Former President Donald Trump’s social media app Truth Social is now available for download on the Google Play Store, as per The Verge.

The outlet has shared that Truth Social, which was banned by Google over “insufficient” content moderation policies, offers a Twitter-like social experience and markets itself as a platform that “encourages an open, free, and honest global conversation.”

Before attempting to launch on the Google Play Store, Trump’s social media app first launched on the Apple App Store in February.

According to The Verge, in a statement, Google said that apps on the Google Play Store are permitted as long as they “comply with our developer guidelines. This includes the requirement to effectively moderate user-generated content and remove objectionable posts such as those that incite violence.”

The company added that Truth Social has agreed to enforce the moderation measures on user-generated content that Google requires.

Previously, after issuing a ban following the Capitol riots, Google had also reinstated Parler, a similarly focused app.

Apart from policy violations that initially prevented its app launch on Android, the Trump Media and Technology Group (TMTG) owned Truth Social has also been facing financial issues related to its repeatedly delayed SPAC, as per The Verge.

The outlet reported that Digital World Acquisition Corp, the shell company set to merge with TMTG and take it public, delayed the process and has now scheduled its shareholder vote on November 3.

Crypto hackers set for record year after looting over $3 billion: Report

Cryptocurrencies may have crashed this year but they remain a digital cash-machine for one potent constituency: hackers.

At least $718 million has been stolen so far in October alone, taking the gross tally for the year past $3 billion and putting 2022 on course to be a record for the total value hacked, according to blockchain specialist Chainalysis Inc.

Most of the targets are so-called decentralized finance — or DeFi — protocols, which deploy software-based algorithms to enable crypto investors to trade, borrow and lend on digital ledgers without using a central intermediary.

Hackers have become adept at exploiting weaknesses in the security, coding and structure of DeFi marketplaces. That’s putting the onus on crypto players to find solutions given that DeFi is touted as important for crypto adoption.

“October is now the biggest month” for hacking activity in 2022, Chainalysis said Thursday on Twitter, adding that bridges between blockchains are a big vulnerability too.

Two major exploits have roiled the crypto sector in recent days. One was a heist whereby a hacker spirited away about $100 million from DeFi service Mango by manipulating the price of its token. The perpetrator wiped out depositors on the platform in the process.

Last week, 2 million Binance Coins — equivalent to nearly $570 million — were effectively minted and taken by a hacker. About $100 million wasn’t recovered, while the rest was frozen, according to a Binance statement.

DeFi platforms have become a frequent target of state-sponsored hacking. Earlier this year, Chainalysis estimated that North Korea-affiliated groups have stolen approximately $1 billion of crypto from DeFi protocols.

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 1 unveiled as Meta Quest Pro’s chipset

American multinational technology conglomerate Meta’s Quest Pro VR/MR headset has now become official, and it’s powered by the brand-new Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 1 chipset.

According to GSM Arena, Qualcomm has offered more details about the new processor. The Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 1 comes with a new image processing pipeline that achieves less than 10ms latency, unlocking full-colour video pass-through for mixed reality (MR).

It also supports 8K 60fps 360-degree video, ‘concurrent perception’ technologies, including head, hand, and controller tracking, 3D reconstruction, automatic room mapping, and high pixel density.

The chip features 30 per cent improved thermal performance and 50 per cent higher sustained power compared to the previous generation.

Interestingly, the Meta Quest Touch Pro controllers are powered by the Snapdragon 662 platform, which allows them to track through multiple embedded positional cameras and offers ultra-low latency to the headset.

Qualcomm says multiple OEMs have committed to launching devices powered by the XR2+ by the end of the year. So far, Snapdragon XR chips power over 60 XR (eXtended Reality) devices around the globe, as per GSM Arena.

Meanwhile, Meta Quest Pro is a new high-end and advanced virtual reality (VR) headset, announced by Meta Chief Executive Officer Mark Zuckerberg during the company’s annual Connect conference on Tuesday. There, he also announced the company’s partnership with Microsoft and Accenture.

The company said Meta Quest Pro was the first entry in Meta’s new high-end line of devices with innovative features, such as high-res sensors, crisp LCD displays, a new design, eye tracking and natural facial expressions, to help your avatar reflect you more naturally in VR.

With pre-orders announced, Meta Quest Pro will be available on October 25. This includes the headset, Meta Quest Touch Pro controllers, stylus tips, partial light blockers, and a charging dock.

Surface Laptop 5

A thin-and-lightweight category laptop, the Microsoft Laptop 5 is powered by 12th Gen Intel Core processors based on the Intel Evo platform. Like the Surface Laptop 5, the Surface 9 Pro’s screen supports Dolby Vision IQ and 10-point multi-touch. It comes in two variants, one powered by 12th Gen Intel Core processors and another by Microsoft SQ 3 5G processor co-created in partnership with Qualcomm. The Intel processor powered variant comes with 8GB, 16GB, and 32GB RAM options, and up to 1TB storage. Microsoft says the Surface Studio 2+ has double the graphics performance than the Surface Studio 2. It supports a variety of essential ports, including USB-C with Thunderbolt 4. Besides, the all-in-one supports Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. It boots Windows 11 operating system. It comes with 32GB RAM and 1TB SSD.

Microsoft Designer

Microsoft Designer is a new graphic design app in Microsoft 365. Like other apps used for designing, the Designer app helps people create content such as social media posts, invitations, and more. It uses artificial intelligence to help users automatically get a variety of unique images and designs based on their idea or content.

Apple Integrations in Windows 11

Microsoft announced new Apple integrations in Windows 11. Samsung likely to offer 5,000 mAh battery in upcoming Galaxy S23 Ultra

South Korean tech giant Samsung may launch its next-generation flagship smartphone — Galaxy S23 Ultra — with a 5,000mAh battery.

A tipster shared a real-life image of the upcoming S23 Ultra’s battery, reports GSMArena.

The device is rumoured to have a new ‘ISOCELL 200MP’ sensor for its main camera.

The smartphone might have the same 10MP periscope as its predecessors.

It is expected to come with a 6.8 inch AMOLED display and a faster fingerprint scanner, the report said.

Earlier, the device was reported to be offering 25W fast charging support.

It is expected that the S23 Ultra will receive some minor improvements over the S22 Ultra.

The screen will be curved, and the 40MP front camera will have a hole-punch cutout in the top centre. A new 200MP main camera could be on the back. The device might house the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset.

Another report mentioned that the South Korean tech giant is planning to ship three million Galaxy S23 FE units next year. By comparison, Samsung is tipped to ship 8.5 million Galaxy S23 units, 6.5 million S23 Plus models, and 13 million Galaxy S23 Ultra units.
