that India should focus on grooming younger players for the leadership role rather than placing the burden on their star pacer, Jasprit Bumrah.

Shastri acknowledged Bumrah as the natural choice after the Australia series but expressed concerns about making him captain due to the risk of losing him as a key bowler. Bumrah has led India in three matches, including a standout 295-run win over Australia in Perth, but also lost two away games against England and Australia. Considering Bumrah’s recent back injury, which sidelined him for nearly three months and caused him to miss the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, Shastri emphasized that Bumrah should focus on his recovery and bowling workload before taking on captaincy pressures.

Instead, Shastri recommended nurturing younger talents like Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant for the captaincy. Both are in their mid-20s with long careers ahead and already possess leadership experience as IPL franchise captains, Pant with Lucknow Super Giants and Gill with Gujarat Titans. According to Shastri, their age, experience, and temperament make them ideal candidates to be groomed for the role.

Shastri praised Gill’s composed and calm nature, highlighting his qualities as the current No. 1-ranked batter in the ICC ODI Player Rankings. He also dismissed concerns about Gill’s overseas form, pointing out that many players struggle abroad initially and urging patience as Gill works towards a breakthrough on foreign tours. Despite a modest average of 27.53 in 15 away Tests, Gill has shown promise, including a crucial 91 at the Gabba, which helped India secure the series win.

Gill has also served as India’s ODI vice-captain and even captained the team in a T20I series against Zimbabwe, where he scored 170 runs at a strike rate of 125.92, including a top score of 66. Shastri expressed confidence in Gill’s potential to flourish in upcoming tours and make up for his earlier overseas struggles, emphasizing that the youngster has a decade of cricket ahead to prove himself.

‘Momentum Shift Possible After Break,’ Sunil Gavaskar On how IPL 2025 Suspension Could Help DC, MI, PBKS

‘Momentum Shift Possible After Break,’ Sunil Gavaskar On how IPL 2025 Suspension Could Help DC, MI, PBKS

Former India cricketer Sunil Gavaskar believes that the suspension of the Indian Premier League (IPL) might benefit teams like Delhi Capitals (DC), Mumbai Indians (MI), and Punjab Kings (PBKS), giving them a chance to reflect on their performances and address their shortcomings. Speaking on the Star Sports Press Room ahead of the IPL 2025 restart—with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) set to face reigning champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Bengaluru, Gavaskar noted that the enforced break, caused by cross-border tensions between India and Pakistan on March 9, could impact team momentum.

Gavaskar explained that just like a batter can lose rhythm when stuck at the non-striker’s end without facing many balls, the break in the tournament might disrupt the flow of teams that were doing well. On the flip side, struggling sides could use this time to regroup and improve. “This pause could work in favor of teams like DC, MI, and PBKS. They now have a window to reassess and look for solutions. The coming 8-10 days are going to be very intriguing. The league initially feels like a marathon with its 14 games, but now it’s more of a sprint, with just 2-3 matches left to push into the top four or ideally, the top two,” he said.

DC, who are currently fifth, began the season with five straight wins but have since lost four out of their last five games. MI had a strong start, losing only once in their first five matches before stringing together six consecutive victories only to be stopped by Gujarat Titans. PBKS, meanwhile, have had an inconsistent run with a loss and a no-result in their last five outings.

Meanwhile, former Indian batter and JioStar expert Suresh Raina expressed confidence in RCB finally breaking their title drought, stating the team looks “on a different level” this year. “They’ve defended totals like 150 and 136 at the Chinnaswamy, which is no easy feat. Their bowling unit has risen to the occasion, and with a new captain, they’ve even defeated Chennai Super Kings twice, once away and once at home. The energy in the dressing room is upbeat. These are the kind of signs you look for in a potential champion team. While MI, GT, and PBKS are also performing well, this might just be the year Virat finally lifts the trophy after 18 long years,” Raina said.
