Samsung to use Qualcomm chip throughout Galaxy S25 line, Exynos on foldable

Samsung to use Qualcomm chip throughout Galaxy S25 line, Exynos on foldable

Samsung is reportedly planning to power its entire Galaxy S25 series with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chip, likely quitting the dual-chip strategy for its flagship smartphone series.

Previously, the South Korean smartphone manufacturer has used Qualcomm chips along with its own Exynos chipsets to power Galaxy devices. Flagship devices in the United States packed the Snapdragon processor whereas Exynos was used for devices in other markets including India.

Samsung shifted away from dual processors in 2023 and utilised Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for all the devices of Galaxy S23 series across the globe. With the Galaxy S24 series, Samsung went back to the dual chip strategy.

Now according to South Korean website Hankyung Korea Market, Samsung will use Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chips for all three models of Galaxy S25 series mainly due to the high performance chipset required for artificial intelligence functions.

Previous reports suggested that Samsung was going to launch a dedicated chip for Galaxy flagships but that is reportedly not happening. It was also rumoured that upcoming devices will be powered by a 3nm Exynos chip. Reports also suggested that Samsung might be thinking about using MediaTek chips.

Meanwhile, Samsung might use Exynos 2500 in 2025 to power the next Galaxy Z-series foldable devices. It should be noted that Galaxy foldables up till now have been powered by Qualcomm chips.

Samsung was also reportedly considering a dual chip strategy for its flagship tablet series, offering Qualcomm Snapdragon processors in some regions and MediaTek chips in others.

Reports suggested that the Galaxy S25 and Galaxy S25 Plus, set to be released next year, might use MediaTek processors in some markets, while the Ultra model was expected to be equipped with Qualcomm’s next-generation flagship chip. But now it appears that Samsung will be using Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chips for all Galaxy S25 devices across the globe.

Apple might discontinue these iPhones, iPads, Watch after September 9 event

Apple might discontinue these iPhones, iPads, Watch after September 9 event

Apple generally discontinues select existing models after its annual hardware launch event, especially the ones that get updated with new versions. With Apple’s “Its Glowtime” launch event just around the corner, it is likely that the smartphone maker will stop making some products from the existing line-up such as select iPhone models, AirPods, Apple Watches and more.

Here is a list of devices that could get discontinued after the iPhone 16 series launch event on September 9.

iPhones

Apple has been discontinuing the previous generation flagship iPhone models upon the launch of new iPhone series since 2018. The company is expected to follow the trend this year as well. Last year’s iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max are expected to get discontinued soon to make way for iPhone 16 Pro line models. However, standard iPhone 15 series models are expected to remain available.

In addition to the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, Apple might discontinue the iPhone 14 Plus as well as 2021’s iPhone 13. Standard iPhone 13 is the only model from the 13 series that is still available. However, the base iPhone 14 model is expected to replace it as Apple’s most affordable iPhone.

Apple Watch

Apple is expected to refresh both the standard Apple Watch as well as Apple Watch Ultra line with new models. While the Apple Watch Series 10 is expected to bring significant upgrades such as larger display, slimmer chassis and a new chip, the Apple Watch Ultra 3 is expected to get more powerful with a new processor. Apple might even launch a Watch SE3 model with a plastic body and an older generation chip.

With the company likely updating the entire Apple Watch line, last year’s Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 10 are expected to get discontinued. Apple Watch SE2 might remain if the smartphone maker decides to push the launch of the third generation Apple Watch SE for a later date.

AirPods

Apple is expected to replace both the AirPods second generation and AirPods third generation with two new AirPods 4 models. The standard AirPods 4 will replace the AirPods 3 and will bring some key upgrades such as inclusion of Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) technology. A new entry-level AirPods 4 with a fresh design and updated audio drivers will likely replace AirPods 2 in the line up.

iPads

Apple might launch new iPad models alongside the new iPhone, Apple Watch and AirPods at the September 9 event. Reportedly, Apple is refreshing the iPad Mini and entry-level iPad with the latest Apple Silicon. If true, the company might discontinue the existing iPad Mini sixth generation and iPad 10th generation model.

Recall feature on Copilot+ PCs can not be uninstalled, Microsoft confirms

Recall feature on Copilot+ PCs can not be uninstalled, Microsoft confirms

Microsoft has reportedly confirmed that its artificial intelligence-powered Recall feature for the Copilot Plus PC platform cannot be uninstalled from the device. In a latest update to Windows 11 on Arm, Microsoft had rolled out the ability to uninstall the feature to beta testers, however, in a statement to The Verge, Microsoft said that it was an error.

“We are aware of an issue where Recall is incorrectly listed as an option under the ‘Turn Windows features on or off’ dialog in Control Panel; this will be fixed in an upcoming update,” said Windows senior product manager Brandon LeBlanc in a statement to The Verge.

Last month, Microsoft announced that the Recall feature for Windows on Arm will be launching in October to its Windows Insider users. While the feature is yet to arrive, Microsoft added the option to disable the Recall feature and later to uninstall it to users previewing the Windows 11 24H2 release. However, with Microsoft confirming that the option to uninstall the feature was an error, it seems as if users will only get the option to disable Recall once it rolls-out.

What is Recall?

Recall is one of the highlight features of Microsoft’s Copilot Plus PC platform. Exclusive to Windows on Arm, the feature works like a photographic memory, allowing users to revisit their previous activity on the PC. Recall generates a timeline that contains snapshots from applications, websites, documents, or other areas that the users visited previously. Each snapshot on the timeline depicts the screen’s content at various points in time.

The feature was initially planned to roll out earlier, however, Microsoft had to delay the schedule after privacy concerns were raised.

Microsoft has been reportedly working on improving the Recall feature, including encrypting the database and using Windows Hello for authentication. “Security remains our top priority, and when Recall becomes available for Windows Insiders in October, we will publish a blog with more details,” said the company while announcing its roll-out schedule.
