Businesses can now place ads in Explore home, the grid people see when they first arrive on the Explore tab.

“We are also beginning to test ads in profile feed, which is the feed experience that people can scroll through after visiting another account’s profile and tapping on a post,” the company said in the blogpost.

“As a part of this test, we will experiment with a monetisation opportunity that will allow eligible creators to earn extra income from ads displayed in their profile feeds, beginning with select US creators,” it added.

When a person engages with an ad, the company will deliver ads underneath that it thinks may be of interest, powered by machine learning.

The platform said it found that adding multi-advertiser contextual ads to existing feed ads campaigns outperformed running campaigns for the Purchase outcome compared to those that did not include multi-advertiser ads.

To make it easier for businesses to create Reels ads, the platform said it is rolling out free, high-quality songs from our Meta Sound Collection that can be added to Carousel Ads on Reels.

Businesses can select a song from our library or allow the app to automatically choose the best music for an ad based on its content.

“At Meta, we are focused on building products for businesses that meet people where they are. We are investing in a discovery ecosystem that generates a connection with customers, demand for products and interest in brands,” the company said.

It is also launching a test of post-loop ads — 4 to 10 – second skippable and standalone video ads that play after a reel has ended — to help businesses better connect with customers through Reels on Facebook.

“When the ad finishes playing, the original reel resumes and loops again. We are also testing image carousel ads for Reels starting today. These horizontally-scrollable ads can include anywhere from 2 to 10 image ads and will be shown at the bottom of Facebook Reels content,” the platform said.

Penalty to be levied on tech giants breaking digital market rules

Penalty to be levied on tech giants breaking digital market rules

If the preliminary discussions in government lead to a planned new law, giants may risk penalty for violating the proposed behavioural norms, reported Livemint. These norms are intended to ensure that digital stay competitive and established corporations do not abuse their position.

According to a person familiar with government deliberations on the matter, two parliamentary standing committees have examined the need for such “dos and don’ts” for businesses in the digital economy, and discussions for a Digital Act, which would prescribe the behavioural norms, are ongoing.

The source, who asked to remain anonymous, claimed that these standards, which forbid actions like “self-preferencing” by e-commerce platforms (promotion of their private labels) and using business user data in the e-commerce platform to compete in the market, are likely to carry a penalty for violation. The penalty is likely to be based on how much money the defaulting business made during the years in which they were at fault.

Currently, (CCI) has the authority to fine a company found guilty of anti-competitive agreements or abuse of dominance up to 10 per cent of its annual sales. According to the source, discussions on the matter have taken place between the (CCI), the ministries of corporate affairs, and electronics, and information technology. The general structure of the proposed law, however, is yet to be decided.

The proposed “dos and don’ts” represent a significant change in the country’s approach to competition regulation because they would give the regulator more control over market oversight and ex-ante regulation of Big Tech rather than investigations based on anti-competitive behaviour that has already occurred.

It is also anticipated that the proposed code of conduct will outline the standards that enterprises must meet in terms of ethical conduct. It is anticipated that this will also cover system interoperability.

The guidelines are not likely to apply universally in segments like search engines, social media platforms, and e-commerce and to be identifies based on their market reach. These are expected to cover only large businesses. These norms which will be called “digital market gatekeepers”.

Philips SpeedPro Aqua review: Good cordless vacuum cleaner for small spaces

Philips SpeedPro Aqua review: Good cordless vacuum cleaner for small spaces

The new age vacuum cleaners are good at cleaning surfaces from visible and invisible impurities such as dust, dirt, and pet hairs. The addition of mop function makes them even better. Case in point, the recently launched SpeedPro Aqua. Priced at Rs 35,999, the SpeedPro Aqua is an expensive vacuum cleaner competing with the likes of Dyson (V10 Absolute Pro review) in the premium category. However, it is one of the few cordless vacuum cleaners available in India with support for mop function.

Starting with design, the SpeedPro Aqua is heavy but not unwieldy. It has a generous space around the handle for easy and comfortable use. This is important because the vacuum cleaner has an integrated design. It can be used without attachments for everyday cleaning on surfaces such as table top, sofa, car seats, etc. For hard to reach areas, there is a petite tube attachment with a brush tool integrated. Likewise, the vacuum head has built-in LED lights. It brings to focus dust, dirt, and other impurities otherwise hidden in dim-lit or no light areas and makes cleaning jobs easy. The integrated design extends to vacuum and mop accessories. Though separate, the mop accessory is supplementary and fits in front of the vacuum head. The integrated design of the Philips SpeedPro Aqua allows you to spend more time doing the cleaning job and less on fitting the attachments.

Design details aside, the Philips SpeedPro Aqua is an easy to use cordless vacuum cleaner best suited for small spaces. Reason being, it has a limited battery capacity good for about twenty minutes of cleaning at full power. Besides, the vacuum cleaner takes about five hours to fully charge through the supplied charger. Another reason is the rather small garbage bin. If need be, you can use the Philips SpeedPro Aqua to vacuum clean and mop large areas. However, you would be running back and forth between cleaning and emptying the garbage bin.

Coming to the performance, the Philips SpeedPro Aqua has two speed settings available and its suction power in both is decent. Speed level one is good for regular everyday cleaning, but move to speed level two for deep cleaning and vacuum cleaning with mop accessory attached. The mop accessory fits right behind the vacuum head. Therefore, any leftover by the vacuum head is cleaned by the mop. At level one, the vacuum leaves some impurities behind. It makes the mop’s micro-fiber get dirty quickly. One way to make it work without fuss is by vacuum cleaning the surface first and then going for vacuum + mop cleaning.

Verdict

The Philips SpeedPro Aqua is a simple but functional cordless vacuum cleaner good for small spaces. It does not come with many cleaning heads but integrated design, which makes it easy and comfortable to use. Besides, the addition of mop function gives it an advantage over peers because most other cordless vacuum cleaners make do with vacuum function alone.
