Samsung Galaxy Watch 7 series to get AI features

Samsung is working on AI-powered health tracking features for its next-generation smartwatches in the Galaxy Watch series. Anticipated to be named the Galaxy Watch 7 series, the wearables are expected to be unveiled at its next Galaxy Unpacked event, which could take place on July 10. Ahead of the event, Samsung has published a blog in which the South Korean electronics maker shared details on the upcoming features. Check the details below.

  • A new feature called “Energy Core” will inform you about your health condition by analysing your health metrics. The feature will utilise data about your sleep, waking time, heart and activity.

  • Wellness tips will offer you motivational ideas and guide you on how you should achieve any specific health goals.

  • Workout routine will allow you to combine all different workouts to build a personalised practice.

Samsung also plans to enhance its sleep tracking capability with AI, which would examine movement, heart rate, respiratory rate during sleep and sleep latency. Moreover, Samsung said it will introduce a customisable heart rate zone feature with five running intensity levels and functional threshold power metrics to help cyclists evaluate metrics in 10 minutes. Further, Samsung said it will introduce “Race” features, which will allow users to track and compare current and past performance on the same routes.

Samsung said the Galaxy AI features will be integrated with Samsung Health app, which will provide “comprehensive health insights, along with motivational encouragement to help you improve your daily wellness”. As for the updates, the app will get a new “Energy Score” section, which will be similar to Fitbit’s Daily Readiness Score.

The above listed features will be available on the forthcoming Galaxy Watch series via One UI 6 for Watch series, which will be available later this year.

Apple has been testing ChatGPT integrated Siri assistant since 2023: Report

Apple has been testing ChatGPT integrated Siri assistant since 2023: Report

Representative Image: Siri on iPhone

A potential deal between Apple and OpenAI for new artificial intelligence powered features on iPhones, iPads and MacBooks have been reported multiple times recently. However, a 9To5Mac report citing The Information stated that Apple has been conducting tests internally using OpenAI’s GPT model for its virtual assistant Siri since last year. It also mentions that discussions between Apple and Microsoft-backed OpenAI have been going on since mid-2023.

According to the report, Apple employees from the company’s machine learning fraction held discussions with OpenAI’s CEO Sam Altman around last year’s Worldwide Developers conference (WWDC) in June. Although not much is known about the discussions that took place, Apple reportedly reached an agreement with Altman for using OpenAI’s Application Programing Interfaces (APIs) for internal testing.

Internally, Apple had integrated Siri using the AI model behind OpenAI’s ChatGPT, creating a new prototype of the virtual assistant capable of handling and processing much more complex queries and understanding the context behind an input more accurately. 9To5Mac reported that there has been evidence of this when it reported that the first beta version of iOS 17.4 contained “a new Siri summarization private framework that makes calls to the OpenAI’s ChatGPT API.”

Apple is likely to make the deal official at the upcoming WWDC 2024, which is scheduled for June 10. Its next-generation operating system for iPhones, iPads and MacBooks are expected to get new AI tools and features, several of which are expected to be powered by OpenAI’s AI models.

While Microsoft, the company that invested 13 billion in OpenAI, would make profits from OpenAI’s deal with Apple, the report states that Microsoft has been concerned about the partnership. OpenAI’s GPT model has also been the one that power’s Microsoft’s Copilot AI features and a deal between Apple and OpenAI will bring the company in direct competition with the Cupertino-based technology giant.

WhatsApp could get a shortcut in chats for AI image generation tool: Report

WhatsApp could get a shortcut in chats for AI image generation tool: Report

WhatsApp is reportedly testing a new shortcut in chats named “Imagine” that would allow users to generate AI images using Meta AI. Although there has been no official announcement on it, WhatsApp update tracker WABetaInfo has reported that the shortcut in chat for image generation appeared in the WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.24.12.4. The feature is still being tested and might be rolled out soon.

According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp will add a shortcut in the chat for users to generate images with a single tap. This would enhance Meta AI’s capability and allow for a more personalised experience on WhatsApp. This feature will also make it faster to generate images in chats on the app.

Reportedly, the shortcut option for the AI image generation tool will be displayed alongside other options available through the attachment icon in the chats. Among the other options, “Imagine” named icon will be visible with a Meta AI ring logo, noted WABetaInfo. On tapping it, you will have the option to create an AI generated image.

Meta is already working on several AI-powered features for its platforms, including WhatsApp and Instagram. For WhatsApp, it is testing options to generate profile pictures and stickers on the app using AI.

Meta AI is Meta’s chat assistant available across its apps in selected regions from 2023. Meta AI can already generate AI-powered images directly or with text prompts on tagging the AI chatbot with @MetaAI in group chats. The image is generated according to the text description on a page called Create AI Profile Picture and the feature was seen on Android app version 2.24.11.17.

The feature will reportedly be available for only those who already have access to MetaAI. MetaAI chatbot is available in selected countries and is being tested for rollout in India as well.

OpenAI makes ChatGPT-4o's advanced tools available to users in free tier

OpenAI makes ChatGPT-4o's advanced tools available to users in free tier

OpenAI made its latest GPT-4o model available to free customers from the day of launch. Alongside, the company announced that it will open up access to more intelligent features and advanced tools to free users. Now, OpenAI has announced that all ChatGPT free users can now use browse, vision, data analysis, file uploads, and GPTs. The new capabilities in the free tier is now available through ChatGPT app for Android, iOS and macOS, as well as on ChatGPT web.

ChatGPT: Memory

Memory for ChatGPT allows the AI chatbot to either remember or forget key instructions and details that the user shares in prompts. While using ChatGPT for conversation or assistance, users can ask the chatbot to remember specific details or provide it with instructions that it needs to follow when performing specific tasks in the future. With the Memory feature enabled, ChatGPT will be able to pick up details itself and improve accordingly over time.

For example, if you ask ChatGPT to summarise texts in limited words and provide bullet points at the end, it will provide a summary in the requested format every time you ask it to do so in the future.

ChatGPT: custom GPTs

OpenAI is now allowing free tier users to access the GPT Store for browsing and using custom bots. The GPT store was launched earlier this year for paid subscribers, allowing users to create their own chatbots, called GPTs, for carrying out specific tasks such as coding, writing and more.

While creating and sharing GPTs is limited to premium subscribers, access to these custom GPT chatbots is now open for all users.

ChatGPT: Vision

Using ChatGPT Vision, users can click a picture and have a conversation about it in real time. Users can ask the chatbot to know what a specific object is or even share a picture of a mathematical problem to get assistance in solving it. The feature got even better with the new GPT-4o model, which can translate texts in images and fetch additional context about what it sees in the picture.

ChatGPT: File uploads

With this feature, ChatGPT free users can upload and work with different types of documents inside a conversation with the AI-powered chatbot. The feature supports uploading PDF files, Word documents, presentations, spreadsheets and more.

For example, the user can upload a spreadsheet and ask ChatGPT to understand the data and offer summaries or visual representations. The user can also ask the AI chatbot to compare and analyse two documents. Similar functions are available for other file types as well.

ChatGPT: Data analysis

Free users can now upload raw data files such as those in CSV and JSON format and ask the chatbot to create an interactive table for it. Additionally, users can ask ChatGPT to create interactive charts in one of the supported formats using text prompts. These data representations also allow users to customise the graphics and personalise them as per their preference.
