Dynamic Island feature may arrive on all iPhone 15 models: Report

Dynamic Island feature may arrive on all iPhone 15 models: Report

Tech giant will reportedly expand its Dynamic Island feature to all the 15 models, most likely to be released next year.

Dynamic Island is a pill-shaped area surrounding the Face ID sensors and front camera on the 14 Pro and 14 Pro max.

“Dynamic Island expected on standard models on the 15. Still not expecting 120Hz/LTPO on standard models as supply chain can’t support it,” according to display industry analyst Ross Young.

The feature can display system alerts for things like incoming phone calls and the Face ID authentication prompt, and it will also work with Live Activities in third-party apps when iOS 16.1 is released later this year, reports MacRumors.

A recent report said that some app developers had created games around the new design on the home screen.

App developer Kriss Smolka has created a Pong-style game called ‘Hit the Island’. It challenges the user to bounce a ball between the paddle and the Dynamic Island to earn points.

Meanwhile, Christian Selig, the developer of the Apollo app for Reddit, has added the fun option to keep a pixelated pet on the Dynamic Island when using the app.

Samsung Galaxy Watch5 series review: Best buy in Android wearables category

Samsung Galaxy Watch5 series review: Best buy in Android wearables category

When launched the Galaxy Watch 4 last year, it was a significant upgrade from its previous iteration, given the transition to Google’s Wear OS. Until its third version, was intent on pushing the native Tizen OS, which came with its own set of problems as regards app availability and compatibility. The Watch 5, from that perspective, is an incremental change from Watch 4 but moves the Korean smartphone maker closer to competing with the best. Within the Android category, it may be one of the best wearables.

Design

The design of Samsung’s watches has remained standard since inception, and the new iteration keeps to the tried and tested design. There are two buttons on the right and a bezel-less design. The strap has the same plasticky feel—durability is higher—with a slight gap on each side between the watch and the strap—the strap buckles underneath itself, eliminating the need for separate loops. The Watch 5 Pro, however, has a design refresh. The first pro watch has a 45mm bezel, compared to 40mm and 44mm for the regular version and comes with a raised metallic rim around the display. While the raised rim is supposed to protect the screen, it obstructs touch controls and makes it difficult to operate. The titanium construction and the better strap quality with a bracelet mechanism gave it a more premium look than the standard edition. Then straps are not easily replaceable. The design is clunky—thicker than most smartwatches.

Performance and battery life

The move away from Tizen OS should have made the smartwatches less buggy, but problems persist with the series. The always-on feature does not always work. It is also difficult to switch off from the swipe-down interface. The touch screen struggles underwater, and the user interface is sometimes not user-friendly.

There are a lot of clicks, taps and swipes one has to make to find one’s way to switch apps. The app store is still limited, which accentuates troubles. The design elements were also limited. The app interface was designed well, and the tracking was to the point. But, adding a new activity was a problem, which should have been easier. The maps app worked well, and there were hardly any complaints about battery life. With the GPS on, the device could easily go over 30 hours; without GPS, it can give you over two days of battery life.

Another problem is the lag in swipe-down gesture to access quick settings, which works beautifully on Android phones but does not do so on the watch. would do better to find another user experience for panel representation, which is more user-friendly.

The Watch 5 Pro, on the other hand, had a longer battery life and supported fast charging. The differentiating feature was the route workout mode, which helps in navigation and has a track-back feature to find your way back. But, syncing the route list was cumbersome and required serious effort.

Screen

One arena where Samsung has been able to outdo the competition is the screen, and both iterations of the Watch 5 series do not disappoint in that regard. The screen was bright, and the colour displayed were accurate. There is auto-brightness feature to adjust the brightness based on ambient light conditions, but it kicked in late at times during the testing. Nevertheless, the screen was bright enough for easy outdoor use.

Price

Although the Watch 5 and Watch 5 Pro are among the best Android watches, there is a long way to go to compete with the rest. If you are looking for a watch to support your Android universe, Samsung does offer the perfect fit. Moreover, the functionality is even better if you are a Samsung user. However, there is a cost to the ecosystem. The Watch5 starts at Rs 27,999 for the 40 mm model, and the Watch 5 Pro begins at Rs 44,999.

iPhone 14: A natural upgrade with best battery life, super camera

iPhone 14: A natural upgrade with best battery life, super camera

As Apple fans in India make a beeline to grab new series of devices, the iPhone 14 has received a good response from those who wish to enter the iOS ecosystem as well as from those who are enjoying the 13 and 12 iPhone series.

The reasons are simple: Powerful main camera with a huge leap in low-light performance, advanced connectivity capabilities with 5G and eSIM, A15 Bionic that ensures better battery life, Crash Detection and industry-leading durability features in iPhone 14.

Leading industry experts have also stressed that iPhone 14 and 14 Pro are going to receive super response in India.

Is the iPhone 14 worthy of becoming your next companion at the office, home and on the go? Let us find out.

Available in the popular 6.1-inch size, iPhone 14 features a durable and sleek, aerospace-grade aluminium design in five beautiful finishes — midnight, blue, starlight, purple and (PRODUCT)RED.

The device comes with an updated internal design for better thermal performance, gorgeous Super Retina XDR display with OLED technology that supports 1,200 nits of peak HDR brightness and Dolby Vision.

While streaming your favourite TV shows or enjoying high-density smartphone gaming, iPhone 14 stays with you for a longer period of time sans any lag, with a long-standing battery life.

A15 Bionic with 5-core GPU enables even smoother graphics for video apps and high-performance gaming, while protecting privacy and security with the Secure Enclave.

On the camera front, iPhone 14 introduces a new standard for photo and video capture with a new 12MP Main camera that features a larger sensor and larger pixels, a new front TrueDepth camera, the Ultra Wide camera to capture more of a scene, and ‘Photonic Engine’ for a giant leap in low-light performance.

Through a deep integration of hardware and software, ‘Photonic Engine’ improves mid- to low-light performance for photos across all cameras: up to 2x on the Ultra Wide camera, 2x on the TrueDepth camera, and an impressive 2.5x on the new Main camera, according to Apple.

Seeing is believing and as you click photos in low lights, you will be left amazed at the clarity.

The main sensor enables photo and video improvements in all lighting scenarios for better detail and motion freezing, less noise, faster exposure times, and sensor-shift optical image stabilisation.

A new Action mode for incredibly smooth-looking video that adjusts to significant shakes, motion, and vibrations, even when video is being captured in the middle of the action.

iPhone 14 offers Cinematic mode, available in 4K at 30 fps and 4K at 24 fps and end-to-end Dolby Vision HDR.

The new Action mode yields incredibly smooth-looking video that adjusts to significant shakes, motion, and vibrations, even when video is being captured in the middle of the action.

Another most-talked about new feature is Crash Detection in iPhone 14 that is very useful on some of the dangerous Indian roads.

With a new dual-core accelerometer capable of detecting G-force measurements of up to 256Gs and a new high dynamic range gyroscope, Crash Detection on iPhone can now detect a severe car crash and automatically dial emergency services when a user is unconscious or unable to reach their iPhone.

These capabilities build on existing components, like the barometer, which can now detect cabin pressure changes, the GPS for additional input for speed changes, and the microphone, which can recognise loud noises typified by severe car crashes.

When combined with Apple Watch, Crash Detection seamlessly leverages the unique strength of both devices to get users help efficiently said Apple.

When a severe crash is detected, the emergency services call interface will appear on Apple Watch, as it is most likely to be in closer proximity to the user, while the call is placed through iPhone if it is in range for the best possible connection.

You must have read about iOS 16 a lot and iPhone 14 also offers a reimagined Lock Screen along with new communication, sharing, and intelligence features that will change the way you experienced iPhone earlier.

iPhone 14 is now available in India from Rs 79,900 (128GB) at Apple Store Online and Apple Authorised Resellers.
