Apple to sell ad space for TV+ next year during sports league : Report

Tech giant is reportedly discussing with media agency and network executives about the possibility of selling advertising space on its TV+ streaming service, maybe as early as next year.

The tech giant’s advertising chief Todd Teresi has led meetings with holding company executives to sell video advertising space, citing DigiDay, MacRumors reported.

Citing an anonymous source, the report claims has not asked one agency’s network to put aside client dollars in the fourth quarter, suggesting the ad time could be available in early 2023.

As per the report, Apple is aiming to triple its ad revenue from $4 billion per year to double-digit figures by expanding its advertising to more apps and services, and Apple executives see TV+ as having untapped potential.

Currently, the company’s advertising spots are spread over display ads in its News and Stocks apps, as well as for apps in the App Store, across iPhone, iPad and Mac.

Apple also already generates revenue on Apple TV+ with commercials during MLB Friday Night Baseball streams, although those spots are sold by MLB, the report said.

In 2023, it will be the exclusive home of Major League Soccer for the next 10 years, with ad space and sponsorship deals shared by both Apple and MLS.

In May, it was reported that Apple’s senior vice president of services Eddy Cue had restructured services management to focus more on streaming and advertising.

Only OTT communication players to be regulated under new telecom bill: Rpt

Only OTT communication players to be regulated under new telecom bill: Rpt

Under the proposed telecom bill, the (DoT) may only regulate over-the-top (OTT) communication players like WhatsApp, Google Meet, and . It may not regulate the platforms that offer content like and Amazon Prime or that offer e-commerce services, a report by Economic Times (ET) said.

The report further quoted officials as saying that the regulation will focus on the security perspective and not on revenue-raising measures like licence fees. The aim is not to hurt the growth of these platforms.

The central government has put up the telecom bill for public consultation. Several experts had expressed confusion in understanding the meaning of “OTT communication services”. Several other issues will be addressed soon, officials said.

There were several concerns that non-communication OTT players such as food aggregators and streaming services might be subject to licensing and regulation by the telecom department.

Any two-way communication between an app and its users will be considered as telecom services and may be regulated, ET report said. Customer support operations for an app are a case in point.

If the OTT communication services are brought under the ambit of telecom services, companies will be required to do the know-your-customer (KYC) verification of their users. This is a regular process for telecom operators like Jio, Airtel and Vi.

“Distinction between a voice and data call has disappeared. needs to be done for all the platforms and the services have to come under the same law,” Ashwini Vaishnaw, union minister for electronics and information technology said in September.

Public beta versions of the releases generally arrive a short while after their developer counterparts, available through the Apple Beta Software Program website.

The fifth beta of watchOS 9.1 arrives a week after the fourth, separately from the rest of the beta releases. Apple already released the latest betas for iOS 16.1, iPadOS 16.1, tvOS 16.1, and macOS Ventura on October 11.

The fourth watchOS 9.1 build number is 20S5072a, in place of 20S5063c.

The report does not indicate any new user-facing features. The update addresses bug fixes and other improvements.

As per the report, Apple strongly advises users not to install beta operating systems, or beta software in general, on “mission-critical” or primary devices, as there is the chance of issues that could result in data loss.

Testers should instead use secondary or non-essential hardware and make sure they have sufficient backups of their important data at all times.

Former President Donald Trump’s social media app Truth Social is now available for download on the Play Store, as per The Verge.

The outlet has shared that Truth Social, which was banned by over “insufficient” content moderation policies, offers a Twitter-like social experience and markets itself as a platform that “encourages an open, free, and honest global conversation.”

Before attempting to launch on the Play Store, Trump’s social media app first launched on the Apple App Store in February.
