Apple Inc rolls out new beta firmware update for its AirPods lineup

A new beta firmware for the AirPods 2, AirPods 3, AirPods Pro, AirPods Pro 2, and AirPods Max has been rolled out by American tech giant Apple.

According to GSM Arena, the new update has version number 5B5040c, but it’s unclear what’s new with this update since the company hasn’t provided any details about it.

Users can download the new beta firmware from Apple’s Developer Center and install it on their AirPods by pairing them with an iPhone and connecting it to a Mac with a Lightning Cable.

Then launch Xcode 14 beta on the Mac, head to the Settings > Developer menu, and select the ‘Pre-Release Beta Firmware’ toggle under the AirPods Testing section.

The OTA will be delivered within 24 hours after the pre-release testing option is enabled, but remember that your iPhone should be running the latest iOS 16 beta, and the Mac should have the latest macOS Ventura beta.

It’s also worth mentioning that this update is meant for developers and may contain bugs that could hamper the user experience.

That being said, Apple recently released the first firmware update for the AirPods Pro 2 for those who aren’t enrolled in the beta program.

Apple to declare iPhone 5c ‘obsolete’ by next month, says report

Tech giant Apple is likely planning to mark the iPhone 5c as an obsolete product next month, media reports said.

According to a memo obtained by MacRumors, Apple marked the iPhone 5c as a vintage product in October 2020, which meant the company and its service providers could only provide certain repairs for the product, subject to part availability.

On November 1, Apple will mark the iPhone 5c as an obsolete product, ending all repairs and services, the report said.

Apple also said in the memo it would mark the third-generation iPad mini with Wi-Fi and TD-LTE as obsolete on the same day, it added.

As per the report, iPhone 5c was an iconic iPhone released alongside the iPhone 5s in September 2013.

The iPhone 5c was the first to be offered in a series of bright and vibrant colors, including blue, green, pink, yellow, and white, in an “unapologetically plastic” design.

It also marked the first time Apple had released a lower-end iPhone model aimed at budget-conscious customers, with pricing for the 16GB model starting at $99 with a two-year contract in the US.

Zuckerberg sets for ‘Meta Connect’ amid quality issues with VR project

Zuckerberg sets for ‘Meta Connect’ amid quality issues with VR project

Meta CEO is set to announce the company’s progress towards building the $10 billion metaverse, as internal reports claim there are still several quality issues and those building the virtual reality (VR) social network at the company are barely using it.

The company will organised ‘Meta Connect’ virtual conference on October 11 for developers, creators, tech enthusiasts and others.

Zuckerberg will share share updates on the VR developer ecosystem, the progress building toward the metaverse, and ‘Project Cambria’, a new high-end VR headset with mixed reality.

“If you have a Meta Quest 2 headset, you can register to attend in VR in Meta Horizon Worlds,” said the company.

The flagship metaverse event comes as Vishal Shah, Meta’s VP of Metaverse, apparently told the employees that the metaverse team would remain in a “quality lockdown” for the rest of the year to “ensure that we fix our quality gaps and performance issues before we open up Horizon to more users”.

“Simply put, for an experience to become delightful and retentive, it must first be usable and well crafted,” he told them in an internal memo.

In August, Zuckerberg was forced to post new screenshots on and Instagram, showing off a more life-like version of himself, after he faced memes on his poorly-designed metaverse avatar.

In the same month, Vivek Sharma, the Indian-origin VP of Meta’s Horizon social media virtual reality (VR) platform, departed, at a time when Zuckerberg doubles down on his $10 billion metaverse dream.

A Meta spokesperson said the company is “confident that the metaverse is the future of computing and that it should be built around people”.
