One thing though, the company has not stated the name of the smartphone as yet. However, the unnamed smartphone is reportedly the Xiaomi Civi 4 Pro.

According to news reports, Xiaomi may introduce the Civi 4 Pro as the Xiaomi 14 Civi in India. If it turns out to be true, the smartphone will become the third model in its premium Xiaomi 14 series in India – the other two models are the Xiaomi 14 and Xiaomi 14 Ultra. It could also be entirely possible that Xiaomi will debut the Civi series independent of the number series. Nevertheless, the smartphone details are already out in public domain, if it is indeed the Civi 4 Pro, since it has been launched in its home country China.

Samsung Galaxy Ring could cost as much as latest Galaxy Watch: Details here

Samsung Galaxy Ring could cost as much as latest Galaxy Watch: Details here

Samsung is reportedly planning to launch its new category of smart wearable, the Galaxy Ring, at its next Galaxy Unpacked event, which would happen sometime in July. Samsung previewed the Galaxy Ring at the Mobile World Congress in February, where it also revealed some of the key details including colours and size options. Now, there are reports coming in stating the anticipated pricing of the Samsung’s smallest health-and-fitness tracking device.

Consumer technology news platform Android Authority has reported that Samsung Galaxy Ring will be priced around $300-$350 in the US and around Rs 35,000 in India. The report also stated that Samsung could introduce a new pair-tier on its companion app exclusive to Galaxy Ring for AI-powered health insights. The monthly subscription is expected to be under $10 in the US.

In an interview with CNBC earlier this year, Samsung Electronics Vice President, Dr Hon Pak said that the company is “considering” a subscription model for the Samsung Galaxy Health app. However, he said that the app’s capabilities and the insights it offers need to be improved before Samsung introduces a paid-tier service on the platform. During the interview, Pak also discussed how artificial intelligence could play a role in improving Samsung’s health services.

“Imagine that large language model, acting as my digital assistant, while looking at the context of my medical records, my physiological data, my engagement with a mobile device, the wearables during all of that … begins to bring greater insights and personalization opportunities,” Pak said.

Samsung is also reportedly working on its next-generation Galaxy Watch, which will likely launch alongside the Galaxy Ring at the Galaxy Unpacked event. Samsung could utilise this to offer subscription based AI-powered health insights on its companion Health app for wearables.

Samsung Galaxy Ring: What to expect

Samsung has already confirmed that the upcoming Galaxy Ring will be offered in black, gold and silver colours and in nine different sizes. As per media reports, the battery capacity on the smart ring will depend on the size, with the smallest sized ring reportedly featuring a 14.5-mAh and the largest with a 21.5mAh battery.

While Samsung has not confirmed any specifications for the Galaxy Ring, Samsung while showcasing the device at the MWC earlier this year said that the Ring will have the ability to work alongside the Samsung Galaxy Watch. Samsung said that both devices will work intelligently to collect and track different metrics depending on what they are best at. In some cases, both devices might work together for better results.

Not much is known about the sensors on the Galaxy Ring, however, as per media reports, the upcoming fitness tracker by Samsung would feature “blood flow measurement” and electrocardiogram (ECG) functions to track and measure health-and-sleep related information.

OpenAI signs content agreement with WSJ parent News Corp to train AI models

OpenAI signs content agreement with WSJ parent News Corp to train AI models

Sam Altman-led OpenAI has signed a deal that will give it access to content from some of the biggest news publications owned by media conglomerate News Corp , the companies said on Wednesday.

The deal comes weeks after the Microsoft-backed AI giant clinched an agreement to license content from the Financial Times for the development of AI models.

Access to troves of data can help enhance content produced by OpenAI’s ChatGPT, the chatbot that can generate human-like responses to prompts and create summaries of long text.

Such partnerships are also crucial for the training of AI models and can be lucrative for news publishers, which have traditionally been denied a slice of profits internet giants earn for distributing their content.

OpenAI, which kickstarted the AI frenzy when it launched its chatbot in 2022, had also struck a content deal with social media platform Reddit last week.

OpenAI did not disclose the financial details of its latest deal, but the Wall Street Journal, which is owned by News Corp, reported that it could be worth more than $250 million over five years.

The tie-up also includes a guarantee that the content will not become available on ChatGPT immediately after it is published on one of the news websites, the WSJ report said.

The agreement will give OpenAI access to current and archived content from several News Corp publications, including the Wall Street Journal, MarketWatch, the Times and others.

News Corp shares climbed about 4% after the bell.

Google Pay gets three new features including buy now and pay later: Details

Google Pay gets three new features including buy now and pay later: Details

Google Pay has announced three new features to make online payments secure, convenient, and rewarding. The new features span across mobile app and desktop payments checkout pages supported by Google Pay.

To make shopping experience rewarding, Google Pay supported web checkout pages will now show card benefits at checkout, making it easier for the users to choose the card with the best rewards.

For convenience, Google Pay has expanded the buy now, pay later option (BNPL) to more merchant sites and Android apps.

Lastly, for security, Google Pay enables autofill on Chrome and Android to allow users to verify card details with a fingerprint, face scan, or PIN.

Important to note, these new features are limited to the US for now.

Google Pay: Security feature

To make shopping secure on Chrome and Android, Google Pay gets an autofill option that will allow users to automatically input saved card details through fingerprint, screen lock PIN, or face scan authentication methods. Unless anything suspicious is found out, Google Pay said, autofill will complete the form on its own without asking any other details.

Google Pay: Rewards

Many credit cards offer benefits to the customers and it can be overwhelming and time consuming to check all of them while shopping. Google Pay will now show the rewards and savings when checking out. From today, American Express and Capital One cardholders will see the benefits for different cards in the autofill drop-down menu on Chrome desktop. This will enable the user to choose a card that offers more value.

Buy Now Pay Later

Google Pay has expanded the buy now, pay later to other merchant sites and Android apps. To opt-in, users have to either link their existing account or to sign up with a supported financial service provider at the time of purchasing. In the beginning of this year, the mobile payments service had started to prepare to show buy now, pay later options – including Zip and Affirm while checking out.

Google Search to show inline sponsored ads section in AI Overviews: Details

Google Search to show inline sponsored ads section in AI Overviews: Details

Google Search AI Overviews

Google on May 14 announced the integration of AI-generation overviews in Search, after testing it in preview as part of the Search Generative Experience (SGE). Now, the US-based software giant has announced that generative overviews in Search will soon show in-line sponsored ads sections. The announcement followed its marketing session in which it detailed on how advertisers can utilise AI-integrated Search.

For context, AI overviews provides an AI-generated summary on top of the Search results page, offering a quick overview of the topic along with relevant links to websites. Google said that links included in AI overviews get more clicks compared to a “traditional web listing” for a search query. Additionally, the company said during the testing phase of the feature, it found out that users find ads appearing above and below the overview “useful”. Hence, Google will soon start testing shopping ads within AI overviews.

According to Google, ads from existing Search, Performance Max, and Standard Shopping campaigns will have the opportunity to appear within the AI overview in a section that will be labelled as “Sponsored”.

Last month, a report by the Financial time stated that AI Overview costs Google more than its traditional Search results as generative AI consumes a lot more computing resources. Additionally, many online publishers who depend on Google Ads for traffic on their websites were concerned as they expected fewer visitors due to information being presented directly on the search result. Google might find a solution for both of these problems by including paid ads within AI Overviews.

AI Overviews is currently rolling out for users in the US, while it will soon be available for users in other regions. Similarly, Google said that it will initially test ads for AI Overviews in the US and later in other regions.

Truecaller and Microsoft to let users replicate own voice to answer calls

Truecaller and Microsoft to let users replicate own voice to answer calls

Caller ID company Truecaller has announced a partnership with Microsoft to utilise a new personal voice technology from Microsoft Azure AI Speech. With the help of Microsoft Azure AI Speech Personal Voice, users can record digital versions of their own voice within the Truecaller application and use it to answer calls.

Truecaller introduced an AI assistant feature in 2022 that can automatically answer phone calls, screen calls, and take messages. This feature allows customers to see the reason for the call and choose how to respond or record it for later use. Previously, users had to choose from a preset number of voice assistants to represent them.

Now, alongside the existing assistants, users can replicate their own voice, providing callers with a more personalised experience. Truecaller’s Product Director and General Manager, Raphael Mimoun said, “By integrating Microsoft Azure AI Speech’s personal voice capability into Truecaller, we’ve taken a significant step towards delivering a truly personalised and engaging communication experience.”

In a blog post, Microsoft stated that the personal voice feature is available on a limited basis and for specific uses such as voice assistants. At the Microsoft Build conference, a demo video was shared, which is embedded towards the end of this article.

What is Microsoft Azure AI Speech?

Launched in November 2023, the personal voice feature allows users to create and use their own AI voices within apps. It has limited access and includes watermarks. In addition to voice assistants, it can be used for speech translation and creating content.
